5.1 worked fine with my logitech speakers until they died. Using onboard on an x58 sabertooth board.
Funny you post this, I'm finally able to use my old Logitech Z-680's for the first time in 4 years and for the first time with new PC internals. My new motherboard (Asrock X99 Extreme4) doesn't have an older normal PCI slot for my sound card (HT Omega Striker), but I was able to get 5.1 working with optical out on the motherboard.

Just gave my old 6970 to a friend (yay gtx 970) and he has a 120hz monitor (lg w2363d) but he's telling me he's unable to set it over 60hz. I know I can do the atipixelpatcher thingie and create a custom resolution for him (used that for my Qnix), but I was expecting this to work without any patches.

Before my 6970 he had a 560 Ti that he said he was using over hdmi @ 120hz. I told him that's not possible, but he insists it worked before and the difference was noticeable. Gonna bug him to buy a dual-link dvi cable (no dp connection on that monitor).

Anyone have good luck with canned water coolers? Like this:Amazon.com: Cooler Master Seidon 240M - PC CPU Liquid Water Cooling System, All-In-One Kit with 240mm Radiator and 2 Fans: Computers Accessories

I need something to cool a 5820k, this look decent. Actually, this one is 7c cooler than air at my target OC. Are these things loud or problematic to use?
Those kits are great. No idea about that specific make/model but my brother uses a corsair h110 and only has good things to say about it.

We discussed these all-in-one liquid CPU cooling kits. The Corsair H100i (or was it the 110?) was apparently loud until they fixed the firmware; then I guess it quieted down.

I do also wish to know how good these are.

I have the H100i and swapped the stock fans for some quality ones. Pushes more CFM at half the dB. Unless it was pump noise? In which, I have never heard mine unless I stick my head inside the case. Fantastic piece of kit.

My 4770k on that cooler has been running at 4.5GHz for what is going on a couple years now 24/7.

I also have a Corsair H100i on my i5 3570K since November 2012. It's been clocked up from 3.4ghz to 4.8ghz that entire time, and I leave my computer on 24/7.

I did replace the 2 stock fans on the radiator with 4 aftermarket fans that were much quieter. The CPU stays damn cold even when gaming for hours. It idles at about 18-19c and if stress-tested with something like prime 95 for a few hours it still never goes over 70c, usually stays in the mid 60,s around 65-67c. And that is with my manually capping all of the fans at 50% RPM for noise purposes. I could keep it a little cooler if I let the fans spin up higher, but the CPU never breaks 70C so I'm fine with the temps that it runs at.

Its also quieter than just about every air cooling heat sink I've ever heard. The only noise that comes out of my PC at all are my video cards

joeboo, are those the cpu core temps ? I find it hard to believe it idles at 18-19c unless you have 10-15c in your room.

My H100i idles at around 30C these days on i5 2500k (my definition of idle though is like, a Twitch stream open, DOTA2 open, couple browser windows, etc... Haven't checked with -everything- closed in a long while). It's at 4.something and I know the option to throttle down was turned off, so it is constant max multiplier. Trying to type all this has made me realize it is probably time to do some maintenance and checking on the home pc. Been a long time but everything seems fine.

Yeah, you're right on. My PC is in my basement, and those temps were taken right after I built the PC, which was in November/December time of year. The basement stays around 60 degrees F year-round(which I love, as a fatass that is always hot), so yeah, ambient room temp is like 15c, and my case is a full tower with a massive amount of fans and airflow in it, and I went overboard on my radiator cooling with the 4 120mm fans(instead of stock 2 fans)

And yeah, idle(literally nothing running other than windows), I let my CPU clock down to like 1.6ghz. I'm sure idling at 4.8 would be a little warmer, but I let the CPU clock down to its manufacturer defaults for under-clocking at idle. But I can't do anything to push the CPU to 70c even at 100% load for hours on a 4.8ghz OC(I did a lot of stress testing when I first got it, haven't lately)

I'll probably give that 240M a whirl, then. 5820k that I'm going to build needs a shetload of cooling. A giant two-fan Noctua or water. Water is nice because that BIG ASSED air cooler takes up a fekton of space in the chassis.
