The Jets just moved up three spots to 3 and sent the 6 pick, two second-round choices this year and their second rounder in 2019 to the Colts.

Holy shit. They must have fallen in love with somebody. That's the one downside of Jimmy winning 5 games in a row at the end of the season. It could have been the 49ers raping the Jets for a top 5 pick.

Yea thats way too much draft capital to move up just THREE spots, and knowing the Giants AND the Browns could potentially either not pick a QB, or trade out of those positions themselves.

Lets say their guy is Rosen.

The Browns are the Browns and they just gave money to Taylor and Hyde, I bet they dont take another chance on one of these young QB's and instead takes Nelson, Chubb, Fitzpatrick or even Barkley. If they do that that and then the Giants take Barkley or one of those other top defenders, now they KNOW the Colts arent taking one of those top 4 QB's, so all of those guys would still be there possibly when the Browns pick again. Lets say the Browns DO take one of those QB's, and then the Broncos are up, they just paid Keenum, I cant see them drafting a QB at 5 when there is so much defensive talent to be had. There would still be 3 of those guys left.

So that means if they stood pat at 6, the WORSE case scenario is the Browns take one of those QB's, the Giants take one for Eli to mentor, and then the Broncos do the same to create competition for Keenum. That means they would be most likely be left with only Mayfield and Jackson as options, which is not ideal, but that is their WORSE case scenario.

But as I stated before its most likely that 1, and perhaps TWO of those top 4 guys get drafted before its their turn. So even if they were targeting Rosen but ended up with Allen or Darnold thats not the end of the world and they would still have 2nd round draft picks this year and another next.

Instead they just gave up 3 2nd rounders to move up 3 spots to get a guy who still might not even be there. If the Giants trade out of that spot, whichever team that trades with them is most liekly scouting the same guy (Rosen) and they are going to end up having to take a guy they would have ended up with at 6 anyway. Its retarded as fuck. Its like what the Bears did with the Niners last year. The 49ers were NEVER taking Trubisky, yet they still moved up to take a guy no one was drafting anyway.

Its mind boggling.

The Browns could end up taking Barkley and Fitzpatrick, the Giants could take Nelson, and the Colts could of took Chubb, and the Broncos Edmunds. The jets could have had the pick of the QB crop at SIX potentially. Instead they just sold a ton of draft capital in HOPES of landing a guy that might not even pan out if they do get him, or they might end up with their 2nd or 3rd option after trading away all those 2nd rounders for nothing. Must suck to be a Jets fan.

edit: Its just retarded all the way around. If they do get Rosen if he is the guy they wanted at 3, and none of those other teams in that top 6 mix pick QB's, they will look like idiots because they could have got him at 6 anyway. If they dont get him because another team leap frogs them and throws a wrench into their plans they are going to look like idiots. Its just a dumb move either way.

This actually makes things very interesting.

If you think about it, the top 8 teams are in very interesting positions draft wise. You have multiple teams that need a franchise QB (Jets, Giants, Broncos) yet two of them potentially might not take a flier on this years crop. The Jets are all in on one of those guys so we know the Colts are not going QB either way at 6. The biggest question is what the Browns do with those 2 top 5 picks. If they DONT take a QB (which I could definitely see the Browns doing), and the Broncos elect to not challenge Keenum and dont take a QB, the Bucs and Bears are most definitely not taking a QB, that means only the Jets will had took one of those top 4 guys.

That also means the 49ers would be on the clock with Allen, Darnold, and Mayfield still available, which means they could potentially trade down and haul a massive array of picks from a QB hungry team looking to jump up and perhaps land a franchise QB at a tremendously valuable position and situation. Say the Cards, Bills or Dolphins offer to trade up, the 49ers would most likely get at least a couple 2nd rounders to move back a couple slots, or maybe more who knows.

All 4 of those guys could be gone by the time the Jets are done picking, or 3 of them could still be there going into pick 7. Going to be a crazy night.

edit: Some insiders have Darnold rated higher than Rosen and some have Allen a late 1st rounder. They could be going after Darnold, which would be even weirder.

That noise you just heard was the entire NBA saying "THIS".

Seriously, the Jets' meaningless (in the long-term) 3 point wins against the Browns and Jaguars pushed them from 2/3 to 6. Each of those wins essentially cost then 1.5 second round draft picks.

If ever there needed to be a defense of tanking, there you go.

And the preposterous thing is, the trade was arguably the right move. There's no guarantee two of the top 5 teams (whether directly or via trade) would have taken Barkely/Chubb/Nelson, leaving the Jets out in the cold. It does seem to establish that the Colts are willing to roll the dice with Brissett - or have internalized that if Luck is done, they're picking at the top again next year.

