Why provide the tools necessary to provide future competition to the franchise? Initial gain is negligible when they fail to sell copies of BF5/2143 because BF4 gave the community everything they needed to make their own games for the next 3-5 years.
Pretty much. Providing mod tools to a game that only sees iterations every 4 to 5 years makes sense. It keeps the game relevant and might even increase sales in the long term when certain mods gain popularity. However, when you are releasing your game every year or every other year, providing mod tools is fiscally irresponsible.

2143 makes me hard in the pants or a new World War II game with the modern engine. FAP

There was one easy answer to stopping the status quo in metro, and leading your pug team to domination. And that was smoke grenades. Probably the most influential tool in any infantry battle... and no one EVER used them since they didn't give points.

Little bubbles of magic that blind entire portions of their team when launched down the correct fire lanes.

I hope they are in bf4 as well.
A friend and I did this. Was no better feeling then 2 people with smoke grenades turning the tide of a stalemated 64 player metro.

As much sense as this makes, you can always point at Skyrim as proof that isn't the case. (Not saying you are wrong in your point, just hate that you are right here.)

Except the Elder Scrolls isn't a game released regularly. It was 5 years between 4 and 5. 6 hasn't even been announced yet and Skyrim (5) is already 2 years old.

Because they throw Fallout games in between now. They're the same game, different era.

I was more referring to a game that could have gone that route, if they had wanted to. Seeing as how the BF franchise used to allow mods.

Anyone seen any good pre-order offers still available? Best I've found is 10$ store credit on greenmangaming.com if I pre-order there.

Dio, there are significant changes in the game engines between TES games on top of the delay between iterations. Even if it were a valid comparison, it would be a case that the devs don't mind giving you their tools because they already know they will always have better tools and the bigger sand box (even if the community is more creative). Could you honestly say that with the dev team for BF? Sure there's some upgrades and shiny features, but the differences between even BF2/BF4 (not to mention 3:4) are almost negligible if you remove the destruction physics/visual updates. Could you say the same for Morrowind and Skyrim or Oblivion and Skyrim? While not leagues apart, each iteration brings quite a bit more to the table in comparison.

Can't decide if I should buy the Premium as well. Who is buying the premium? And how does it work? Is it all the DLC forever for BF4 or just for the first 12 months?

I bought premium, I got real lucky when it was mistakenly part of a gamestop sale.

you pay up front and you get all 5 DLC packs 2 weeks ahead of when you would be able to buy it separately. Prioritized queue for servers. Premium only perks (usually dog tags and assignments). I only bought it because I already know I'll be buying all the DLC packs so why not.

I think it might be marginally cheaper to go the premium route then individual. Plus with bf3, they did double xp weekends and whatnot.

I'm hesitant to say you get everything since this is EA we are talking about, but that is how it worked with BF3.

Game is fun as hell. But that entire trailer was making me cringe. Did not do BF series justice. And the actor seemed like a fucking dweeb.

Nothing beats BC2 and this game doesn't even come close. Sorry.

Beta was nothing to shake a stick at. If you are playing on the older consoles it's a horrible graphical experience and if you are playing on a new console all it will be is upscaled with little effort. PC version is bugged to hell and back and will be completely broken even with a Day 1 Patch.

I hope people here save their money.
