Well that's exactly what happened.. HBO paid for it. A Larry David kickstarter would have been funded in minutes with the promise of physical media though.
Everquest was never super mainstream so Brad needs a sugar-daddy like Arrested Development got with Netflix. Maybe if he sells his soul...
Why should a instant skip content ability be available to a selected class at all in a game that is focused on combat? Balancing around this single ability becomes nightmarish if it saves you 30-60min of waiting or re-clearing. And trivializes travel in general.
Classes having useful, unique buffs/abilities for a group is a good thing and I'm not arguing against that.
IMO ports fall into a different category entirely and should be handled, ideally, by the gameworld instead of a specific class.
Hahahahaha.
So you want me to design the travel system in Pantheon blindly.
I'm pointing out the design issues of classwalling ports and why it is a bad idea. Nostalgia is one thing, but wanting the lack of classwalled ports doesn't mean I want the game to be a WoW-clone.
None of those things are linked to the dungeon finder discussion Brad has brought up. TeleportClass becomes dungeon finder functionality in a game with no dungeon finder.
Heh.
Yeah, select classes having easy-access to currency because of an essential button press that anyone would want to use if they cared about time. Totally balanced.
That's what crafting should be for.
Tank is part of the trinity and used when playing the content.
Very comparable to what we're actually discussing which is a certain class getting a 'skip content' button.
You can use that exact argument for almost any type of dungeon finder.
Giving one or two classes port adds doesn't add much value to game other than making those specific classe(s) special snowflakes that will receive whispers all day seeking transportation and down right mandatory in some...
I'm making a case for not classwalling porting as it's just bad design in a number of ways. Sending a in game tell to a TeleportClass asking for transportation does not promote 'socializing' so I'm sure why people keep bringing that up.
Never claimed I wanted easy-mode travel to everywhere...
/find TeleportClass 10-50. Invite.
If you design the classes well they will be desirable for *gasp* non-superfluous things like tackling content. Classwalling instant travel just promotes two-boxing and/or pigeon-holing your group into taking a class for fucking teleport instead of the merits...
Giving certain classes port just turns a dungeon finding system into TeleWiz finding system.
I'm all for limited travel (exploring in beta EQ is my fondest MMO memory) just not when it's tied to certain classes.
Good one.
Yes, the ability to teleport for people that didn't roll a teleport class should depend on who and what classes you have on your friends list at the time. Great fun design right there.
Casters getting all the useful quality of life stuff because reasons is totally the reason...
Class only teleports are really fucking stupid. Why would anyone actually want this is beyond me.
Oh oops I rolled a melee class. Time to beg for some teleports -- I'M SO IMMERSED.
