It's basically when someone in PVP gets on your back and you can't shake them. So they get a bunch of free back hits on you and you die.

Damn, the way they used it made it sound like it was some kind of mechanic. Does this really happen enough for it be to a term there? Only really keyboard turners would be susceptible to this, unless there are mechanics in that game that make it possible?

Getting hit drains your stamina which stops you from being able to run away. That mechanic is why people are able to stickyback.

So what's up? For those actually playing the current build of the game, is it time to fire it up and try it? I've been casually following this game for years and have been waiting for it to achieve a playable state. I love the concept and the ideas, but just from keeping track of DF threads from the foh days this game has never seemed legit enough to sink my time into. Has the time finally come?

It has its flaws but the pvp combat is great and the servers are mostly stable. If you dont mind that fact that you pretty much have to join a clan to play and that the skill grind can be pretty boring at times then its fun. The grind to the point where you have a semi viable pvp character isn't that long tho. A week or two of casual play and you won't be fodder anymore. A few more weeks after that and you will have mostly maxed your first role.

Game is launching on steam today too apparently.

Everyone runs at the same speed, if I am in melee range of you and every time you turn I turn just as quickly and in the same direction as you did then you will not get out of range of me and I can continue to hit you in the back. If you successfully juke me and I don't turn in the same direction as you I will get out of range and no longer be able to hit you. It has nothing to do with being stam drained as Agripa said.

I heard the steam thing, that's why I'm asking. Describe these flaws. How's the pve aspect of the game? Is there a board clan?

Video of us in a 6v9 against undead army last night, good vid from the perspective of our skirmisher.

@Arden, the game is still really light on features for anyone who doesn't want to primarily pvp. They haven't really fleshed out the gatherer roles at all. The alignment system also doesnt do anything so there is nothing to discourage RPKing and encourage people to atleast try to be social. Markets are coming soon which will be a huge boost to crafters atleast.

I do know guys who sit around fishing all day looking from treasure maps tho because its a great source of money lol

The PvE might keep you entertained for a couple weeks. Monsters can be pretty mean if you aren't geared or have low stats or don't have a party, but there's nothing challenging about the AI. Despite many heralding it as a sandbox game, you'll find more prefabricated plastic toys than sand. If you aren't interested in PvP, this game is not for you.

If you're looking for a persistent world FFA (more or less) PvP game with a decent economy, consequences, character development, and fun FPS combat, then DF is worth a try.

Also, allow me to reiterate the idea that clans are necessary to play the game. If you leave the protected zone solo, especially as a newbie, you will die and it you will die fast because you will be outnumbered. Clans are recruiting on the DF boards and in-game. Find one ASAP. Like Creslin said, there's no good reason for people to be social outside the safe zone (an alignment system isn't worth the headaches it would cause imo).

Edit: I don't think atrue newbiecould come close to maxing out a role playingcasuallyin a month unless he's neglecting stats. He could certainly be competitive though.

Anyone in a clan that's recruiting NA Westcoast tz? Looking to get out of the noob area as some have stated... it's killing the fun.

I'm playing with a friend of mine, we've yet to leave the protected areas to get our tradeskills up to make gear we will lose when we do get out and about. I could see this game being infinitely better with a ping under 310 though.

For those who are playing, how is the game going? I was watching a stream and it reminded me of Shadowbane with the open world PvP.

its going alright. The world is filled with people and you can find constant PvP. Right now the biggest problem facing the game is that building costs were increased 3x from what they were and this has led to basically noone building up cities because of the cost. With no value in cities, theres few sieges and next to no politics going on which a game like this absolutely needs.

Yeah it's a shame too because the new siege mechanics are actually really good.
i dont like that sieges get shown on the in game map and are announced globally. it should be up to the guilds involved to let people know.

Really adds a new element to both PvE and PvP when you can damage/kill your party members, and heal the enemy. Quite enjoying this game.
