SOE Becomes Daybreak / Russian shutdown

There was more to it than that. I don't really understand details so take the following with as large a grain of salt as you want: but from what I've been told I gather the SB idea for EQN was less MMO and more single-box-multiplayer a la Minecraft: in that you could buy the box and build your...

SOE Becomes Daybreak / Russian shutdown

Yeah. I did get a PM on that post that convinced me I was far, far too optimistic and that EQN would have been in a bad state even if SB had purchased SOE. Back to figuring out the VGEmu forums I guess.

SOE Becomes Daybreak / Russian shutdown

Dude. You missed the forest for the trees. SB was trying to buy SOE + 38 Studios Assets that means that EQN had basically no art assets or much of anything else internally when this proposed purchase was going on; otherwise SB would not have been interested in 38 Studios and tossing the voxel...

    Pan'Theon: Rise' of th'e Fal'Len - #1 Thread in MMO

Lol. The issue was that Blizzard fucked up and didn't really understand how combat worked at release. Their fix screwed over people who did understand the game. I expect companies to live up to their mistakes and not screw players over for the sake of the shibboleth of "balance." Balance is...

    Pan'Theon: Rise' of th'e Fal'Len - #1 Thread in MMO

I was referencing this nerf - I think WF was an additional problem. Patch 1.8.0 - WoWWiki - Your guide to the World of Warcraft As I said, I believe Vanguard ended up doing a very similar nerf for possibly similar reasons (lower level color slow attack/high dps weapons were doing more damage...

    Pan'Theon: Rise' of th'e Fal'Len - #1 Thread in MMO

IIRC, Arcanite Reaper was the main item responsible for the huge nerf: in early Vanilla it was better than pretty anything but Thunderfury or one or two Purples in MC: but there were a lot of slow blue weapons. But it's been a while: I'm sure Vanilla Warriors on this forum could explain the...

    Pan'Theon: Rise' of th'e Fal'Len - #1 Thread in MMO

I didn't mind WoW's color coding for rarity. The problem was when they nerfed the dps on all weapons because it turned out slow blue weapons with high-dps were better than much faster purple weapons with lower dps because of instant attacks (that is Blizz didn't understand the game they made...

    Pan'Theon: Rise' of th'e Fal'Len - #1 Thread in MMO

I hate Quest-to-level and in an ideal world Quests wouldn't give XP, but the reality that I've come to accept recently is that Quests are the current best solution to the "Content for 30 minute-1 hour playtime Guy" problem. For the guy or girl who can only play an hour a day quest grinding...

    Pan'Theon: Rise' of th'e Fal'Len - #1 Thread in MMO

The wide open spaces were fine - the bigger problem worldwise was every area was a separate little world that had nothing to do with any other area. You do the CIS area having never seen CIS lore before and after CIS you never see it again. No continuity.

Vanguard - I don't give a fuck if it's dead, It's still brown as fuck (Download link in 1st post)

I implied same thing earlier but Luxer's post puts it into context: the game was originally designed for slow leveling so taking a week or two to get a Red Weapon from Original Pantheon or CIS was worth the effort. Same thing is true for Crafting and Dip XP. It was all supposed to take a long...

No. The lesson that no MMO house has ever learned is that guys want to be punched in the face, but only some of the time, and only if they'll have an opportunity to punch back.

Our World - Built by the Rerolled community

You have lost your mind. Action combat is all wrong for MMORPGs it is the necessary, inevitable evolution of dumbed down DPS only hotbar button mashing. Combat should be strategic: emphasis on Control over DPS. Original trinity, as we all know, was: Tank, Heal, Control not Tank, Heal, DPS.

Lol And since we're theorycrafting again: If you're trying to push the boundaries then an MMO needs to solve the following problems (in no particular order): - Content. Content for the guy who can only play an hour a day, the guy who can play 3-4 hours a day but only on weekends and...

Vanguard - I don't give a fuck if it's dead, It's still brown as fuck (Download link in 1st post)

Thumbs up for getting rid of levels 51+: worst thing SOE ever did for the game. Thumbs down for this suggestion: I'd actually recommend the opposite nerf the items that were added later to put them in line with original itemization. Return to the original slower leveling - which made those...

Won't happen. As was obvious on the original Pantheon thread: Brad refuses to recognize that he's making the same mistake he made at Sigil: scope creep, art before class/combat are well defined, disposable lore.

The pissed off 100 people are idiots: a good manager/director makes a company/game/film a bad one breaks the company/game/film. SOE/Daybreak is in the shitty position it is today because of Smed. The 100 people get to take credit for their participation in helping make the great...

FFXIV reboot has done okay, if not great. I gave up on Smed after the VG fiasco: if you're going to buy it then you also need to shut it down (excuse me; funset the original version), spend a year fixing it and then relaunch with a fanfare.

    Pan'Theon: Rise' of th'e Fal'Len - #1 Thread in MMO

You are not. I thoroughly enjoyed my time in VG despite (and in a few cases - such as with the bugivator - because of) the bugs, lag or chunking. Offensive/Defensive Target still the best MMO combat targeting design.

    Pan'Theon: Rise' of th'e Fal'Len - #1 Thread in MMO

The scope being large was caused by the management problems relatedly the lag issues could have been addressed if the scope hadn't been so large and if Brad had done the smart thing and focused on the engine instead of spending 30 million on Art when the engine was still fubar.
  33. tad10

Brad has got a more playable MMO-in-development right now than Smed. Which, frankly, I would never have believed 6, 12 or 24 months ago, given that EQNext has been in development (in various forms) since 2008. I mean seriously - WTF?

People get on Brad for his puffery and braggadocio but Brad has nothing on Smed; which is why I've advocated for shitcanning Smed for years but was willing to engage with Brad in the early days of Pantheon, and would again if Brad would just one time admit he's not a good project manager. -_-
