The Authoritative Final Fantasy & Bravely Default thread

Weird that people are bumping this with their old school favorites -- I stayed up until 3am last night in a final push to finish my iOS playthrough of FFIV. Still a fantastic game. If you happen to be playing it, once you get to the moon, go straight to the Hummingway cave to get the Level...

    Buying a car?

Yes, electrical motors are friendly to total off/on. But in a hybrid, if you're at low speed, the gas engine turns off and will turn back on once you hit a certain speed or if you accelerate quickly. As for the constant on/off and wear, in a hybrid it isn't a problem because their gas engines...

    Buying a car?

I don't see what the big deal is with the car shutting itself off when you don't need it. Is there a delay in turning back on? Hybrids have been doing this since they were created. But I guess since they have an electric motor for low speed, it doesn't really matter when you're starting from a stop.

Dream Theater - Self titled album coming Sept. 24th

They're doing mini behind the scenes YouTube vids. There really isn't much here (each ep is only 2.5 min and no sound clips from the new record), but there are little blips of knowledge like the existence of an instrumental song, live strings, a 20 minute epic song, and a bass solo.

Nice find. There's some talk in there too about his new steampunk series,The Cinder Spires. It'll be more like Codex Alera with multiple viewpoints and it's influenced by Firefly:

Great shot of the firework. I had a great view for the fireworks, but the wind was blowing towards me, so the smoke made the majority of my shots hazy. Probably not something that's easily accounted for, but something to think about for next time.

Good timing. A bunch of good apps just went freehttp://gizmodo.com/the-best-free-app...-fir-700455273. Infinity Blade 2 is a fairly amusing ARPG-lite game and Sword and Sworcery is a fun adventure game. I've heard good things about Traktor DJ, too.

I have a 2.5 yr old iPad 2 and it's also pretty slow. But I was just attributing it's slowness to the act that I've upgraded my desktop and phone but not the iPad. So everything around it was getting faster, while it stayed the same. I'll probably sell it and get an iPad 4 though just for the...

    Gravy's Cooking Thread

The thing about cast iron is that it is dense, giving it a high heat capacity, meaning it holds more heat. This is good for searing because more heat can transfer into the meat in a shorter period of time, leading to better crusts. Edit: I don't think it's completely necessary to have a cast...

If you're looking to save a bit of cash while shopping for your pan, go to TJ-Max or Ross or any one of those reseller type stores. They carry brand names at a pretty steep discount. It probably won't be in a package and might be stacked with other pans, but a good quality pan will take a lot...

    Coffee thread

Replying to a post from almost 3 months ago... But we have a Nespresso Citiz with Aeroccino (automatic milk frother). The Nespresso capsules themselves are pretty good: convenient, good flavor, every now and then can be a little watery though. You have to order the capsules online and in...

    Engagement rings

Probably obvious, but the best thing to do is talk to her. You don't want to spend a good chunk of money on something she doesn't want, from the stone (diamond, moissanite, etc) to the style of the ring itself. IMO, find a good local mom and pop place with a wide variety of stones/settings, and...

    Daft Punk

One of the things I love about this album is how it can be framed as a concept album. Giorgio by Moroder sets the theme for it, where he mentions how he wanted to make a record with the sounds of the 50s, 60s, 70s, and a sound of the future, which Daft Punk do throughout the album. But he...

The Authoritative Final Fantasy & Bravely Default thread

FF8 has a mess of a story compared to FF9. After you travel to the orphanage and everyone remembers that they know each other, the game takes a huge nose dive in story with all of its space travel and time compression nonsense. In FF9, the plot takes a jump with Garland's big plan to have Terra...

    Buying a car?

Any thoughts on small crossovers? My MIL gave my wife a bunch of money to get a new car, telling her to get a Subaru Forester (the MIL has one, my wife hates it). My wife currently drives a Corolla, which is why we're thinking small crossover. Really, the only restrictions are AWD since the MIL...

It's cool and all that someone made an app to identify your friends... But humans are really good at that shit. Why use an app with 90% accuracy when you can just take a second look at the person and realize it's your friend with 100% accuracy.

    Puzzles and Dragons

I rolled a Great Valkyrie the other day, and while I really like her + Isis on a healer girl team, the hp of the team is pretty low (<6k). Great for rolling pengdra dungeons, but not much else, I've found. Or maybe I'm doing it wrong? GValk leader; Alraune, StE, Echidna, and Lilith as subs.
