Everquest 3 will just be regular Everquest except with built in MQ2 and you can pay an additional 15 dollars per alt to have them logged in running on their built in MQ2 software so there isn't any 3rd party software needed.

Yup. The game is also a business that has shareholders the company has to answer to. They allowed emus until emus started to (or appeared to) affect the bottom line. Running an unlicensed emu has always been a stupid thing to do, for this exact reason. Now there is going to be another explicit precedent for other companies to have in their arsenal to do this faster and harder in the future.
Pro tip: Making a live copy of a game that is still in active service without permission has a real chance to get your life buttraped.

Nobody has fucking heard of THJ outside the EQ community. THJ did nothing that 1000s of emulators haven't done for decades.
The negative PR has nothing to do with THJ, it has to do with how shit a company DBG is.
DBG won't start to bounce back because THJ wasn't the problem, it was a solution to the problem that DBG created.
Any company that thinks "gee we should've stopped this sooner" instead of "gee we shouldn't put out such low quality content" is doomed to fail. They will be just as irrelevant to the larger gaming industry as Daybreak is.

Rockstar however made the smart move of simply buying them out instead of suing the people they felt were infringing their IP.
Edit: If your company with a 7-8 figure budget is losing large amounts of players to a dozen people with basically no budget the problem is your company, not the dozen people humiliating your failure of a company.

If they had let THJ continue with their road map and innovation the THJ guys would have been making 2 million dollars a year before to long. They knew exactly what they where doing and got paid as such. The new content on the horizon would have drawn in more players. They where selling Plat under the vail of a gift for donations.

One time I bought a manastone with plat from my main (legit plat), gave the seller his money, and asked him to give it to my lvl 1 I had parked.
5 mins after a GM came to ask about this, and once he understood the way the deal worked I never heard from it again.
I had an account with like 20k plat on red, and bought 2 fungi's and like 10 other top end items from a guy on red named Sektor, who was getting wed and simply posted about what items he wanted to RMT. Payment had to be in Bed, bath and beyond items. I remember buying him a george foreman grill.

And filing a lawsuit is still the wrong play for DBG. Suing THJ isn't going to bring 90% of those players back, most of those players are just going to one of the thousands of other video game options instead.
1) A smart play is to buyout or profit share with THJ.
2) Another smart play is to threaten and lawsuit and hope THJ cucks out like Secrets did.
3) The best play is to just see what THJ did, copy it and put out a better version of it because you have10X the budget of THJ.
The rest of the industry has basically been doing those 3 things for the past decade. Suing your fans isn't going to be beneficial to Daybreak. Daybreak got conned by a lawyer, they're the only real winners in this lawsuit.

The worst thing, even more than staff getting kickbacks to allow RMT on p99, is the devs and GMs playing the servers.
For our efforts of exposing corruption in their ranks, people they protected until it was impossible and forcing them to deal with the community to answer for it? They were incredibly hostile and rude.
We gave them way too many chances. They will change the stupid raid rules even up to the point of giving away freebies (to the guilds the staff plays in) after promising not to do so.

daybreak sells plat, apparently P99 sells plat, i'm pretty sure every EMU sells plat because you fucking idiots buy it, but this server literally could have been 100% offline stand alone with no internet required to play and been the exact same experience, it is the only server ever to not sell plat.
You morons gave your money in perhaps the one and only truly donation only server, nothing could be bought with your donation money.
