Based on some comments, they're fine with there being consequences for bad choices. Thanks for the summary, Dizzam.

No, I mean like - layers and layers of zones. I don't think such an idea comes about without world destruction.

Tiered zones. If you don't think that sounds cool, then just go play Project 1999 to your heart's content.

They've said that they can prevent or restrict damage. This really opens up the idea of sieges, etc. A sword can't destroy a wall, but a catapult could, etc. There's lots of potential for PvP destruction areas, but I don't see them going full on hardcore sandbox. I do hope they allow more...

Agreed. Not only should night be dark, but some mobs should only be nocturnal. They could really go crazy with StoryBricks in this respect.

It's going to be even more common in a free-to-play game where you don't have to buy a box, or subscription. I do hope that grouping is more necessary, too. But I do think there should be content for all players. Perhaps you can solo the Orc Scouts that leave Crushbone. You can duo or trio...

Shrug. I had a second account with a Cleric and Druid for this exact reason. People are greatly overstating the need for class dependence, even back in the original EQ. The only difference between EQNext and EQ1 in that respect is having to pay for a second account. We already know this game...

People will always specialize in specific classes or roles. I hate playing casters in just about every game, that probably won't change in EQN. I like to play Tanks, or at the very least melee classes. If obtaining a class and leveling it up takes as much of an investment as Tad said, then I...

Shrug. I just had 2 accounts in EverQuest, with my Druid and Cleric alts my second account to give me rezes and ports when needed. I think people are really over-stating it's importance, even in the original. Tad has already said, based on the panels, that being the 'best' of any class will...

I don't think anything is permanent. They've said they like the idea of becoming a Shadow Knight and then redeeming yourself and becoming a Paladin. So you can most likely make up for your transgressions against the poor farmers slaughtered by Orcs.

Oh we completely understand. But 'leveling' by reaching certain milestones sounds like a helluva lot more fun than watching an experience bar fill up.
  12. Teekey

I'm sorry, but I think this is exactly what they're going for. In an interview, they had an example of 2 people trying to take down Crushbone. Perhaps it's too hard, so they can play with their class combinations to see what works - and if it doesn't, then they would need to find more people...

Because who is going to enjoy their piece of art being turned into a piece of shit once they decide to log off an go to bed? The destruction will be pretty gimmicky in most cases, I think. However, if it led to the idea of layered zones, then I don't really give a shit - because it's such an...

Corpse runs would be insane with multi-level zones. I would love to see it though. I dunno what else they could do besides gear being damage, which is about the weakest penalty possible.
  15. Teekey

    EQ Never

That was one of the best things? Really? I mean, it's fun for a laugh every now and then...but I don't want entire game systems to be designed to maintain that ability.

That and the fact that levels are increasingly becoming a pretty stupid barrier for the majority of hardcore players. I have like 6 level 90's in World of Warcraft, and leveling up a new one is just an annoyance at this point. I'd wager most people consider max level the 'real game' in most...

This is just my own wild ass guess, but I'm going to assume that each spell requires a weapon. They sorta hinted at this when talking about Warrior weapon types. Anyways, perhaps Teleports require a Staff to be used - so a Sword wielding Spellsword (Warrior + Wizard) wouldn't be able to use...

Damn. I'm not sure how I feel about this. In some ways I appreciate that there's not a 'faction bar' for every faction. But hopefully factions are still very intricate and important, even if you don't see a noticeable 'faction hit' for killing a Knight of Truth. StoryBricks still feels like...

They've said the Holy Trinity is still going to exist. There really hasn't been too many more details, though. Additionally, they've said content is scaled by player numbers. You won't ever be alevel 100 warrior that can just annihilate everything by yourself. You may be able to use...

Simple solution seems to be making specific tanks better at dealing with specific types of damage. Every tank is pretty good overall, but each has their own strengths. So it's optimal to change per encounter, but not really necessary. Other than that, the claases just have to be pretty...

Not confirmed, that's my assumption based on them removing stats from the displayed armor. They want to avoid being pay-to-win, so the easiest way to charge for cosmetic items is to make all displayed armor cosmetic.
  24. Teekey

    EQ Never

It impacts their wallets when they can charge whatever they want at the SoE Store for displayable armor because it doesn't affect gameplay. From what I recall, they said weapons and armor components will have a greater affect on your abilities.

I'm fine with that. Require multiple guilds to team up to kill some bosses. Make those bosses open-world as well. This is how emergent gameplay happens, by creating mechanics that make players interact - whether it be together or against each other.

They already departed from that style of Ogre with Luclin models, and followed it up in EverQuest 2. I wouldn't hold my breath for it's return.

It's a tech demo. People asked about fall damage: "Gravity will be deadly ? every action has a consequence, the same with unsafe travel."

Have you seen the current Round Table questions? Should female dwarves have beards or not? Should the Ratonga be in EverQuest Next? Hopefully it remains questions for things like that, and not for really important aspects.

Yeah, they made it sound like this is what they really wanted - for there to be sort of a legend for each server. "Back in my day, I remember Halas wasn't even a city yet! We had to fight for MONTHS for it to be established" Some people will miss out, but I think it will really create...

It is, but based on some of their interviews about Rally Calls, it didn't seem immediately clear if you could fight on the side to prevent Halas from being founded. They made it sound like Rallying Calls could be a story with only one way to progress: it's eventual founding.
  32. Teekey

    EQ Never

This is a good point. My real question is whether you can say, fight on the side of the Orcs that are attacking Halas? One of the best parts about EverQuest was how free-flowing the faction was. You could become loved or hated by anyone. There really is some interesting competition they could...

Tad, have they said how intricate factions are going to be? Could you fight on the side of the Orcs trying to stop Halas from being established?
  34. Teekey

    EQ Never

From what it sounds like, the Rallying Calls will most likely be one time events. Some parts may take days, weeks, or months - but smaller components may just take a few hours.

I think it's okay. The big problem is that Lions have elongated noses, so it ends up looking cartoony to many people because it's a little more exaggerated. If they kept it a tiger-like creature with a flatter face, I don't think there would have been as many complaints. Anyways, what...
  36. Teekey

    EQ Never

If they can make leveling not feel like grinding, I don't see what the problem is. It seems a little more interesting to attain Tier 4 Warrior skills by gathering [Fuckin' Awesome Tier 4 Warrior Armor] than it does to simply watch experience bubbles fill. It could end up just being a very...

This is purely speculation, but it could go a bit more with what they were talking about later: For example, Copper is pretty recognizable. Perhaps Copper items augment Lightning attacks better, because they're good conductors of electricity. Perhaps certain types of wood augment Fire spells...
