He also loved Alan Wake 2, so take his opinion with a 2-ton block of salt.
Yeah he's kind of a hit and miss lately. I don't watch a lot of his reviews anymore but I know sometimes there's a game that's coming out that I'm somewhat interested in I'll at least check out his stuff because he's somewhat tolerable, but since his YouTube Fame has kicked in, I find myself just having to skip through or shutting the video down.

Also don't care if you got every stupid steam achievement, those are for fags.

The ACG neck beard is sometimes okay but I can't stand his stupid humor that he tries to write into all of his scripts, but I do like his format and the fact that he actually talks about music / sound in games. If he got rid of his stupid humor he'd probably be the best out there at least in my eyes.

My biggest problem with Alan Wake 2 was it wasn't Alan wake , it was a QTE game posing as Alan Wake.

I'm 21 hours in Control Resonant. Not sure what the big patch today will change but I think I'm nearing the end. The mobs are repetitive. They go 'up' in level but that just means they are damage sponges. I do like the flying around like Neo in the matrix and the weird really fucked up areas though. Not sure I'll play again unless there is some massive DLC but I don't feel like I wasted my money. Only real issue I've had with the whole game was landing some of the tricky jumps/dodges. Also only CTD once.

Not really, no. Control had gameplay and powers that were kind of similar to Infamous, but for some reason Remedy decided Resonant should be some sort of melee-focused abomination.

The upgrade system is horrific to be certain. I think they mean for it to have replayability what with all the different choices you have to make, but for a single go-through you end up missing more than half the abilities / weapons.

The plotline reinforces the whole notion that Jesse/Dylan are one person who got split so I suppose there's hope for a trilogy conclusion where they are unified back into a single person who is a badass.

So no lifting up chunks of concrete and hurling them at mobs?
Well not chunks but one of the powers is to hurl blocks of material at mobs, up to 3 total. I would use it for mobs that were too far away to hit with the melee weapon. I guess Remedy saw all the souls like and decided to join suit? The power I used the most was a shield that I could make explode around me for area damage.

Just finished the game. I'm not sure I'll ever play it again. There were whole levels (including the last one) that did nothing but piss me off. It's part of the story that they look alike but it's all twisty upsidedownsideways and it all looks the same. I had to constantly look up walkthroughs on my other monitor. On a game I am really enjoying (ER for example) I'm fine being lost but jumping around trying to find a fucking balloon that may be wayyyy over there upside down and getting constantly attacked by spore/chemical mobs is not my idea of a good time. Only reason I didn't quit and not finish is I bought it for full price.

It looked amazing , I have a 7800X3D and a 7900XTX , playing at 4K with FMR and was in the 80 frames. 40odd native. Sound was good , only 1 crash pre-patch. If I had to give it a number it would be maybe 70/100.

I'd recommend buying on sale if it perks your interest.

yeah she has a man jaw & they somehow made her uglier. Also regardless of hair/accessories you picked the guy had like a potato head, like a russet baking potato. His head and chin were small with giant cheeks. Really weird looking. I decided to embrace the crazy and my guy was running around in his underwear with no shirt , green hair and rings in his nose/ears.

The stroller chasing and electrical charging mini games make me want to find someone on the development team and beat them with my controller.
Yes, I have anger issues.
They are fucking terrible with narrow time windows and are easily fucked up by over/under shooting jumps or the controls just not working. The double jump to glide can be finicky.
Devs talk about “inclusion” then throw in high reflex requirement shit like that, fucking morons.
Getting older and slower doesn’t help, obviously, but if you have attempted the later versions of these two mini games you know what I am talking about.

Just as soon as I realized the stroller chasing was optional I said out loud 'fuck that', agree with the jumping. When you are down in the well and have to get out the 1st time I almost uninstalled the whole damn game. You have to hover and try to triple jump, how is that fun?

I didn't have a problem with the strollers or the electrical charging encounters, but I am really, really fucking hating when you kill a resonant and the world "levels up" and all the mobs are tougher, nastier, have a ton more HP, there's twice as many in each encounter, and your abilities barely incrementally get a teensy tiny bit better.

Finally got to play this game (I waited for the physical release which was stupidly 3 weeks after the digital release), and I just finished it 100% with all trophies.

I had enjoyed Control tremendously, and also enjoyed Control 2 tremendously, but the games feel quite different in some aspects.

Loooong detailed review below but there's no spoilers!

While Control was quite unique (or at least I'd never played anything like it before), Control 2 is at the same time similar to various open-world games with tasks and missions to complete in every area like we've seen before, and different because of its uniquely Control thing, which also gives it a kind of Metroivania vibe because you'll have to keep returning to previously explored areas once you obtain new traversal abilities. The combat itself is very different from the first game which was mostly run and gun, this time it's melee only (mostly, there's summons you can use for ranged abilities) and the game gave me huge Prototype vibes due to the nature and numbers of the enemies, the way you hop all over the city to fight them, and the shapeshifting weapon at your disposal, which reminded me of Alex Mercer's morphing abilities in that game.

