I was recalling your difficulty with HF rings in addition to your 100 gloves crafted for an upgrade. Didn't you have have to step away for a little while after getting screwed on HF rolls?
Hellfires are the bane of my existence. To be fair I crafted 60 of those gloves after this pair, so I can only blame myself for that.

?? the only perfect square that is that high is emerald(Because it is the only usuable weapon upgrade). The rest go for 2k or less right now. Nice thing about being a barbarian is that I do not care about Dex nearly as much as Strength, which requires ruby.
You are thinking of Flawless Squares, which are dropped. Amulet recipes use Perfect Squares, which take 3 flawless + 30k to make. On the AH, they sell for 40k (most colors) to 70k (emeralds).

prices for Vile Wards probably took the biggest nosedive of any item I've seen. So if you don't want to bother crafting shoulders and are looking for/need a decent upgrade, take a look at those.
Yes, please do. I've been making a killing on flipping Vile Wards the past few days.

As for new/returning players, I have no idea what compels people to post things on the AH without knowing the current market value of items, but I'm sure glad they do. Two months ago I returned to the game, and was broke and mostly clueless. I bought 100 million, and turned that into a little over 2 billion worth of items. I've had one lucky item drop that sold for 800m, and after selling all my old Barb gear I've assembled a 200k dps CM Wizard. I've also "won" about 100 million worth of shit from twitch.tv streamers giving away gold/stuff. Watching streamers is as boring as it sounds, but I keep them on a second box, and have 3 or 4 going at once and glance over when they announce a giveaway. If they want to give me gold and items for me to put their stream in my background, great. Streamers also are a great way to get a pulse of what's going to be popular on the AH. I flipped a ton of shit during the farming contest last weekend from people who apparently saw the Wizards out farming the Barbs and Monks and decided to start their own. If you like drama, there's that too with the Euro's. Seemingly none of them can get along with each other.

I also sold a few items to have a few dollars on the RMAH. I've snagged two nice items that was listed for $2.99, with a $250 buyout. Only insane people would spend $250 on an item, so you can occasionally get them for the listing price especially since the max gold AH buyout is 2 billion, and 2 billion in gold is much cheaper than $250. So I always keep $10 or so in my account so I can snipe an expensive item for cheap on the RMAH.

So if you're new to the game, or a returning player with a limited bankroll and a patient personality you can build yourself a decent set of gear with a little work. If you're an OCD type over having the best gear possible as soon as possible, and you don't want to spend a lot of real life money, then D3 might not be for you until the expansion/PS3/4 console.

While undoubtly profitable, playing ah tycoon seems like no fun. Which is probably why I'm constantly broke.

Yeah, being patient can get you a lot of shit for cheap, but you watch streamers and I'm sure 90% of players are just the same as they are. They build 300+ million gold sets for people and go, "well, these are really only worth about 10 mil, but since I have 350 to spend, I'll just buy them now for 40 million gold"

That's the problem I think, I want to play this game to kill demons and loot shit, not watch streams and trade on the AH. If they added in races ala PoE with massively buffed drop rates, no AH and self sufficiency, I'd be back in a heartbeat. Nothing discourages me from playing better than reading a character build guide which mentions you need 200M in gear to make it work. I read that as "you need to play this many hours before you can have fun"

I don't play the AH really at all but I did buy a 900'ish DPS 60% CD 1 Socket hammer with most of the DPS being top end for 15k until I cound find a suitable MH. I sold it yesterday for like 5M.

Realistically you can get a decent farming Wiz or Barb fairly inexpensive. Like maybe 20M gold. With the latest additions you can play the game really how you choose. You can set it to MP5 and get a decent mix of essence, rares, legends or set it to MP10 and kill only whites and get good xp and legends or set it to MP2 and farm elites for essence. Setting the game to MP10 and doing Keeps2 reminds me the most of Diablo 2, tbh. It is almost identical.

I think you can do it a lot cheaper than that, and farm MP3/4. Like 1 million.

Once I figured out that my handout Barb gear was dogshit and would all need to be replaced, I sold everything and started a Wizard. I've since decided to see how cheaply I could rebuild a Barb. So far I've purchased weapons. I've spent a bit under 100,000 and got a 1004 dps mace with some STR and VIT and a socket, and then a got a fast, offhand dagger with 800dps 108 STR, 89% crit chance, plus a socket for 2091 gold.

