As is yours, just a more extensive anecdote. So.... we're right? 2007, existing home built ~1965 and most recently renovated ~2000, 20% down. (Edit: It was appraised at more than 15% higher than I ended paying for it, FWIW.)

If anyone here listens to Sam Harris, he did a recent podcast on the psychology of wealth and savings that covered a lot of topics readers here might find useful: "In this episode of the podcast, Sam Harris speaks with Morgan Housel about the psychology of money and investing. Homesteading and Hobby Farm/Ranch

I just got back from a week at my dad's newly-finished hobby farm in the FL panhandle. He's got 120 acres, mostly feed grass with a bit of timber, and a 4-acre spring-fed lake. It is SO MUCH FUCKING WORK. It's half a job just maintaining the equipment needed to do the actual work, and the rest...

It varies a lot. Rents where I am in the Los Angeles suburbs are significantly cheaper (~25%) than buying the same property. This probably says more about how high the sale prices are, though, as rents are hardly cheap relative to incomes.

I'm visiting my dad in FL this week and he just got Starlink. It's entirely serviceable and a very pleasant experience to use. We have six people in the house browsing and using work VPNs and no one is frustrated. I'd definitely sign up if geography required.

Sure, but doing so requires significantly more willpower since I feel hungry faster on a processed carb-heavy diet. It's far easier to just not consume them than it is to fight feeling ravenous for hours at a time.

That's an "ohfuckfuckfuck" tap, IMO. Grabbing the leg in with that hand in that position doesn't do anything defensive for Ortega. I guess it's possible he might have been instinctively grabbing the injury and hit the leg on the way, but I don't think the distinction is important.

Typically when investment accounts are inherited you just legally establish death, open a new account, and transfer the assets. There's no need to liquidate. Right. The idea is before that point the universe was so hot that protons and electrons couldn't condense into atoms, which created a soup of charged particles that bounced photons every which-way. That now-red shifted incoherent fog is the CMB.

It's because the gravitational lens in this case is an oblong galaxy. With more distortion in one axis than the other you get a quadripole image because the diagonal light rays (relative to the galaxy's plane) get projected away from the viewer. If the lense were perfectly symmetric and the...
