Best part is the person commenting about male favoritism has an Astolfo avatar.

For those uninitiated:

Honestly people just need to be paid on their ability to complete the work asked of them.

If you're thinking about hiring, or giving someone a promotion, or extra bonuses based on anything other than the work they complete, you're already fucking up your job.
Problem is, even if you remove 'diversity' from the equation, you're still having middle management that acts like assholes to their subordinates.

Race/gender has nothing to do with middle managers acting like pieces of shit to their subordinates. It's a tale as old as time. Just with 2021 politics, you're forced to consider gender/race/etc when doing so, so that you DON'T piss off people that will go to news media source, twitter, etc, and complain.

But actually considering that leads to accusations that you are doing so, because it's impossible to say you aren't playing favorites on gender or race when you start including something like gender or race into consideration for promotions/hires.

Blizzard committing to hire 50% 'diverse' hires means that they aren't solely considering the persons' ability to do the job, communicate with their coworkers, and not be an asshole when bringing them on board. That's a problem.

Also I think that should be illegal - but isn't - they're basically openly discriminating who may apply for their jobs based on race and gender.

Ion interview with Venturebeat

bullet Points

  • The team created an internal process for employees to flag pieces of the game for review that haven't aged well or could be seen as offensive, and a diverse group reviewed them for change.
  • These changes did not take away from development time and would likely have gone unnoticed if they weren't spotlighted from datamining.
  • The team understands that they aren't fixing systemic injustice by these changes, but why not do it in tandem with working on larger cultural community.
  • The WoW team is also working closesly with the Overwatch team to try and catch toxicity in game right away without relying so much on manual reporting.
  • In the end, the team wants WoW to be a positive place to escape the trials and tribulations of the world.
  • Diversity makes a better game. They don't want WoW to be for a niche audience.
  • There has been a lot of work towards allowing more open communication and feedback within the team about things going into the game.
  • 9.1.5 was born out of the team being allowed to pitch ideas and try out things that they think will make the game more fun.
  • Ion acknowledges that they should have reacted to player feedback earlier about conduit energy, and knows that they can do better about communicating not only that we are being heard, but why things are not necessarily implemented or changed right away.
  • 9.1.5 reflects a shift toward more accessibility and letting go of old lessons instilled on the team from the past that don't necessarily reflect the way that the game is enjoyed today.
  • Cross-faction raiding is a bit more on the radar now. If Jaina and Thrall are working together, why can't the players?
  • They will be talking about the conclusion of Shadowlands in more detail in the future.
  • 9.2 is coming, and we will hear about it soon. They have much more planned after that, but it's hard to say too much more without spoiling some of the story that is coming.
  • At this point, your characters are heroes and there is no way that they can go back to being anonymous adventurers, but the team also wants to go back to simple core fantasy and not so much more escalating cosmic adventures.
  • The team wants to keep expanding on ways to better use what they have built over the years into the game, but it's not quite there yet.
  • There really isn't a time when the game becomes so old that a reboot is needed. However, they need to be mindful of bloat.

What I would like to know is that if diversity makes a better game then why is it declining in subs? should it not be surging with all this diversity that they are trying to push?

So lets make it exactly like real life. God these people are all utter fucking retards and exist merely by feasting on the corpse of something they cant comprehend.

This is just disingenuous, enough autists play WoW that people would have noticed. Assholes are trying to downplay annoyance from the community pretty hardcore here.

Ion should of been fired long ago what a worthless piece of shit. I hope he runs into some homeless hobo taking a shit on the Blizzard sidewalk on his way to work and the hobo stabs him in the stomach and says lessons learned.

I can picture Ion doing that thing where he looks up and to the side while bullshit spills out of his mouth, eyes not fully open.

So basically, they are going to turn WoW into FF14 without the FF14 freedoms of expression.

Pretty sure I've read that a few times before(replacing conduit energy with whatever other bullshit mechanic).

I'll highlight two points from Ion's interview that already show they are going down the wrong rabbit hole:

1. "The WoW team is also working closesly with the Overwatch team to try and catch toxicity in game right away without relying so much on manual reporting."

No, this automated shit will never fly, and things like Youtube prove it.
You need hands-on game masters tasked to investigate toxicity, botting and the rampant boost advertising in the LFG tool. Also, these support people need game-specific knowledge. You can't hire them from an Indian service company.

2. "There has been a lot of work towards allowing more open communication and feedback within the team about things going into the game."

No, you should've worked to allow more open communication and feedback with your playerbase. Using Twitter to tell other people "That guy's an asshole" about your biggest Twitch streamer is also not "communicating," by the way. What does it help if you keep sniffing the farts within your ivory tower, you need to touch some grass ASAP.

3. "Ion acknowledges that they should have reacted to player feedback earlier about conduit energy"

At this point I think the old 4chan leak from 2021 was real: They have no one that understands what draws people to FFXIV, and the only thing management seems to understand and pushes are the "mobile game style retention traps" to keep the MAU up and force players to log in.

Ion is someone interested in raids, and as a game director he has no interest in this "open world thing", except to funnel players into raids and M+. And it shows that he has no idea how to develop the game any further, except: "For the next expansion we need four leveling zones, quests to fill the experience bar and reputation bars to grind. Give them transmogs and mounts, bitches love transmogs and mounts!"

"Reacted earlier" means "communicating that players have been heard" and "explaining why things are not implemented right away".

Note that there is nothing about actually DOING the feedback. So it's a politian answer and buisness as usual.

The company I work for keeps pushing this diversity shit so hard, but the funny part is even the diversity hires are tired of hearing about it. They've done 3 surveys on the company now and all 3 were at damn near -100% on the diversity shit and they still keep pushing it.

It's absolutely bizarre seeing so much time and effort being put towards diversity rather than the product and how to improve the new factory which has tons of faults and issues. They just keep doubling down even though the CEO acknowledges that they are getting tons of feedback to back off of it, lol.

A company as large as Blizzard certainly has dozens and dozens of people whose only job is to push diversity. To escape diversity you need to be working for small non tech companies with 100-200 employees top.

It's because the people in charge of that horseshit need excuses to justify their bullshit jobs. Once "diversity" has been achieved, what's the point of having them around? So, they'll just keep tilting at windmills for eternity.

You are right. It's one thing to respond to feedback, it's an entirely another matter to act on it which ion has no intention of doing. They are still going to do their old ways, and let Ion lawyer speak his way around it.

If you read between the lines of Ion's lawyer-speak, it is fucking obvious:

"We can’t just open up a position, take the first couple dozen resumes, look through them, and pick someone out of that pile, because we may just get a couple dozen white male resumes. And it’s not that we wouldn’t hire someone who’s qualified for the job. We will. But we’ll be limiting the range of perspectives that come to our team."

Translation: We get diversity hires forced down our throat because big Bobby said so. Therefore we'll make sure to only hire yes-womxn that don't challenge us or any of our ideas.
