GoT - Is Over, Post Your Drogon Sightings

Nope. This is the third interpretation of the Valonqhar prophecy. It was never said whom Valonqhar it was... it's the little brother to Cersei's 3 children... and she's going to have her life squeezed from her by her unborn last son.

GoT - Is Over, Post Your Drogon Sightings

Can't remember if Benjen is back as a wight in the books (it's been toooooo looooong). But I wouldn't be surprised if the north raid (or rather, one very specific part of it, like the door holding) was one of the 3 main plot points that GRRM had ready, and the showrunners didn't think of the...

the ecological fallacy and identity politics

No you cannot examine that. It's treason!!! Because they're now at the point of "too big and influent to fail (easily)". Competition no longer needs to be better than them, they need to be massively better. And not getting bought out before they grow.

the ecological fallacy and identity politics

As I said somewhere in the general politic thread, if you have even the slightest difference in the distribution of ability between two populations, the more you are selective, the more the population % will differ. The only way you can "restore" equality is by giving up on ability, and picking...

the ecological fallacy and identity politics

The core progressive idea: if equality of opportunity does not yield equality of outcomes, something is wrong with the equality of opportunity.

GoT - Is Over, Post Your Drogon Sightings

Almost every great family in Westeros is riddled with consanguinity. I mean, Tywin and Joanna Lannister (Cersei & Jaime's parents) were cousins. Which makes it funny because of the recurring theory that Tyrion is a Targaryen bastard, son of the Mad King himself and "proof is that he's a dwarf...

Hence, the onerous financial sector, with all its regulations and expertise. KS, like a fair number of recent startups (up to the most valued such world-wide, Uber) is a very simple and basic idea: "if we can ignore all those pesky regulations and safeguards, we can massively reduce costs and...

    What did you just read?

Speaking of History, I'm almost finished with SPQR - An ancient history of Rome and that's probably the first time I ever heard about the Social War which blows your mind. Imagine that an alliance of italian cities decide to declare war against Rome... to force Rome to grant their people roman...

    What did you just read?

The first 3 books are good, but the series starts to bog down quickly after that. Stopped the series at book 6. (I have book 7. Unread since 2012...)

    The Sci-Fi Book Thread

Yup. I had skipped on it when Amazon put it on my recommendations, but went back when recommended here. Didn't regret it. Not sure I'll read the 3rd book as soon as it comes out, because I have currently a hefty backlog... (on the other hand, I'm on track to beat the "75 books read" reading...

GoT - Is Over, Post Your Drogon Sightings

By the way, I saw an article today (can't find the link again) about mathematical analysis of the interaction of the characters and scenes vs chance of death before the end of the series. They had done it last year based on season 1-5 (and the results weren't too surprising, and a lot of...

    Guild Wars 2

Let's be simple. I did log almost daily (save for a few stretches where I had really other stuff keeping me busy) since GW2 came out. I stopped logging about 2 weeks after HoT, and logged in exactly once per living season chapter (since that unlocked them for free) "just in case, maybe one day".

They do? Whoa, I totally skipped them on every alt, because it was not worth doing (since I don't need rep because I fly, and I don't need shards because Iksregeed give me free stuff, and I don't need anything else anyway, it's a non-raiding alt). But if it counts...

Poll The Great Telemarketing Avalanche of 2016/2017

Doesn't work in France. Does that mean we're out of EU yet? There is an official "do not call" registry. Made no difference. Btw, this thread made me decide to junk the voicemail (on land line). It only gets telemarketing calls anyway, so that's not a loss.

Poll The Great Telemarketing Avalanche of 2016/2017

Same thing. Unless the phone displays the name of someone on my contact list, you're going to deal with my voicemail. That's mostly on my landline. The only marketing calls on my cellphone are my phone operator who wants to sell me new plans or bundle my cell with their internet fiber offer...

That's because you're a shitty Lich King minion. As a minion of the Old Gods (Shadow Priest, as my blade likes to remind me regularly, when she's not complaining that the fight is boring) my T20 4-piece would probably make me pick a LFR cloak over my legendary (which is the 2nd BIS legendary) if...

It's "training". Basically, most of the bosses have a few trash or other stuff just before them to showcase the important mechanics you'll face in the fight. In this particular case, the infusion and lane running between Maiden jumps.

They didn't had the technology for hotfix back in Vanilla. Any modification to the game, including server-side required to stop and restart the realms, so it was always deferred to maintenance day unless it was game-breaking (read: too exploitable)

"Apparently", they're dropping some hints in 7.3 about the possible expansion, which means we might see it unveiled at Cologne's Gamescom, like they did before. There's also rumors of a post-Argus patch as well, but probably not a major raid given how the Antorus raid wraps the story. So...

Assuming Argus the Unmaker is really a codename, rather than the real reason Sargeras came there. Because the alternative theory that's now floated is that Argus was a proto-Titan, like Azeroth, and Sargeras did double dip by destroying a proto-Titan and enlisting some of the most powerful...

    Wonder Woman (2017)

Apparently, there's a pretty big easter egg hidden in the middle of the movie. If you wondered why the Chief's presentation to Diana isn't subtitled, and only people speaking Blackfoot can understand it, it's because there's a lot more going on than you realize (beware, the URL spoils).

It is one, but then, you have to fear the transition back to the next expansion's gimmick. Because we're not going to carry those artefact weapons with us. Heck, they've said in their dev interview that our legendaries essentially shut down at 120. No effects anymore.

The next expansion is called The Universal Crusade, and this time, WE are the ones leading the purge of every single trace of void gods so that the universe is finally safe for the birth of Azeroth. (which does sounds suspiciously like Azatoth, one of the lovecraftian old god figures)

At the moment, doing that a bit is useful since you'll want to upgrade your current legendaries (unless they're shit, and you hope for the new ones). The liver is a good first start, because it does regenerate. See an old post of mine where I was exactly describing this. Embryo selection a-ok, but you're not allowed to select based on a number of characteristics. The reason why it's forbidden isn't because we don't know how to do it. The reason it's forbidden is that it's "Eugenics", and Eugenics...
