I don't really agree with that line of thinking. the problem with "first order strategy's" is twofold; they generally take away options.
But they don't really take away options. You can still smoke the game with crazy damage using Verso, Sciel, Lune, and Morroco. They all have insane capabilities. Once you get Chevalam on Verso, you can turn 1 Phantom Stars and wipe out an entire fucking screen of mobs.

Finished the game today. Incredible experience; just over 50 hours for 99% complete on Expeditioner difficulty.

You're a better man than me. Just started Act 3, doing the optional stuff for companion rep and just getting absolutely socked on the easiest difficulty. I just have so much trouble getting past a lot of the fights with like 10 different attacks, all with feints,etc. I'm sure I have to level and gear up a bit more for the optional stuff, so I'll go back to the main quest :p

Same thing happened to me on my first playthrough. Now on my second, it is going a lot easier since I am aware of more Picto/Lumina combinations to build for, and now I'm at Sirene with zero issues at all (not that Act 1 - 2 has any real difficulty).

Beat it today with 52 hours played, but did all the side content/bosses and probably had around 4-5 hours of AFK time in there.

Easily my GOTY and definitely the best game since ER. #Renoirwasright and if you picked the Maelle ending you're a sadistic piece of shit.

P.S. Lune with cheater, elemental trick, and elemental genesis carried hard for me. I never used the busted Stendahl stuff, just blasted the fuck out of things with Lune.

This is probably the best game i’ve ever played, saying that as an adult who doesn’t play anything much anymore. In fucking sane. Music and story are like 100/10, combat being like 7/10 but shit who cares with all that other greatness.

Please lord let this studio put out a sequel that’s even half as good. Writers vs musicians?

If you do it 33 (34?) times they finally say oh it was a turn on to have you listening at first but now it's wierd and please go away. It gives you one of those max lumina booster things that are limited to come by.

So limited I spent most of the game sitting on 100+ unused. You will not care about that one single point when you finally come up against an act 3 miniboss that actually requires you to use some.

I went back through the early areas after unlocking the paint spike destruction, and I had missed sooooo much stuff ( not related to the spikes ).

I somehow managed to miss both dead energy and dead energy 2, which would have saved so much time in the early game ;p

I didn't unlock the paint spike ability until Act 3, I really over-estimated how hard it was to rescue enough gimps to unlock it. Took like 2 minutes lol

Yea I saved 1 because I thought it was a hard quest. Missed all the secrets it seems lol.

This is personal preference, and totally a me problem and not them, but by Act 3 I was really wishing there was a way to just make is turn based without constantly having to learn new patterns of dodge/parry. Old school Lunar Silver Star style :p

Still a 99/100 for me though, glad I bought it. Can't believe it wasn't 'full' price.

paper mario/sea of stars. I like timing mechanics in turn based games. but not like this.
those are timing for bonuses, and the game wants you to suceed.

this game is time it, or die. and then the game intentionally has pauses, delays, attacks that do 1, 2 or 3 in succession. which you have to wrote memorize the tells after dieing 10 times to it first. its not fun. and kills the pacing/storytelling as you retry every boss 20 times. so unless thats going to be a plot point. shit is retarded.

map design seems to have serous problems with: left or right? which is loot, which is progression. and the constant backtracking as you decide which is which.

yea the no minimap is silly, i thought it was fine to not have one in tsushima, b/c it's just land/grass and a village which is easy to navigate. in here it's really horrible not to have a map b/c you can easily get lost and fustrated w/ all mountains and climbing and hookshotting and literally going up and down virtual chroma cables. i get what theyre trying to do, but they should have more "definable" landmarks instead of just a big rock here and a biggerer rock over there.

it's just like, i love my bae lune, but i'm fucking colorblind, and yes i did use the colorblind option and put it to max 10/10 and it helped a little. whats worse is that when i turn on colorblind settings i almost see the colors, but my wife can't see shit cuz of the whacky colors so i have to set it to normal and shes like "oh yea, thats red or lightning"

whats annoying is that they could have easily remedied this by keeping the icons, when you cast a lune spell, the stains flash an icon leaf/lightning bolt for 1second, heh, thats how i've been playing her is remembering what icons flash

Just download the mod for easier timings and just find your own balance of face tanking or dodging and just enjoy the story. Your not wrong, I find it kinda frustrating as well. But the novelty of the game/world outweighs it enough for me.
