Yep. Not to mention there won't be a box cost. Even if EQN sucks, you'll probably atleast get $15 of entertainment just from exploring and getting your nostalgia boners from checking out places like EC Tunnel. And yeah, I have a feeling the easiest mobs won't be that smart - especially since...

Hell, nowadays you often have to level up a bit to realize how bad it sucks. The first 10-20 levels of Conan were pretty awesome. I don't think I made it more than 5 levels after the starter area, though.

I agree the reveal wasn't perfect. Hearing "We can't talk about that yet" or "Trust us it'll be good" for every other question isn't terribly inspiring. Hype doesn't really mean much to me anymore though. It's just used by markets to sell us shitty games, the Age of Conans and Warhammer...

I know I sound like a broken record, but anyone bitching right now will do a 180 if word of mouth is that the game is good. I do think (or maybe it's hope?) that they should release more info. But this is how it usually goes, they'll have some very structured marketing release schedule with...

And no one will remember they they didn't 'follow up' in one year from now. Hell, I don't think anyone will even remember one month from now, after Landmark is released. That's not their problem. They never gave any indication of that. People just let the imaginations run wild.

The game isatleastone year away, at the absolute earliest. Does hype right now really fucking matter that much? Again, if the game is good - whatever happens right now won't matter at all. People are dying for a good MMO to play.

Who honestly gives a fuck? If the game is good, people will play it. That's all the matters.

I think even if EQNext sucks by our standards, it's still going to be wildly successful because of Landmark garneringa lotof users and funneling them into EQNext.

An Art Director? I have to say, Pandaren in WoW are pretty cool because their animations and even facial expressions are so much more...expressive. The models are much higher quality, and it really shines through. It may not be something that immediate stands out, but if it's one aspect...

I kind of like the duality aspect of the gods. The Gods in EverQuest were cool because of nostalgia and being able to kill them and all that, but I think this change helps them sort of make the point that the world isn't black and white - there isn't just good and evil. Like they said in the...

I think you're reading into it a but too much. I think the overall point is that with only 2 weapon sets per class they focus on a good experience all around (gameplay, animations, sounds, etc) then if they had 10 per class.

I think Dark Elves are going to be a sect of Elves that were left behind and got twisted by the Dragons - which perhaps makes them turn to demonic figures?

Trolls may still be evil. We really don't know. They're not apart of the initial Combine alliance. Even a Troll in the original EverQuest could become liked by those who hated them. That's my point. Why not just create that identity through your own actions?

Maybe they want players to create their own identity for their characters through their actions. You can choose to be evil. Or not. Hell, maybe you can even help found Oggok and Grobb through Rallying Calls.

Nothing stops you from doing that, even if you can level all classes on one character.

Have you read the lore? Most all of the races are allied at this point. I like the idea of everyone being neutral, and people deciding which way they go.
  22. Teekey

    EQ Never

Races don't matter, considering you can pay $9.99 in the SoE Store to change whenever you want. And it's so stupid that people classify no alts as 'easy mode'. It's not like the shit is just handed to you. You still have to earn everything. So really, what's the difference between that and...

That's still optional. I would opt to just be a man and do it on my main. We want to talk about how actions should matter, sidestepping difficulty with an alt seems to go against that.
  24. Teekey

    EQ Never

Why's that scary? I know everyone gushes about class identity, but I feel that way about my main character. For all intents and purposes, my main ismein the world. I level alts out of necessity, but I relish the idea of never having to level a separate character, if I don't want to.

That's why they make functionally retarded Orcs for Johnny Casual to kill, while still creating challenging content for the more skilled players. Why does it have to be an all or nothing thing? No one is clamoring for WoW Heroic raids to be tuned to levels so Timmy can do it. Blizzard just makes...

I like the idea of 1 starting city because they can really make an 'unexplored' frontier, where the further you get from the main city, the more dangerous it gets. That kind of loses it's appeal when there's starting zones and cities around every turn.

Basically: Negative consequences are required to make risk meaningful. However, it can be overdone when people would just rather not play your game than feel like they're being punished.

Exploring a pitch black cave with a torch to just to be able to see adds atmosphere. Having to turn the gamma on your monitor to max as soon as you log into the game with little explanation, is just bad game design.

Like I've been saying, I don't think there's much chance of an EverQuest HD ever being made. Hell, I don't think even if EverQuest HD came out, that it would have the same magic the Original did. The best we can hope for is a game that is within the spirit of what the original EverQuest was...

Here's the thing - Games like DotA and LoL are still very accessible for asstastic casual gamers. That's exactly the approach they should have with EverQuest Next, easy to learn - hard to master. People make fun of the 'denial of service' comment they made, but it's absolutely true. Why would...

As has been pretty well established, if you were in a half decent guild, there was little risk at all. But we weren't talking about risk, we were talking about difficulty. Was there really much risk in max level raids, other than like, Plane of Fear? After a certain point, a lot of the risk seemed to evaporate. You sure as fuck still didn't want to die, but there were always Rogues to drag corpses and Clerics to rez.

I don't think anyone is disputing that EverQuest was a huge time sink in just about every regard. That has nothing to do with it's difficulty. And the mechanics for killing a Dragon, or even the Sleeper were VERY simple. I think that's the point. Mechanically, it was not a very difficult...

I never claimed it would fail. But I don't think it would be a success like League of MineQuest will be. You want me to go back and read earlier posts in the thread? I found one where you actually make sense and aren't just frothing at the mouth to call everyone a casual pussy.
  39. Teekey

    EQ Never

That's their strategy. Make statements without any factual backing, then call everyone else a casual pussy. Bleeding edge World of Warcraft raiding is more difficult than EverQuest raiding ever was. To say you can't have hardcore in an MMO with modern features is just a joke.

I don't think anything I listed is what made EQ great, actually. EQ was great because it immersed you into the world, it was challenging - the world felt dangerous, but still very rewarding. Nothing I listed has to be present to recreate that. That's my point. You can still evoke the same...
