Excited to buy this game when they release the expansion that makes it worth playing!
Honestly that's the way to go with diablo. Both diablo 3 and 4 sucked ass until years after launch.

The bones of diablo 4 are still absolute ass, they just happened to add enough content that I found it fun for a season

D4 provides a different experience than D3. Where D3 is like PoE where it's a base then instance game, D4 provides like 12 different activities (10 of which are base then instance). The open world exp counting for kills if you tagged it is different but not new to the genre.

If your game starts as pickled pig shit and it takes a couple of paid expansions to get it to “oh this is decent” level then you have fucking failed.

Nothing and I have no faith.

I'm not playing the beta test retail game for the again
I posted after you but it was more to the thread in general. This thread is not nearly negative enough. Far too many "lolbrainlessarpg" and "itgotnotshittyeventually" replies.

I am trying, man. The first two were so fucking life altering that the next two are given huge passes by most. Not me. Fuck post-WoTLK Blizzard.

New Starcraft is going to be absolute garbage as well.

If you have no interest why bother posting at all? A lot of people think it's gonna suck. I'm prepared for it to suck but also I would like to see it succeed because I enjoy the genre. You can be both skeptical and hopeful.

Also, it got not shitty eventually is just the truth. A lot of us enjoyed D3 and D4 after their fixes and upgrades.

D4 was the last game I pre-ordered or bought at release and was also the reason I will never do this again for any game. Definitely don't plan to break that rule for D5 and I have no faith in blizzard as a company to develop anything that's fun and original. They are just exploiting past IP / nostalgia for the last 20+ years. Yeah D4 became fun for a bit with the last expansion but not enough that it should take an $80 preorder plus the box price of two expansions to get there.

I think the larger problem is that it is the same team doing D5 that is working on D4 now. They can't carry any momentum over from one season to the next, and they rely on the same boring mechanics every season. Make new character, play OP meta build, quit. This is all they have. When they do manage a good idea, it gets discarded or screwed with the next season.

I do have a sneaking suspicion that this will simply be D2 with D4's graphics renderer over top. If they were smart, they'd scrap D3's combat system that is in use in D4 and start over. Although, I wouldn't put it past them to make it D2 with D4 renderer and D3's combat system.

Finally, they don't have any ideas of their own. D4 is simply a remake of D3 but worse.

The cheap burger is being made with rat meat.
I honestly do not understand the weaponized autism hardon you have for this game and the concept of anyone enjoying it.

I don’t think anyone parachutes into the PoE thread in the same way. At all. And it’s clearly with an agenda. Man, Chris, Mark, or that other fat fuck aren’t gonna let you suck them. I play games to have fun. D4 - now - is fun to me. That is my metric. That’s it. It’s not some deep, abstract reason of figuring out problems or whatever. I do that for a living.

Poe is easily a top 10 game for me, but it ceased to feel fun so I bounced. It has problems. The engine can sometimes have a ridiculous amount of jank compared to, yes even d4 which controls way smoother. Never seen a game send my pc into that level of gasping for air. Economy is not fun to me as a game. I’d rather spend more time on that in real life where it matters if that’s what the game is. And it mostly is. The bloat when I played was getting ridiculous. Maybe that got solved? I grew tired of their thinly veiled business model of nerfing/boosting skills around MTX that was in constant tension of having skills absolutely dumpstered to shake up the meta and effectively resulting in people pissing away money on MTX that won’t get used. They spent an inordinate amount of time sucking streamer cock which can be said of pretty much any multiplayer, mmo, or pseudo-mmo game today. Partly why I have gotten less interested in playing multiplayer games. I’ll give them this - they at least mostly shut the fuck up about politics which is something I wish Blizzaed would do

Anyway I do plan to play poe2 again once 1.0 drops. And I’ll get back to Grim Dawn sometime next year.

cliffs from the private panels

core gameplay

- No towns or city hubs
- set 100 years after D4 and 7 years into the fall of Sanctuary
- caravan traveling style existence for player
- story emphasis on desolate isolated experience
- MMO multiplayer aspects removed from gameplay
- caters to solo gameplay
- more heroes and classes than in Diablo franchise history
- demon hunter and monk confirmed legacy classes
- total classes will be between 10-20 classes

itemization

- D2 itemization is a stated design goal
- uninspired currently, but could improve with community feedback
- affixes are very basic
- affixes are similar to D4 at the moment
- lack of stat breakpoints or any D2 gear planning
- no comparison to D1/D2 itemization in the current design
- D3 had 36 pieces of gear upgraded in 2 hours, D4 had 56 pieces of gear upgraded in 2 hours, D5 is on track to continue this trend
- tetris inventory management is back

combat

- D3 combat is the stated goal
- developers said D3 is the pinnacle of ARPG combat
- very fast paced
- D1/D2 strategy using geometry/doors/map is not in the game
- no collision system

fundamental design

- Blizzard wants community-driven design for D5
- creator feedback development process
- no "Vision(tm)"
- same engine as D4 is confirmed, with slight upgrades
- fork of D4 engine
- D5 started as an expansion to add Diablo to D4
- D4 final expansion was spun off into it's own game
- direction of D5 was deemed too much of a paradigm shift story-wise/design-wise to add to D4 as an expansion
- D4 2.0 fair comparison at present

"weaponized autism" and "parachuting" seem at odds with each other. If the former was true, wouldn't I be much more vociferous and persistent?

People are more than welcome to join the PoE thread and discuss the game's flaws. I play a lot of the game but I would say I'm one of the game's biggest critics within the confines of that thread. I'm certainly not a fanboy, especially within the context of PoE2. I haven't given GGG any money since 2023 because I cannot be certain it won't go to PoE2.

All of those are fair points, I agree with pretty much all of them, but I'm not sure why they're relevant. My decision to not play D4 nor give Blizzard any more money since....I think the first month of WoW Classic?...has nothing to do with PoE. Let me put it this way: D4 was fiscally the correct choice while being regressive and damaging to the genre and gaming as a whole. D5 and their whole "idk, you tell us what to make" only reaffirms that.