I don't see the top 4 QBs getting past pick 5, maybe 8 at the latest;

1. Bills- There's no way the Bills go with McCarron with all the picks they've built up.
2. Jets- obviously all in
3. Browns- are in the best place to get the top QB after Hue went 1-31 and they dumped last year's option.
4. Giants- Maybe not but are they expecting another bad year and early opportunity? Eli is on his last legs and they all know it
5. Denver- could Elway risk going with another late shitty QB pick? It's obvious... either he can't draft QB worth a damn, or his coaches can't coach them worth a damn. Their window of opportunity is one of the tightest in the NFL. Hell, it's probably already expired

If this isn't enough, Arizona and Miami really need another QB bad. That's seven places and I can't imagine there won't be even more movement to win at musical QB chairs. Who really wants to be the GM that's left standing when the final chord ends?

Thats a slippery slope of a conversation though. With that line of thinking the 49ers fucked themselves by starting Garoppolo and winning 6 games, costing them a shot at a top 2 pick and inflating Garoppolo's value at the same time, forcing them to pay him more money. That would be a stupid assessment IMO. Any 49er fan would take closing the season out with 5 straight wins, tremendous confidence, a completely different locker room, and a franchise QB locked up long term, instead of say finishing 2-14 with the 2nd pick in the draft with Garoppolo on a franchise tag.

Or what about the Broncos? They just won a Super Bowl 2 years ago, had down seasons and missed on Lynch and Simien. They were in a desperate QB situation going into this year having resorted to Brock Oswieler at one point, yet they beat both the Jets and Colts in the final few weeks of the season, effectively costing them 3 draft slots, as they would have drafted at 4th overall, but now have to settle for Case Keenum and a ho hum 7th pick.

The NBA and NFL are vastly different you cant really compare the two.

Just look at the Browns. How many first overall picks have they had? Or at least top 3 picks? They have had at least 5 or 6 in the past decade if not more. What do they have to show for it? Nothing, he just retired.

Yet the Eagles just won a SuperBowl after looking lost after firing Chip Kelly not that long ago, then they make a couple of deals, get Wentz, bring back Foles, and bang, they are champions.

You cant really tank in the NFL, the NFL tanks you.

Report: Haloti Ngata turned down identical offer from Lions to join Eagles

Lions fans feeling kind of betrayed. Ngata was the face of the organization in many ways last season. He's been talking up the Lions hype train for a long time. He even was on Twitter trying to recruit players to the Lions already this off-season.

I don't blame the guy for going where he thinks he can get a ring, but it's really confusing to see from a personality like him.

Jesus the Jets got raped....the GM better hope he hits on the pick. Has to be a QB obviously that could set them back another 5 years. Talk about no poker hand at all and getting fleeced.

I heard Dave Dameshek ask Ike Taylor once about tanking for draft picks and Ike pointed out that teams like the Browns have top 5 draft picks every year and teams like the Steelers and Patriots never even pick in the top 20, yet who winds up the superbowl every other year? The Steelers and Patriots. Who can sign top free agents at below market rates? That's right. Winning begets more winning and that is more important than draft position.

His point is still valid though.

You can't tank in the NFL, the league will ultimately decide where you end up based on the team you put out there and how you match up with the other team, and who wants it more and or is playing better, have less injuries etc.

Like no team approaches a week thinking they will lose, you lose most of the time if your bad. Like we just said the Browns have top picks year in and year out yet can only win 1 game in 2 seasons that's fucking a disgrace.

The Patriots haven't had a top 10 pick since like 1998 if not the early 90's and look at their continued success.

Steelers haven't been to a Super Bowl in a while.

I'm sure Ike included the Steelers because he was one, but they are in the playoffs pretty much every year and if it wasn't for the patriots owning them in the playoffs they probably would have gone another time or two by now.

Let's put it this way. The steelers have been to 8 superbowls, won 6, lost to the Patriots in the playoffs 3 times, twice in the championship game and had exactly 0 top 5 picks in the last 40 years. Their last #1 pick was fucking Terry Bradshaw in 1970.

I was just going to come to your defense again but point well taken.

Most successful franchises haven't had a top 5 pick in DECADES.

Seems like a lot of picks for the Jets to give up to move from 6 to 3 in a deep draft. This draft isn't like 2012 when it was top heavy with just 2 guys. But yeah, maybe Jets fell in love with one guy, and/or they're putting pressure on the Browns to pick their QB at #1 instead of believing they can take Barkley at 1, and their QB at 4.