I played this game mostly for the story (both the overarching story and the tidbits of AWE/Bureau lore you find all over the game) and wasn't disappointed, the stakes are high, and I was really pleased by how it all went. I think the ending hints towards a sequel, and there's definitely some unanswered questions by the end of the story, but I felt this game advanced the story quite a lot and filled a lot of the backstory we had only gotten hints about in Control, so it felt right.

About Zoe, I saw a lot of complaints in this thread but I didn't mind her character. I mean yes she's not a hot chick and yes she's bossy early on (which is kind of normal since her job is giving you missions and being your handler, and you being an extremely dangerous prisoner), but I felt as the game goes on and you interact with her more and more she got a lot nicer and funnier (that may depend on your interactions though, since you can choose various dialogue options or remain silent, perhaps other choices make her bitchier I don't know). I can see why some of the more.. sensitive people about the topic would think she's a "girlboss" (though she doesn't have any special abilities and doesn't fare in combat any better than other random ranger NPCs) but I didn't mind at all because I felt Dylan is a really.. bland character initially. When the game begins, he's very aloof and kind of unmotivated by anything except finding Jesse, so it made sense for me in the story that she has to literally shake him by the shoulders to get him over the radio to get him to do stuff. Somewhere along the game, Dylan finds some balls and by the end you can see he has had quite a character arc, which I liked a lot since the character was really despicable and pathetic at the same time in Control.

On PS5, the game had a few slowdowns when I was zooming around at superspeed in the busiest areas of the city and jumping around a lot, but overall it wasn't too bad. I got zero crashes in about 40 hours it took me to get the platinum trophy.

One important thing that maybe not everyone is aware of, you can change a lot of the game settings in "Assist Mode" in the Options. I felt the game was waaaay too hard waaay too early on (the first boss especially comes out of nowhere very early and takes like half of your health in one shot), and I felt I was doing too little damage to the enemies (especially as the zones "leveled up" as someone above said already). So after hitting my face against that wall a few times, I went into Assist Mode and changed the damage taken setting and damage done setting to make the experience more enjoyable. There's even options to have one-hit kills and be invincible if you're so inclined. I didn't go full-on God Mode but I definitely made the game easier because I wanted to experience the story without frustration, and I felt it was more in line with Dylan's apparent abilities that he do a lot more damage than the "normal" gameplay was letting me do. I'd recommend using that if you're having trouble but like the game.

Sorry about the wall of text, but it was quite a dense game and I think there was a lot to say about it.

And this time, some MASSIVE spoilers, thoughts about the game story.

- I was a bit disappointed that we barely get any Ahti in this game. You can interact with "him" a few times as a sprite in the 2D video game section near the end of the game, he's his usual mysterious self. And you get a postcard from him at the very end (Season's Greetings), but I thought we'd get to know where he'd disappared off to at the end of Control. Hopefully he'll be in Control 3.

- The game definitely goes further than Control into the theory that "something" happened in Ordinary that made one Faden kid into two. There's several documents found in the game that go that way, plus the whole segment about Dylan remembering his mom, his dad and himself and no mention of a sister. And there's a whole Hiss-Dylan quote from Control that had him say he had a dream where he was a girl named Jesse Dylan Faden and how it's kind of funny that Jesse and Dylan can be girl or boy names. Also in the 2D video game section, there's the mother saying she only remembers having one child (the dad doesn't), and the grandmother's letter asking WTF the dad means when he says BOTH kids are fine. It was a really interesting direction to explore, but I hope we get a complete resolution in the third game.

- I didn't really like Emily Pope's change in appearance but I guess seven years have passed so it's understandable. I kind of liked how as the game goes on you get more and more hints that she's in love with Jesse, I liked the character in Control and in Control Resonant so I liked that angle. And she always looked like a lesbian so it didn't come out as a big surprise.

- I had a blast with Langston's cat-entity storyline, most of the artifacts that ran away are pretty cool too (fuck that camera though). I also loved Fra/Fred's storyline, it was funny that a comedic throwaway character from Control ended up being a major threat to the Bureau's stability (even though I don't think Fra/Fred was doing it out of malice, he's just.. Fra).

- There were some pretty horrifying moments in the experiments lore and the random diaries and documents you find across the city. The experiments you have to shut down eventually lead you into a threshold where people ended up turning into random appliances or died of thirst/starvation when they were stuck behind tape lines for fear of turning. There was also the dig site experiment with the cute baby parasite that made your head explode. There were also funny ones though, the astral-dog was a cute thing to do in every zone.
