The airflow in the 500dx is far better and the case in general is just better put together

Thanks. He ended up getting a 1660 super in a prebuilt. Wasn’t too bad of a deal considering the prices of gfx cards we were looking at. Like you said, just couldn’t find them anywhere.

Newegg has a bit of (older) GPU stock. Some 1660 supers, some 5700xts and 5600xts. At least Asus models.

/personal rant - I bought some Noctua nt-h2 paste off Amazon and apparently I am acting as the importer - customs needs Toxic Substance Control Act forms from me.

How much do I lose out on getting a Ryzen 5 3600 vs a 3600X? Was going to get a 3600X but they are impossible to find now or else inflated in price.

Not much.

200MHz of base clock in MT workloads when using pure stock settings. 200MHz of max clock in ST workloads when use pure stock or official OC'ing via Core Performance Boost. Chip lottery, power, and cooling dependent when using "void your warranty" manual OC or Performance Boost Optimization (PBO) overclocking.

So pal scored a 5600x at microcenter and is deciding on a MB.

asus b550-f rog strix vs asus x570 tuf gaming plus

Not sure the x570 comes 5600x ready out of the box for one. I realize it has a couple extra sata slots, but it also has wifi he doesnt need, and a chipset fan which I assume will be annoying one day.

Same price, tempted to tell him to get the 550. (also has a 2500 lan port but I dont see how that matters when nothing else will)

Just make sure the mobo has “bios flashback” as a feature. Then you can update the bios on a naked board with a thumb drive.

Neither one of those boards has a bios flashback and the dudes at the Microcenter are all telling him it's fine lol. Yeah ok, once he gets it all together and finds out it doesnt work I can't wait to listen to him cry.

Unless you have access to a CPU you can drop in for the update, I wouldn't risk getting a mobo without bios flashback. Yeah, you could get new stock that has an up to date bios, but there's no guarantee.

Yeah fuck it he's getting the MSI B550 mag tomahawk. Has a flaskback feature just in case. I was pushing Asus but they don't have anything that will work for sure in stock.
