There's 3pm Thursday showings, so they're really trying to maximum as much as they can with the long runtime.
my local AMC has showings as early as 8am and late as 10:45, and even they have decent tickets sold already. Any normal time is virtually sold out for a premium theater. Gonna be a big opening weekend.

the nice nearby non chain place, has 10 screens. this weekend, they have a 11am showing of Polar Express (for weekly kids thing) the rest is all avatar, 8 in 3d and 8 in 2d.
the new marquee, has 12 screens, but only showing it on 3, for 9 showing per day (3 in 2d, 3 in 3d normal screen and 3 in 3d on big screen)
the shitty amc, also has 9 showings, but has $600 rental for up to 40 people at 11am.

edit, was checking prices, amc now has 18 showings on sat. 11 3d, 6 2d and 1 with captions.

amc, 9pm in 3d, $21.22
marquee, 8pm in 3d, large screen $18.04
non-chain. 8pm in 3d, $11.20

I just dont see the point. It looks like the same story as the first. At least the first was fun in regards to the SFX and such. The story was cliche and has been done before by so many, but it was still a fun movie(still too long). But to pay just to see the same thing again? Why.

I would have passed on this completely but my boss and his wife are really excited to see it, and ever since I got a bunch of coworkers and their significant others together to see the first Avatar we have kind of made a habit of seeing movies as a group once in awhile (with work paying for tickets plus dinner and drinks beforehand), so I'm not going to bow out just because I think the movie will be shit. I'm usually the one that organizes the purchases too, so he asked me to buy tickets, so I'm doubly expected. Not surprisingly, a few people asked me why I never set anything up for Black Panther 2 :p Hey, if someone had really wanted to see it I would have asked around, and likely gone as well, but at least I dodged that bullet. A couple didn't ask because they already know the answer (that I'm racist, obviously!). So, Thursday night IMAX for me I guess. At least I can get hammered beforehand, and be sober by the time it is over.

Entirety of FoH and $3 billion in box office revenue: say what you want about the story but the visuals were amazing.

Astro: I can't handle it and my brain hurt. Look at this super comprehensive study with a sample size of 24 people so you know it's a really wide spread problem and not incredibly anecdotal. I'm too old to live and I wish I had my old black and white TV.

I've no doubt there's a tiny portion of people that can't handle it just like with almost anything in life but... You're you.

3D TV is never going be a hit on the market, so while it's nice that Cameron can use the tech properly it still comes down to how well it looks 2D for the masses and if the story is an improvement over the original. 10/10 and 6/10 isn't going to 2B the box office.

How low would you rate the stories for TLJ and whatever Ep9 was called? That was a bigger franchise yet still lower returns so if you don't deliver something other than CGI there is a cap.

Thanks for validating the point I made where I said "I've no doubt there's a tiny portion of people that can't handle it just like with almost anything in life but... You're you."
