I ended up getting it to work by deleting all the old nvidia stuff and updating the bios (I had one from Sep 2012 and newest was Sep 2013). Seems to be fine now

Based on benchmarks, I wouldn't buy lower than 2666, that's for sure.
He asked about timing settings, not speed. I don't really know if they impact things much. You can take some 2100 rated memory and relax the timing settings to bump it up to higher speeds, but I'm not sure if that's worthwhile or if there's a trade off there.

Any recommendations on a new monitor? Preferably in the under $200 range. It'll be running off the 960, with a second 23 inch monitor running 1080p. I'll use the second for misc stuff and the new for gaming. I'll likely be playing a lot of Overwatch

Edit: I might try to wait for Black Friday, but I want to start looking
Edit 2: Looking in the 23-27 inch range

Never owned an Acer but that monitor does seem legit - Their ultrawide line of monitors is costly as f tho!

Dammit. Did that just come out? I would probably have sprung for that instead of the 27" IPS Acer I just got.

It's relatively new, but it's just out of stock. Plenty of reviews from people who've already bought it.

Only downside is you would definitely need two 980 TIs to push 60fps on it and then deal with the issues that sli bring. Hell you would probably need sli pascal cards to get a consistent 60fps.

Naw, it's still 40% less resolution than a 4K monitor(4.9mil pixels vs 8.3 mil for 4k). It's closer to a standard 1440p(36% more resolution) than it is 4k. A single 980Ti would probably do you just fine to get most games near 60fps

Well, 3 780s aren't enough to drive cinema 4K at 60fps consistently at ultra. Learned that today. Damnit. Guess it's time to upgrade.

I'd rather have the 27 inch I think, I heard the quality control on the X34 is bad, maybe they'll fix it.

Could be. Pixels pushing wouldn't be a problem for me, as I'm generally playing games that are old as dirt while working through my ever growing Steam backlog. I definitely don't regret the XB270HU or whatever the model is, it's great. But that thing looks awesome, and I don't really need the extra refresh.