I've only seen that once. Some dipshit gave a streamer 2.5 billion and said "fix me." The streamer took 15 seconds to look through the AH and bought some flawed and overpriced Chantodo for 1 billion, and a ring for another 700 million. Some guy asked the streamer why he was raping this poor guy, and was insta banned. I felt no pity, since the guy obviously ebayed the gold but he could have had a better character made from scratch for 500 million. On the other hand, two streams I often have running are both knowledgeable and budget minded (both Asians, unsurprisingly) when building a set for somebody. There's some perverse fun in watching somebody AH shopping, and sniping him on a really good item that's underpriced before the streamer can buy it.

Not really because to get good prices you need to patiently snipe 1d12h auctions or lowball <1m auctions. It isn't fun but it is frugal.

My budget CM wizard I just mentioned has cost me less than 4million so far, and I'm splurging a bit on her (because I just sold some dumb int skorn for 12m). CM isn't even the cheapest build, I just didn't want to do archon or kite.

Helm: IK helm (~50-100K)
-Sort by STR. Figure out how much a good strength one goes for and can see if it is a good deal.

Gloves: IK gloves (~50-100K)
-Same

Chest: IK chest (2-3M) -- could go cheaper by getting a rare with similar properties
-Same

Bracer: Lacuni (1M?)
-Filter by STR/VIT lacuni. Favor STR over VIT.

Boots: IK boots (500K)
-Filter by STR/VIT.

MH: Mace/Axe (1M)
-Filter by Crit Damage% + Has Socket. May want to do Life Steal + Has Socket. Sort by DPS.

OH: Echoing Fury (2M)
-Filter by has socket and STR. Sort by price. Find a good cheap one with +0.23+ APS. May have to get just a STR w/ no socket.

Pants: Rare (500K)
-Filter by STR, VIT, RA, Has Socket 2.

Ring1/2: Rare (200K each)
-Filter by STR, Crit Chance or IAS

Ammy: Rare (300K)
-Filter by STR, Crit chance or IAS

Shoulders: Rare (not sure)
-Filter by STR, VIT, RA, Life%. Consider dropping Life% if you can't find good ones.

Belt: IK belt (100K)
-Same deal. Sort by STR and find a good deal.

The once you get a bit more money you can consider getting Inna's pants and getting rid of IK boots in favor of STR ice climbers. Get a CC lacuni and probably a better, higher DPS mainhand while trying to craft amulets, shoulders, gloves -- in that order.

I tried to give estimates on how much I'd be willing to pay for a "good deal" on the various things. Like I said it takes patience and, in general, bid sniping on expiring auctions. Figure out if you're near a WW breakpoint and if you are favor some IAS over CC. If you aren't get some CC. I put the bare minimum to search for. On the rings and ammy I'd also look for CD% and wouldn't buy one with just main stat + CC.

I feel like innas isn't good for a budget barb. You lose a massive amount of ehp unless you are buying a double vit roll which costs 60 million plus. Also on weapons when you search drop the socket and search for native crit dmg of 80%. If you are on a budget you aren't putting a 9million - 30 million gem into a 500k weapon.

So I tried out crafting last night, with pretty bad results. I ended up with sidegrades on my amulet (~20 attempts) and shoulders (~60 attempts), which were my two weakest pieces. I also got a sidegrade for an alt's shoulders. By sidegrade, I mean they were roughly equivalent pieces I would NEVER have paid money for as an "upgrade".

The silver lining is that I can sell the things they replaced to offset some of the crafting costs. Otherwise, I would have considered it a train wreck.

You can craft your own emeralds to be decent enough. The issue with CD% is that it has to roll well but with a socket it can't roll well. It is binary. There or not. CD% can be 50-100% and if it rolls high that can dramatically increase the value of the item. So I find it easier to search for sockets instead of CD%.

thanks tenks/ishad for your input, with this kinda setup what would i be maxing out on MP, like 4-5? efficiently?

I actually have most of the ik stuff already, im gonna look around and try to snipe the rest of the stuff over the week while im working.

Also about how much STR should i never go below for each piece? also how much dps on the mainhand, i grabbed a EF with 980 dps, str and socket for 40k. im looking at two mainhands, one is 1k+dps with only LL+socket for 1.5mill, the other one is 870 dps, LL and 65% crit+ socket for 1.6mill, theres also 790 dps, 90%CD/socket for cheap.

also how much LL do i need? do i need it in the mainhand or is 3% from the belt good enough
