If they wanted this to be GTA 2077, I think they would have built the map differently. A lot of the volume comes from the different floors in at least some of the buildings. And, since I doubt we’ll be driving inside the buildings, that doesn’t leave enough space for a GTA type game.

I’m hopeful that the driving here will play a similar role to riding your horse in Witcher 3: transportation and immersion. It’ll just be a lot more fun.
I just hope the elevator has some great hits like GTA, then.

I wonder if Eidos is planning on making another Deus Ex game?
I hope not. HR was okay but MKD was so forgettable I stopped playing in 2 hours into it and this is coming from a person whose favorite game ever is the original.

I think a lot of people are going to be looking forward to collecting, stealing, buying, racing, painting, and modifying cars. How many story missions will be tied into driving and shooting from the cars. I think a lot. Robbing tech, banks, and the like, mission. The map looks like a GTA map to me, with main highways, and small rural places. They have said that you won't just be inside night city all the time. Beyond the city you'll find the Badlands, a district filled with ruins and largely abandoned after droughts and other crises.

is this game basically a GTA 5 set in the future, with Witcher 3 quality of storytelling?

I'm not going to hate GTA 2077. Just didn't expect it.

The combat was never going to be anything special. Not sure why any of you thought it would be. I fully expect first-person melee to be fairly lol. Just like it always us. Not going to stop me from playing gorilla handed supermech and smashing skulls tho!

That is the vibe I'm getting. Mix in the Deux Ex Style of narrative with multiple routes to resolve missions.

Not like where you make a linear choice and it changes the ending of the quests (but it'll have that too) but where you get choices on how to execute it. Like in their example of the turf war with the roid rage bois. You can be a super strength roid rage yourself and tear out doors and whatever or a silent hacker super-specialist and quietly enter and leave with nobody the wiser.

Honest question...how do you even make an open world game with cars set in a city environment and not have it compared to GTA?

The GTA moment was when the trailer showed gameplay revolving around carjacking.

Personally I just wanted this and I don't think this vibe and asthetic is still in the game. GTA in rundown LA (aka Cyberpunk 2020) just looks very different to this.

Again, unless the game changes quite a bit after 5 hours, none of the youtubers I follow who've played this up through the first 5 hours (granted, not a ton of time to be fair) have compared this to GTA at all. It might end up opening into that, but the first 5 hours at least, from the big youtube game reviewers who've played it, say it's a narrative, focused RPG with open world elements. If Witcher 3 is RDR2 like, than I guess this is GTA V like? Still not seeing it, other than a few random youtube moments.

This from Miles Tost, lead designer of the game:

“Our game will provide a lot of side activities for you to engage in outside the main quest.” Tost told the site. “Whether it’s side quests or encounters waiting for you on the streets of Night City, it will be crafted by us with a lot of love and care.”

He added, “Whilst it’s very humbling to us to have our game be compared to GTA, with Cyberpunk 2077, we are striving for a different, story-driven experience. That’s not to say we will stop players from goofing around.”

Either way, my hype meter is full and there is nothing that would change that now.

Started a Neuromancer re-read (just finished Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep), bought the Cyberpunk book (it's really well done) and will start movie re-watches in a few weeks (Bladerunners, Akira, etc). My wife is 39 weeks pregnant and even that ain't moving this train from the tracks.

pretty sure the gta comparison is because it's an open world game set in a city and you can drive. i can see why people make the comparison, but i also think this and gta are far enough removed that it's not really an accurate comparison

Its a testament to Rockstar and what they have been able to achieve with the GTA franchise.

I have played since GTA 1, with the 2d overhead graphics. It was a totally different experience, but the enjoyment of being able to freely explore a bustling city, jack cars, shoot people for no reason, run over chain gangs for points, outrun 3 star cop chases, and ultimately complete the quirky and sometimes ridiculous storyline quests was unmatched by anything before in a video game. At the end of the day I played GTA 1 for countless hours, and never could have imagined what GTA 5 has become.

So yeah, being compared to such a monumental franchise is a positive in every way. I mean, fuck, GTA 5 came out , what SEVEN years ago? Its not like Rockstar just dropped a GTA game and Cyberpunk released a knock off clone soon after or something. If anything they filled the fucking void. Where is GTA 6?

GTA4 and RDR2 were their worst games. I really hated a lot about GTA4.
