Good list. I would have thought there was more.

Few more hours. Please god don't let it be a gimmick, ie: an American or a woman.

The list of some of the old Who guard appearing in the special is pretty cool but a bunch of the so-called "celebs" they are also getting live interviews or video messages from is appalling.

Peter Davison (the Fifth Doctor) will be there in person and Matt Smith (the current Doctor) and Colin Baker (the Sixth Doctor) will also be contributing.

The marvellous Bernard Cribbins (Wilfred Mott) will be there in person and there'll be contributions from former companions including Anneke Wills (Polly), Katy Manning (Jo Grant), Janet Fielding (Tegan) and Bonnie Langford (Mel). Writer and actor Mark Gatiss also features in the show by way of a specially recorded video.

Celebrity fans in the studio includeRufus Hound, Liza Tarbuck and from Outnumbered, Daniel Roche. There'll also be video contributions from Professor Robert Winston,Jo Whiley, Bruno Tonioliand following his appearance in The Power of Three, Professor Brian Cox.
I have nfc who most of that bolded set of nonentities are?!

The tweet from the official photog has confirmed they have gone with another male so that's one huge set of speculation undermined.

Rufus Hound is a actor/comedian and DW fan, I think he has a Dalek tattoo, but I may be confusing him with someone else. Jo Whiley is a BBC Radio Presenter and DW fan. Bruno is a judge on Dancing with the Stars (our version of Come Dance or whatever the Brits call it). Liza Tarbuck from what I goggled was in the DW cartoon on CBBC/online. Daniel Roche is some kid, nfc what connection he has

BBC is learning from American tv. Any cross-promotion is good! I kinda hate it though. Pimp your other products on your own time.

Wouldn't mind seeing Dawkins. I don't like him, but he's a hard core Whovian, who even stole Baker's wife

People like that are okay. But judges from the reality shows and shit kinda irks me. Better than no special at all, I guess.

edit: My problem with a female Doctor isn't sexist btw. I just think it's a gimmick. It'd be like the next James Bond being Jamie Bond played by Julie Andrews.

There is no reason Tonioli should be there, he is an annoying fuck with and annoying accent and voice. Should have gotten Chris Hardwick up in that shit. American and a die hard Whovian. Or Craig Ferguson, id be fine with that

I feel the same way everytime someone gets on this "Idris Elba for the next Doctor" kick! It has nothing to do with race, just...no.

Female Doctor is a little bit too much. Just bring back Romana if you want a female Time Lord. In fact bring back Romana even if you don't want a female Time Lord. I guess that's kinda what River Song is but... eh. That's never seemed to be a marriage of equals. I liked that Romana would just look at him and school him every now and then, and he'd shut up and listen. They -try- to do that with River Song, but it doesn't seem to come off.

Idris Elba as Dr. Who would be amusing. I'd like to see Dr. Whodat. Float it for a special though before committing to a full season.

Yeah, this has been a bad weekend around the house for my wife. First the abomination that was the EQN announcements, and now this. I have a feeling I am not getting a home cooked dinner tonight....

Welp...I may be done with Dr. Who. Bummer.
Wow, doubt many will be on your side of the street!

They've grabbed one of the Uks best actors and will hopefully be moving away from the farcical bullshit and back towards actual story content. The only way I could realistically have been happier was if they had fired Coleman live on air.

A good chunk of the old timers have aged well!

This. He's going to make one badass Doctor. And hes obviously being casted to continue the current storyline of the Doctor growing darker. He's got a great whimsical side too.

The tone of the show changes with every incarnation. Well, except for when they forgot that's what keeps the show interesting and kept doubling down on clownish with 6+.

I really love the faery tale farcical bullshit arc of Matt Smith's Doctor. How you could watch "The Doctors Wife" and not think that was as awesome as sliced cheese AND sliced bread -- you would have no soul. But it can't last forever. And you don't want that tone to last forever, anyway. Overexposure cheapens it. As long as the quality remains high.

Best Doctor goes: Tom Baker (for the actor), Matt Smith (for the writing), all the others. BAM bitches. Layin down some truth up in here. But I also thought that Tennant and Pertwee were quite good too.

Tom Baker almost killed the show if you think about it. Celery Man would have been an acceptable Doctor if only he hadn't followed Tom Baker. No one was going to follow that act and be considered of much account. This show has to change tone every few seasons or the whole thing will just fall apart.

What they need to do is a mirror of that episode. Nothing to explain, that was the Doctor crossing his own timestream. Fixed point! Wibly Wobly Timey Wimey!

You know thatcouldbe entirely witty and enjoyable to watch. Just call the Episode "The Fourth Wall".
