I remember getting a copy of the original Blade Runner for $1 in highschool and the parents of all my friends practically begged to borrow it, but all my friends and I couldn't stand it.
I don't remember any scenes. fell asleep on several of the attempts.

Maybe I was too young then to appreciate it.

Ryan has been in too many fringe movies that have fallen flat for me to care..

Blade Runner isn't that good of a movie. It's a cinematic masterpiece but a boring movie with some mixed performances and scripting.

Everyone I know who likes it actually just likes the setting but they can't even remember half the scenes or stupid set pieces and they fall back on the speech at the end by the replicant as somehow vindication for the entire rest of the movie.

"Remember the scene where Harrison Ford pretends to be a journalist or something with a hilariously stupid fake voice to get close to a stripper replicant?"

"Yea but man like tears in the rain dude it's amazing!"

They're making a new Dune?!?!?!?!
Jesus. I don't know about dune. I love books one and two like any nerd, but the story is ISIS in space.

Talk about clash of cultures. The thing is that in dune, the Muslims win. Even if Paul does a little Jesus homage. His son sure fucking doesn't.

I feel this way about playing as communists/socialists/nazis in video games, but at the end of the day I'm not really murdering people or crippling economies so that millions starve. I'm playing a video game.

As long as they don't fuck up Dune with SJW islamist apologists horseshit, it will be fine.

Oh, its a great story and I appreciate it as one.

I think people would actually get triggered. If you told that story as straight as Herbert did, it would offend just about everyone.

He wrote a religious story. And a good one.

The movie has its lenghts and goofy shit and Harrison Ford is not particular interesting, but it has some great scenes as you said. My favourite one:

There aren't many sci-fi movies that can stand with Blade Runner. It's a pretty short list.

I can think of plenty of movies I think are better than Blade Runner, hell I don't think Blade Runner would even make my top 50. I can't think of many sci-fi movies that are even as good it though.

Dark City, it's consistently under rated. Suffered a lot from coming out the same year as the matrix and having a very similar theme. Of course you can make a fair argument that's not Sci-Fi at all, it's just a Fable.

But if you ever looked for it, it would be catagorized as sci-fi.

If we are talking about world building in a cinematic hour - Dread3D did a damn fine job and was a good action flick.

The final act is pretty fucking stupid

HAVE YOU BEEN TO SUNSET BEACH?!?!?

I like how it's building up into a Jesus story though, and you can tell that it is... and then he goes FULL JESUS. Unapologetically FULL JESUS.

Neo does the same thing in the Matrix. They really are incredibly similar movies. The Matrix just does it with kinda-science, Dark City does it with kinda-mysticism.

You're not wrong though. The third act is an acquired taste.

The original scripts always have the religious stuff left out or toned down, then the directors insert all of that crap when it comes time to film. The Matrix sequels and Avatar could have been so much better if they stuck to what was written, so here's to hoping that shit gets left out of this.

While we're comparing Blade Runner to other movies, I just watched Westworld last night and it has a really similar premise: the robots are almost indistinguishable from real humans... until they turn evil. It has a 67% user rating too, which is pretty close to Blade Runner's 79%, and Michael Chrichton directed so it looked like it would be a good movie, if not a great one. Compared to even the worst versions of Blade Runner, Westworld should be a 6 or 7%, not a 67%.

Right now I'm hoping Blade Runner 2049 sucks less than Westworld, just to keep my expectations grounded.

Comparing a serial to a film (i.e. not a movie-- Blade Runner is a film) is highly questionable.

I get your point though. It stands.

Will Blade Runner 2049 be a film or a movie...I think its going to be a really awesome badass fucking movie. Films and sci-fi haven't been together in arguably some decades now.

Would the first Matrix qualify as a film? Yeah, if you have to think about it, that's a no.

Good catch, I didn't click the link. The 70's flick having a 67% rating definitely made me think "oh that must be the show, the Westworld movie can't be that highly rated".

This mistake just reinforces his point.

So... The first time I watched this movie, the original, theatrical cut, I fell asleep. Bored. Thought it was terrible. Bland. Basic. Then I watched it again. And again. And again. Then I watched the Director's Cut and wondered what the fuck was wrong with it. Then I watched the Final Cut and realized why. The DC fucks up the music, but adds the unicorn scene, and the extra scene where you can clearly see the yellow aura in Deckard's eyes (the theatrical cut has one scene that barely hints at the yellow aura in his eyes). The Final Cut keeps the original music, and adds the extra scenes.

Deckard is a Replicant. But he's not designed like Roy Batty's character. He doesn't have super human intellect or strength. A candle that burns twice as bright... The toy maker, a human that we're never really directly misled as being a replicant, but also weird af enough for you to make you think he might be.

You can find evidence of Ford's character being a replicant all over the God damn movie. The black and white, generic photos, the piano that he doesn't know how to play, the lack of a solid memory, or back story. What the fuck was he doing before he got called in? Why is everyone going off planet?

It's too bad she won't live, but then again, who does? Except she will, because she's designed just like Deckard. Not super strong or smart, just the right amount of "human" to question their own existence.

Shit makes you think.

My major qualms with the new film, is the discernable difference in theme. The original is dark, constantly wet, raining. Now we're seeing deserts, daytime, orange color schemes, and general brightness.

The only hope I have is that I'm a Ryan Gosling fan boy, and loved most of his recent works. Ford is literally going to be the biggest problem with this film, just like Force Awakens.

He's not a replicant, Ridley Scott is a fucking retard. I bet he pronounces it 'jif', too.

I have always been in the camp that he is not a replicant - despite the evidence and statements from Scott. I think that him actually not being a replicant enforces the plot and thoughts about what is life etc. moreso than just trying a stupid "mind blown!" G-IF that omgz he is a replicantz alsosz - that there are "replicant things" and evidence in a real human- actually blurs the line more than not
