I've played characters of both genders and I usually pick based off what I think will suit the type of character I want to create. If I want a stoic warrior who thinks with his fists and smashes his enemies into tiny bits with a warhammer, I'll choose a male character. If I want a sneaky little rogue who lies who flits in and out of shadows, lies everyone and will steal the shirt off your back, I'll choose a female.

They're entirely different things. Playing a female character even in a single player game is no different than reading a book from a female POV, and in MMO's most people just pick whichever model looks coolest. I play about 50/50 because I like casters and a lot of male characters look absurd in cloth gear. Nobody, except for maybe the hardcore thee and thou types, actually identifies as their character, the character is just a graphical avatar to run and around and kill shit with. At no stage is the individual thinking 'I have to act like a female as much as possible, pretend to be female, get into a female mindset, convince others than I'm female.

Am I the only one who can read? It's about people who ROLEPLAY as the character (and get in to it), not the people who pick females because they want their armor progression to get skankier and skimpier as it gets stronger or happen to be playing a forced char game like Tomb Raider...

Why don't you just add "because I'm a girl, so to like me, you'd have to be a lesbian" after those comments, and really increase the awkward, creepy factor. Anyway, hate to tell you Goliath, but most normal dykes, just say "damn you're hot"--you know, because they don't feel the need to have to define their own gender by labeling someone's attraction under a certain type of sexuality.
