Yeah, was a similar experience today on the other end for the hike. Looked like a no kings protest, but everyone was nice, picked up some trash, and learned about some native plants and birds. I guess it’s the Sierra Club, so not sure what else I expected, but still was fun, relaxing, got some sun and exercise and did some community service.
If you can, when you go on these outings, make it a goal to get at least one phone number of someone you think you maybe could be friends with (doesn't have to be 100%, just someone who isn't an annoying cunt).

Then make an effort to connect with that person at least once, and see if they reciprocate. If they don't, thats fine. If they do, you have a budding new friendship. Do this every time, and before you know it you'll have a circle of friends, you can introduce your other friends to each other and create new circles, and start doing events with your friends rather than doing events to meet friends.
