So don't play. Go to your comfort zone of PoE, where you have 5k post in the thread and obviously love the game and play it fanatically. Instead of just slinking into here looking to nitpick posts or something I dunno, definitely not talking about the game.

I'll never understand that aspect of gamers. It's as if they take it as a personal insult people enjoy something they dont, or they dont enjoy the things they do. It's so weird. Granted now that I think about it, not really just a gamer thing, humanity in general on any number of topics. Guess that animal pack mentality never really faded from evolution.
Do I really have that many posts in that thread?

To the contrary, I'm looking to discuss the game. Yes, my initial post was snarky, sorry. Release and previous expansions, consensus was "still not good". Seems something has changed. But, if it's still people judging on X hours of not being bored, then maybe not much has changed. That's why I was focusing on that aspect.

PoE1 has gotten so many desperately needed features recently. Partly because of Chris retiring, partly because of competition. But, they also sat on their asses for almost a year and did nothing. It's myopic to ignore the competition, even if you don't have much interest in actually playing.

Consensus is hard to judge, even more so in the world today where everything is very divided. A very us or them mentality. Sometimes its worth the risk to buy something, even if the general consensus is against it, even on a board supposedly of gamers.

Like this game for example, you say the consensus was "still not good", yet I have had fun with it the entire time. Has every season been good, no, but generally its been fun in spurts. Play 2-4 weeks and then stop. It's quite like a lot of games. Games are very person specific. Listening to general advice is nominally good when those critiques are about technical problems, but even that can be weird(look at general CP2077 launch reviews, but I had a blast with zero issues). But general advice when its about gameplay or story can be very hit or miss, because to each person its wildly different. Not to mention the laundry list of things(some having merit) people will dislike about the company and devs that have zero to do with the game itself.

Imo each person needs to look at the game, watch videos of it and decide for themselves if its worth the cost to try. How upset would you be if you spend $60 bucks for a waste of time. Sadly I can even ask trusted friends about a game, they will say they hate it, but then I end up trying it and I have fun.

I stopped playing D4 a few weeks after launch, I was just done with it and what it offered. Didn't dislike it, but didn't feel a desire to keep playing. Bought the VoH/LoH combo a week before LoH launch to get through the VoH campaign. A lot had changed, better systems and "more" to do, not that I did everything in the little window before LoH launch.

I feel the War Plan system has added a ton of value/fun into D4. I one of those people who likes having a "goal", even if its a repeatable quest, get a bit more for doing something you'd be doing anyway. The War Plans do that by bringing together all the content you'd normally be doing into a set of 5 activities that reward you for doing them, and gives you points to alter how each of those activities play out.

So now after investing points into various activities, I can have Duriel or Andariel spawn instead of Blood Maiden, or get ambushed by Hellwyrms that spawn mini-Duriels while I'm in a Helltide. I can get ambushed while fighting a Nightmare dungeon boss by the Beast in Ice, Belial or the Amalgam of Hate.. or all three. These and others spice up what we'd normally do (and of course its still new), so it adds to the fun factor by quite a bit (for me at least).

I haven't played since launch but I've watched a LOT of people playing. To me it seems very much like instead of going towards D2 like everyone hoped and they thought, they just made Diablo 3.5. Honestly, I think that's probably fine. D3 gets shit because of whimsyshire and this and that, but D3 had a fun, albeit very short, game loop. D4 looks like they're literally implementing that but with some more systems added in. You still seem to be doing Pits (Neph rifts) and then Tower (Greater Rifts) while blasting your glyphs (legendary stones) and your skills are now super condensed. The paragon system is 1000% better than D3, but this does very much seem like D3+ to me. Honestly that makes it more appealing than having it try to be modern D2 and failing miserably.

The other aspect is atmosphere is much darker than D3. That is the single biggest improvement to me.

Not sure about that now with every class becoming a mobile disco ball.
It's been reported that when the team asked the Lead Dev what the Warlock spell effects should look like, all he said was "Fuck my screen up fam, no cap."

I played most of this season as the Jazz Hands Warlock build (Tyrant grip). I got so used to face tanking everything that when I switched to the fissure build so I could actually see shit, I didn't even make it past the first wave of an infernal horde without dieing numerous times (then failed due to deaths on the second wave). So I then switched to the Apoc build, so I could face tank with a different spec... and it's even fucking worse (but shit just falls over, so all good, I guess).

D4 is way more unpolished and a buggy mess compared to d3. It's pretty amazing what a step back it is outside visuals. Latest bug, swapping difficulty can change your treasure breach dungeon keys to basic dungeon delve keys. Had that happen last night but heard it was widespread earlier today.

It is a reasonable concern when the competition is cheaper. I don't buy that many games new so 70 euros is a pretty big amount to spend so I would consider its monetary value too, not just is it fun, but more like for how long. This is generally something people say when they got what they feel is a reasonable amount of fun with it, without being a game they play for 3 thousand hours or for the next 6 years. I could see myself playing it again for a future season here and there without being the best game I've ever played, and so far I'm having enough fun that the high price tag isn't a concern anymore, but it was a consideration before I picked it up because I can buy games for a third of that price that are also very good.
I am totally parachuting in (ala Deathwing, apparently lol), but this post struck a chord for me - I have to say that buying the original game was my only video game regret purchase in a decade. When I saw the price of the first expansion I couldn't believe it: lowering that bar could have brought me back for another try in spite of the fact that I found my two forays into the original game unpleasant to my ARPG sensibilities.

I feel the same way about PoE2 - and had 2 unpleasant forays into that game and don't plan on ever going back to it either. Frankly I would go back to D4 before PoE2, even with the price barrier to catch up.

There are actually a pretty good selection of ARPGs to go around nowadays, don't really have to challenge/force yourself to play something with which you don't connect! I recently kickstarted Darkhaven.....

Yeah I think that's just the Blizzard trend, haven't played it but I heard a lot of noise about the lastest WoW patch being a complete fucking mess and them having to do a lot of hotfixes. AI coding or AI QA fucking it up hard it looks like since this is pretty much company wide, and also their reaction time is pretty fucking bad, they've been hotfixing the most egregious exploits(infinite scaling items, like 3-4 of them, infinite glyph upgrades in pit, rogues killing their own shadows to progress pit without killing anything then instantly kill the boss due to weird execute mechanics and so on) but they haven't fixed a lot of other stuff that was reported day 1-2 even though it's been like a week and a half.

But they've left a lot of pretty huge bugs like the MSQ locks(will eventually work if you retry enough times, there's like 3 spots it can bug out will depend on people/builds etc), lots of bugged achievements including trophy stuff(can't get the 100% skovos map achievement which is like super basic) and then a myriad of class bugs and other more minor bugs(if I spam teleports to go to Mephisto to farm him, he will bug out and not initiate combat, I have to walk there, also if I die on him, my minions now have no defenses so I have to exit, close the dungeon, then re-enter for every attempt, luckily minion necro shits on him and it only took me 3 attempts to kill him).

And yeah the bug you mentionned has been reported like day 1, it will also potentially fuck up undercity items too I believe, so you want to be extra careful when lowering difficulty, it seems to be fine to lower it a bit, but not anything below torment and supposedly even within torment if you lower it too much it'll brick stuff? Very weird shit. Also bricks them in your stash which makes it even more annoying.

Another fucky one for endgame stuff, if you use the horadrim cube special amulet item to add a 2nd legendary affix, then switch your original legendary affix, it'll prevent you from rerolling the 2nd one forever(even though you can do that if you don't touch the item). So make sure you get your shit right the first time with a perfect or like 1% off perfect so you don't have to touch it again.
