Again, stop thinking rationally - this isn't about revenue, it's corporate theater.

They're clutching at legal action because it looks decisive to non-gaming investors who don't understand the ecosystem. Going after "IP infringement" sounds like protecting valuable assets, when it's really just expensive procrastination.

Any pivot to revenue-sharing or cooperation would require admitting incompetence and failure, at least on some level. They cannot do that - not at any cost, as it would paint a target on them.

I've seen this before in failing publishers. If you know how they operate - this isn't the least bit surprising.
This is also about sending a message. We are hyper focused on the EQ aspect of all this, but they also have a lot of other IPs they don't want to have to worry about emulators on. If people are too scared about RL consequences it will have a significant chilling effect.

I doubt it will have a chilling effect.

In the long run? Maybe not. In the short run? It absolutely will. If there is no settlement the THJ devs are going to be put through the wringer. A lifetime of wage garnishment or chapter 7 and 7 years of eating shit. Are memberberries worth ruining your life over?

Ask yourself who is playing EMU everquest and you will find the answer.

Fair but honestly I dont see any of their games other than LOTRO due to the Tolkien license having a EMU audience.

I dont know if they are crazy enough to think that, the others might be right, its just a show for the money folk to keep the faucet on for now.

Its a sinking ship. the longer they can blame THJ and drag out the lawsuit the longer they keep the lights on.

It's crazy the mental gymnastics you guys are going through to convince yourself a bunch of 2 digit IQ diversity hires are playing 4d Chess.

I too hope that this stunt by Daybreak kills EverQuest as well. EQ needs to be put out of its misery. Norrath will live on via Emu servers anyways.

It didn't have to be this way. None of it is the player's fault. It all goes back to Smedley who has not shipped a successful game since EverQuest 2 in 2004.

DCUO was 2011. and Smedley hasn't worked there since 2015, so no idea what point about any of that is

something funny that I dont think people realize, is that they've had "The Heroes Journey" on live servers when you login to a level 1 for a while I think
