We just got a new dev manager. Dude’s been here for 14 years already as the "architect" leader, so it’s not like he’s some outsider. Had a team meeting yesterday and he drops this gem: he wants to "grow the department" by hiring a bunch of new college grads. Someone asked the obvious question...

    Project Hail Mary

Watched Project Hail Mary last night. It was decent, but not the amazing sci-fi film I was hoping for. Too silly and Disney-fied overall. I went in expecting harder sci-fi, but I did really appreciate the strong themes of friendship and loyalty..something a lot of recent movies have been missing.

Mine is measured in milliliters. Started off at .15ML and moved to .20ML. Felt pretty awful at that level and never increased it. At month two they wanted you to go to .50 and I was like hell no.

    What are you playing?

Started playing Enter the Gungeon. Initially felt this is way too difficult but starting to "Git Gud". Also, shocked only ~31% have this achievement? Considering how old this game is.

    For All Mankind

This show has crept more into science fiction than a plausible alternate timeline. There is no way they could be this much more advanced than us in about the same point in time. Getting to the outer planets is no joke and would take 2+ years at least. Also, way way too many females in position...

Funny story and perhaps shows where we're headed... Today our company pushed out a huge Windows 11 update. System literally grinded away for over 30 minutes applying updates. Finally get to desktop....can't log into Outlook or Teams. Some obscure Microsoft authentication error. Tried a few...

    The Boys

The problem is most characters are unlikable, which has been a trend this past decade. And, you know, for some reason I cannot stand Jack Quaid. There's just something about that actor that annoys me.

I didn't bother with the past couple of seasons. Is this still dog shit (hey, I liked the first couple seasons)?

    Widow's Bay

The sheriff is hilarious. When Tom was thrashing around in the shallow water, the sheriff walked up and said, “It’s okay, son.” The whole scene struck me really funny the way it looked.

For our use, and specifically what my focus is, it's purely UI stuff. So I think it could work quite well for that since it's structured and has a defined pattern. But for other things that's not so cut and dry - such as incomplete or incorrect vendor specs, etc. -- yeah doubtful.

What we have right now is a bunch of Indian contractors making a god damn mess. I'm thinking about proposing that our lead developers put together solid plans, requirements, and guardrails for each feature and then hand those off to the contractors to use in Copilot/Codex/Claude/whatever. The...

Where are they getting this from? Because in my org, pretty much everyone is clueless. Sure, we have access to Github Copilot, but that's pretty much it... and with zero guidance on how to use it effectively.

For those of you using AI coding agents for work, what's your typical workflow? Do you mostly stay inside the IDE, or are you primarily using the CLI or desktop tools like Cursor, Codex, and/or Claude Code? At my company, we haven’t formalized anything yet. Our repos don’t have any standard...

I took one of those Myers Briggs personality tests in college. I think it came back with something like 95% introverted. I used to think it would be nice to have someone to travel with -- because there ain't no way I'm going anywhere by myself. But I'm such a homebody I think I'd just be...

Loved it! The inn and especially "The Captain's Suite" were fantastic. It strongly reminded me of Stephen King's short story "1408". It literally took me a year and a half to finish The Witcher 3, obviously playing sporadically. The only thing that kept me going was a reasonably interesting main story, and even the side quests were pretty engaging. The combat was pretty brain-dead, though.. I just heavy attacked my way to...
