They didn't get the boot. They asked to be removed from the BCS.
The person I mentioned votes AP now but voted "by proxy" the coaches poll for years.

Well at least Georgia won.
So, I watched the entire Alabama vs Auburn game with a friend of mine who went to Alabama and thus of course heavily roots for them. There were some very interesting referee calls in this game that made me wonder if they had a super secret camera they used for reviews. But since it seemed to go both ways, we just shrugged it off.
Then comes the final play. Alabama got their one second. Finally the review system worked properly. So what did the head coach decide to do with this precious 1 second...kick a 57 yard field goal with a kicker who had already missed 3 of them that day from much closer distances. My friend and I both were like WTF???? So, we figure oh well, on to over time we go.
....... That goes down as one of the best endings to a college football game ever. It was awesome watching how the Alabama offense just stood there watching the football and not seeing the loan runner waiting for it under the goal posts. By the time Auburn received the ball, Auburn was more than ready to block the stunned Alabama team who was not ready. My friend could not speak for like a full minute. I am not kidding. Hell my mouth was ajar for a solid 10 seconds after Auburn scored.
Hats off to Auburn for calling the play and executing it to perfection. That was awesome to behold.

Here's an odd stat. ESPN just said there have only been 4 missed FG's returned for a touchdown in NCAA history. Two of which happened this year and both in the SEC. Maybe I missed something but that just doesn't seem right. Maybe they meant 4 times it has been returned 100 yards to win the game.
Alabama used a different kicker for their last field goal. Apparently he was their long distance FG kicker.
It makes a lot of sense. 57 yards isn't an atrocious distance, even if it's 20% that's way better than a hail Mary. Playing the odds.
