I keep getting tricked into watching these Taylor Sheridan dramas because they look like westerns.

2 episodes to go. Might as well power through

Whoops, confusing the series with 1923.

This one was alright but a bit on the heavy side. 1923 is the one I would not bother watching at this point unless they do another season to finish it.

really enjoyed Landman - watch it if you haven't, its hilariously great and funny and over the top drama - and decided to finally start the Sheridan TV universe with this show since its the first of the Yellowstone shows (chronologically). Will move to 1923 next after a palette cleanser of some modern comic hero shows.

It was ok. I really, really, really liked the Oregon Trail vibe of the show, it was a cool setting you don't see often and the sweeping western vistas were amazing. Sadly by the end it turns into a girlboss / injun show that is pretty tropey but still overall worth the hours, although the main character is nails-on-chalk with how much philosophical voice over she has every episode which is ridiculous for a 18 year old chick with zero life experience.

the wildest thing to me though was I was 100% sure that was Jennifer Lawrence (hunger games, x-men) as Elsa, and only seeing the credits on Plex as the last episode rolled did I realize it wasn't, the actress is Isabel May. Jesus Christ how do these two chicks look like clones

This, this is exactly the worst thing about the show. You could look past some of the other (major) flaws. You could watch it from a different perspective. But no, every other scene they have this inane babbling from some teenage chick who thinks she has deep thoughts to share.

Then they added her voiceover as narrator on some other show too, I can't remember which one.

I kinda thought American Primeval sucked, although it was better than Godless. Seems like Netflix is trying to outdo itself by making westerns where everyone is some kind of murdering psychopath philosopher and they're just trying to one-up each other as to who can be the most cruel while moving through this dark wasteland where you can't go an hour without running into someone or something that wants to torture you to death. 1883 depicts crossing the prairie as extremely harsh and unforgiving, but these two shows just make it seem like literally hell which is a bit much, for me at least.

American Primeval, the show where every single white man is a murdering psychopath but the Indians are all around nice guys?

It certainly cranks the trope up to 11, if thats whats meant by "better"

American primeval was good, but 1883 was much better. Her voiceovers were ridiculous enough to be funny. An allegory for modern woman realizing how cruel the world really is and how much she depends on men to protect her from it.

"I remember the first time I saw it. Tried to find words to describe it. But I couldn’t. Nothing had prepared me. No books. No teachers. Not even my parents. I heard a thousand stories… But none could describe this place. It must be witness to be understood. And yet, I’ve seen it. And I understand it less than when I first cast eyes on this place."

"Somehow I felt immune to the dangers of this place. As if the land and I had struck a deal. I could pass on heart so long as I loved it. And I did. I loved everything about it."

"I think cities have weakened us as a species. There are no consequences there. "

"Death is everywhere on the prairie. In every form you can imagine. And a few your worst nightmare couldn’t muster."

I honestly just glazed over everything she ever said. Isabel May is my type so that really helped the show out for me personally, ha. But your quotes of what she said are pretty spot on for what you're implying. Psychopathic white men might as well be the very reason that the wilderness around the world was and is still, to this day, pushed back.

If you arent the villain, you're the victim or whatever that fucking line is.

To be fair, quite a few of the Indians were psychopaths as well. The only good part was the Jim Bridger character.

The line about seeing it and understanding it less was an early line. I think even the first voiceover. It made me laugh and is what made listen for other naive shit like feeling immune to the dangers. Cities weakening the species caught my attention and made me think she was possibly waking up. Her voiceovers reinforced the shit going on with the other settlers. Like people unwilling to leave their useless shit, unwilling to admit they have cholera (or whatever the disease was). But it is all pretty allegorical so I understand if other people don't see it.

I think it needs more t&a though. Also my plex subtitles seem to say "slavic and german chatter" all the time, especially when noone is chattering. Great. Still have a few episodes left.

It's in the background. You probably need to turn your hearing aids up.
