I'm doing my normal prebuild prep/relearning the latest components for my Skylake build once it comes out. The CPU and GPU seem like an easy choice with a Intel Skylake Core i7-6700K and 2 x nVidia 980 Ti. Is the Samsung 850 Pro 1TB that fastest/best choice SSD right now? I saw they just came out with a 2 TB version or are about to but I'm not sure I need that much space.

850 Pro is definitely the way to go with SSDs if money is no object(as demonstrated by your video cards)

The "Pro" line gives you about 10% better performance than the "Evo" line, for roughly 40% more price at the 1GB size.

I wouldn't use M.2 drives in a desktop for awhile, that technology is fairly new and even in the enterprise world we have issues with all different brands. Best to wait on that stuff.

Guys we are talking about a skylake build. The skylake chipsets are going to have nvme built in. Yes the SM951 costs more, but if money is no object, that's a sane purchase.

Interesting, logged into futuremark to do some benchmarking on my new 980 ti and found it has results from some of my ancient builds;

Athlon XP 2200 + Geforce 4 ti 4200
Athlon XP 2600 + FX5900
Athlon 64 3200 + 6800 GT
Opteron 165 + 8800GT
i7 920 + GTX295/GTX680

13 years of computers. Remember spending hours trying to tweak and OC things properly squeezing every last bit of fps out of those machines.

Eh, I'm not THAT rich. I think the Pro 1TB is what I'm going to settle on for now. I'll probably change that 50 times between now and when Skylake is out, though.

Friend wants a pc and doesn't want to wait for new Intel tech. I haven't built one in years. Recommendations for parts? Wants to stream games without any issues. He'll spend up to 2k easy - really wants no probs streaming. Would appreciate any input.

Tell your buddy to buy this. Only thing you would need to change on that is the cooler if hes wanting to OC and the case to whatever he personally think looks better.

And downgrade that 980Ti to a 970 in order to end up near the $2000 price point

I'm thinking of buying a ~500gb SSD. My computer takes an absolute eternity to boot up on its 1TB HDD. How much of a to-do is it to move my windows installation and a few games over to the SSD?
