Coffee bros help me out. I've never been a coffee person, though i do like the occasional cup with a bit of sugar. I keep a Keurig at home more for guests than for myself. A big part of it has to do with not liking hot beverages in general. Lately I've gotten in the habit of grabbing cold brew at a local shop and really want to explore how to integrate that into my morning routine (without the stop and cost every morning). eli5 cold brew at home. I'm hearing I should pickup the OXO cold brew on amazon, a whatever cheap grinder, and bag of cheap medium roast from costco (cold brew uses more beans than hot? and less forgiving of cheap beans?). Steep for 12 hours then fridge the carafe. In the morning pour 6oz into a travel mug with another 6oz of cold water and a shot of creamer, all over ice.

That somehow doesn't sound right to me but what the hell do i know. Let me know your thoughts!

There’s a couple different methods for cold brew. Either you make the concentrate and dilute, or you do the slow drip Kyoto method. Or you’re lazy and make an iced americano. Which would involve getting an espresso machine or similar and putting some shots in ice water.

I don’t have one, but I thought I heard that Ninja Luxe Cafe can do a fast cold brew in addition to all the espresso stuff

Machine is pricey though - I see it on sale at Costco sometimes but it’s still around $500

It might be cold-brew sacrilege, but if you just don't like hot things, make hot coffee and put it in the fridge? Not sure why, but I've never liked cold brews, but cold coffee that was hot brewed is still good.

Cold brew is different than iced coffee. Cold tends to not be as bitter or acidic because of how it is made

But it’s personal preference in the end

I have that exact cold brewer and it works well, but is a bit messy with the cleanup. If you don't like a bit of grinds in your coffee, use the optional paper disc filters. They are the same size as Aeropress filters. It does make good cold brew, but I usually let it go for close to 24 hours. The concentrate is nice as you can dilute it to whatever strength you prefer. I don't use it much anymore as I got a Fellow Aiden as it makes good cold brew in 90 minutes. It starts with hot water to wet the coffee, then warm water for the rest of the brew time. It doesn't come out as a concentrate though.

I would buy good, but not expensive coffee to brew in it. Cold brew loses some of the more subtle flavors of specialty/expensive coffees due to the long brew time so it's just not worth it. it does use more coffee than regular brewing as the low temp doesn't extract as much from the grounds. I stick to the 2.5/1 ratio of coffee to water. Weigh out your grounds and water to make it easier to reproduce your results as you tweak things to your liking.

I have that machine at my office - it makes a reasonable espresso (though for not much more $ you can easily find a used Gaggia and DF54 flat burr grinder that's quite a bit better). It's super easy and convenient to dial in shots that you get maybe 70% of the taste in a fraction of the time (not to mention bean wasting dialing in a real espresso machine). The cold brew on it though is incredibly hit or miss. Some days it just works (I use the same beans), and some days it's not very good at all. Still, better by far than a Keurig or even nespresso. It's biggest issue imo is price like you say. It's about $150 too expensive imo.
