You guys trying to convince yourselves Minecraft graphics are “good” or even ok reminds me of back in College when people would try to convince you PBR was a good beer

The two games that defined my childhood were EQ and Half-Life. My brain just cannot pretend that a game being made in 2026 with worse graphics than either of those is somehow acceptable.
Roblox has more money than half the nations on Earth, and it has Minecraft style graphics. People care more about fun than graphics in the long run.

The graphics may successfully filter out some of the more crotchety old farts and bring in younger blood whereas MnM I feel does the opposite. MnM appeals to the shit graphics that were peak in EQ's early days but are extremely dated now, and these graphics are just a style of graphics which is incredibly prolific in this day in age with large scale games.

they're changing/adding core systems very rapidly, like updates to mob leashing, looting, economy via auction house, etc. now there's baked in FTE, too.

it SEEMS good... but i'll just admit my hope for this game is that, when it comes out, it still resembles what i played over the last year or more in the short open betas, in just a bigger, more fleshed out world.

but i recognize the problem is that experience i had was quite simple, and the game cannot remain simple. so i do have some fear with just how they flesh it out. this game in particular could be especially vulnerable to the 'good idea fairy' from some producer who realizes the potential for grabbing the minecraft/roblox demographic and helps them market it towards that. who knows what it would become if they took the whatever millions of $ on offer and relinquished some control to that devil

speaking of, i wonder how they've funded this so far. looks like from their discord they've been in development for over 5 years. hopefully they're bitcoin rich or something and can just go at their own pace and have fun.... but man why do i feel a sneaky pessimism about that

Isn't evercraft the discord replacement for eqtraders? What kind of a sorry ass attempt is this at a game?

It's very good , think of the graphics like a chick at the bar in a big coat or shabby cloths, sometimes when you get her home there is beauty underneath

This game is walking a fine line between the correct way to do early EQ nostalgia and a modern game. Stuff like the AH is cool, but they need to make sure they don't add EVERY modern convenience or it'll lose the charm of going to town to trade and show off your shit and get buffs and stuff like that. As long as the AH is a physical place (and they need to work on their spacing for interactables, the smithing anvil is a fucking pixel peak situation at prime hours) it'll be cool but I do worry some of the memberberry feels they do as well or better than MnM will get erased by modernizing too much.

It's a fine line because I'm not trying to do corpse runs, but I loved stuff like crafted gear being WORTH IT at every level it was available as well as it taking some actual time to skill up. So you know those craftlords will be getting paid once they dump the hours in mastering every tradeskill. Stuff like fast travel is also a slippery slope, but we can't be walking across the continent like it's 1999.
