    Best place to live

Yeah, had several friends from here (Savannah) recently move to Asheville. Pretty progressive place with an outstanding craft brew scene. Lots of mountain fun to be had, too. I took a long look at it. Just turned down a job opening there, actually, after some thought. Problem is that it...

Well, my max is like $350k. Never considered Africa, but pics of the Cape Town area look pretty nice and it's in a true Mediterranean climate zone. I'm pretty ignorant about South Africa, but isn't race violence and crime a pretty big concern there? And can I go swimming on those nice beaches...

    Best place to live

Raleigh is probably the best situated of all the places I'm considering. I love Wilmington area beaches and the Outer Banks (2-3 hours away), it's close to family (2.5 hours away), and it's close to the mountains (2-3 hours away). Plus Google Fiber. I'm single, how is the night life/downtown...

    Best place to live

I lived in Encinitas, CA, next door to San Marcos. Encinitas was far and away the best place I've lived. If I go back to the SD area I will definitely try to get back there. It's just at the absolute top of my price range though. I probably over represented my finances- with my single...

Well that's disappointing to hear about San Jose, but for some reason it doesn't surprise me. Your advice about staying near family is pretty good. I was worried about the cold/windy thing with the beaches in Northern Cal. For me, the beach is only so much fun if you can't go swimming etc...

All my Australia job options will lead me to Sydney, it seems. I've heard a lot of good things about Australia in general- other than crocs, sharks, snakes, and spiders.

I won't lie, the Google fiber thing is a big reason Raleigh was on my list. Just not having to deal with Comcast is a huge plus.

Yeah, the stadium we went to was in Viera (saw the Nats and Mets) but our hotel was in Indialantic right on the beach. The breakfast spot was the Beachside Cafe. Not fancy at all, but the food was outstanding and it was impossible to leave anything but full. We found it the first day and...

    Best place to live

I was just in Melbourne this past spring to see some spring training stuff. I used to live in Ft. Myers, FL, and hated it, so I expected the same from Melbourne. I was really surprised at how much nicer that area of FL was. Very clean, not too much traffic, going downtown was fun, beach was...

Spent a week in Austin last summer. Had a great time. It had great night life and a fantastic music scene. I definitely considered it, but it was very hot and there are no mountains/beaches nearby.

I would deal with it to be close to family. I live in Savannah Ga now so I know I could handle hot and humid. It's the other stuff with Raleigh I'm not sure about

Don't need to live directly in Boulder. It would be nice though. I've come to learn living near a cool place is totally different from living in it. That said, if I could get pretty close i'd be happy.

Thanks, that's the first hand account type of stuff I'm looking for. I don't mind getting hit with a blizzard every few years if the weather is awesome most of the time. Just looking at Zillow, real estate prices are pretty damn high there, you're right. I even looked into Luisville next door...

Yeah, I thought so too, but I did a little research into some of the historical weather data for Boulder, and it looks like they have pretty nice weather. Even in March and February and December they were getting days into the 60s and even 70s. The snowfall seems frequent but very light...

Only thing I've heard about Quebec is they have nice strip joints, and that's not really a consideration (although generally attractive women would certainly be a plus). Besides, I'm pretty sure the climate in Quebec would strike it off my list pretty quickly.

Those Dockers may be a great call for non-court days- thanks. Going to order a pair and see how they look/fit. Was also going to look intoShop Allbut I didn't know how much of their appeal was snazzy marketing and how much was actually performance.

    Men's Fashion

Funny you should mention that. Right before I made that post I checked online and found a J Crew style I really like but they have zero color options for the Bowery Slim line. They literally only have ONE color option for each material (Irish linen, Japanese Chambray, etc). Kind of crazy they...

    Pan'Theon: Rise' of th'e Fal'Len - #1 Thread in MMO

Don't get me wrong. Obviously you're free to judge anything you'd like. I'm just saying in my opinion if your judgment ignores a feature's value to the overall gestalt then your judgment has limited usefulness as it relates to the game as a whole.

    Pan'Theon: Rise' of th'e Fal'Len - #1 Thread in MMO

Gestalt. Trying to break down games by picking and choosing individual aspects and parts of those games never works. The value of each individual aspect of a game can only truly be judged when viewed through the lens of how that feature contributed to the game as a greater whole. The question...

    True Detective

The writers have clearly conveyed the following things about Mcadams' character: 1. She has daddy issues; 2. She enjoys something sexual that most women wouldn't normally request from their partner; 3. has an "outside the bedroom" persona that is clearly opposed to things she considers...

    Stephen King's The Dark Tower

Again, The Dark Tower series was tiedveryintimately with "reality." The reality of it is, most stories don't end in storybook fashion, they end at a truck stop in Duluth, or with an ignoble death in the mud of a ditch, or with an unexpected car crash- all those things that actually happen that...

    Stephen King's The Dark Tower

I suppose I can understand that. But Wind was basically done in the exact same vein as the story of Roland and Susan in Wizard and I think King is at his best when telling stories like that. It didn't disappoint, either.

    Stephen King's The Dark Tower

It was a good book, too (The Wind Through the Keyhole). I don't think The Dark Tower is over yet, so don't be so salty. King has hinted as much, anyway.

    Stephen King's The Dark Tower

I agree. People wanted some type of storybook ending, but the novels were never going to end that way- you could see that from very early on. What makes King great is his affinity for the Truth and his ability to capture realities that may be inconvenient to the story but that nevertheless...
