I don't get this. Are you just talking about pricing? I see Tomb Raider for $16, Crysis 3 for $20, Mass Effect 3 for $6, Battlefield 3 $6, Dead Space 3 $20 .. is this price gouging compared to other places?

Why do people think publishers are going to hand Valve money forever when they could run their own service? It's not like fucking GFWL that ran on top of steam and tried to charge you money for shit you already had for free. It's just a fucking online store / DRM setup, same as everything else. Even if you buy a game from a store you'll have to log in to some kind of "service."
Because Origin is shit and Steamisthe market. EA were about five years too late with Origin and forcing people to use their stillborn online store just means people won't buy their products.

Mind you, EA have gone back to sucking syphilitic donkey cock in the last couple of years so it's no great loss anyway.

I liken Origin more to Battle.net honestly. Just more proprietary bullshit that hardly works. I have no problem with it on concept. Just if you're going to do it don't make it fucking suck.

Steam is more in tune with GOG or D2D. That level of cutthroat competition is good for everyone involved.

So you hate it because it's EA? Because that's all I ever see anyone saying, really. Oh no, I have to log into a different ad-laden online store / DRM client to play this game! Big fucking deal? To me, playing a game through steam or origin is exactly the same experience. I run the game, it launches the goddamn store, I log into the goddamn store and minimize it, I play the game. Hell, I find steam more intrusive because it patches itself about 50x more often than Origin.

Bottom line is I find steam and origin and all of these goddamn required DRM clients equally annoying, so hating one more than another hardly makes sense to me. And refusing to buy a game, ANY game, because of the thing you have to spend 20 seconds logging into before you play the game is enormously fucking retarded. Download a crack if you hate it so much, for fuck's sake.

God, Origin has been utter shit. They've been refunding people's games because of issues - I tried to load up ME3 the other day and it went into an endless loop of validating my DLC content. Fucking ridic.

Battle.net has been nicer at least at the beginning; the dashboard effect is reminiscent of xbox live - you see what people are doing, what game they're playing, even announcements depending on the game. What's weird is that I got battle.net dashboard because of the hearthstone beta and it invaded every other game I have. Even if I load it up from a desktop icon it still goes through battle.net now.

On topic - I am excited for inquisition; it sounds like NWN2 to a degree - you build up your forces, and create the world around you. I don't know how I expect that playing out, but ideally whatever you do would be reflected in the world. IE, chaotic evil thief class means that there is a well established thieves and/or assassin's guild that has your people looking over their shoulder to make sure they didn't offend anyone or having to pay the guilds for protection.

I also want the ability to ACTUALLY decide how the world ends/is saved.. DA:O's storyline required you kill the archdaemon, and obviously there was no choice in DA2. I want the king of shadows to come down in DA:I and be like SOOO, supremely evil and powerful inquisitor, DO YOU WANT TO HELP ME TAKE OVER THE WORLD? Fuck yea I do, let's dig in.

I really like the idea of a world shaped by my hand - going evil can mean a shadowy world where people scrape by, and going good can mean one free of fear and tyranny. But I want to make that choice. It seems like it might be possible with what I'm hearing, but I am trying not to get my hopes up. I am under no illusions that they might not be able to deliver.

Well that's a much better answer than "EA SUX FUCK EA"

To me they are ALL an annoyance. I crack basically everything.

Origin and Steam have more or less been equivalent in terms of features and performance for at least the past year so anyone saying Steam is better is wrong. One might prefer Steam, but that does not mean it is better.

Anyway, can we get back to discussing Dragon Age: Inquisition? Seems like Bioware is taking inspiration from Assassin's Creed when it comes to management aspects of the Inquisition. I also wonder how Varic's interrogation during Dragon Age II relates to this game. My guess is it takes place during the game? Would be cool if you are the one who orders the interrogation

Has Origin started doing large scale sales like Steam? I know last year the Origin boss said he refused to do major sales because it cheapened the IP of the games and they wanted to be the Nordstrom to Valve's Target....

My guess is that you'll see DA2 overlap a bit, kind of like Hawke's first year in Kirkwall coincided with the Blight. IE, after you ran to Kirkwall and actually got in, the next time you see Varric he says the blight is over and it's been a full year. So, I anticipate it opens and Cassandra is talking to Varric, then gives the book to Leliana, then goes back to Varric and says, OK LET'S GO FIND HAWKE. Because god dammit, they're going to tie up those loose ends or so help me...

At the end of DA2, we know the grey wardens are on the move, your warden from the first game is MIA, Hawke is missing etc. I would HAVE to assume, that heroes being what they are, they are all en route to taking on Celene and Orlais and all the crazy shit.

What would be fucking awesome and amazing is if you take your character, do your shit, and along the way not only do you run into your old comrades, but your old characters, and maybe, can even recruit them. Your warden became king/queen? Ok, so they're leading the Fereldan army there. They did not become king/queen, but stayed warden commander? You led them through Kirkwall to Orlais to deal with shit going nuts. Hawke sided with the mages? You lead a contingent to seek out weak areas of the veil. Hawke sided with the templars? You are tracking down rogue mages, as well as overseeing Kirkwall maintenance as the Viscount.

They have a huge opportunity to really nail this game. Throw backs to old characters (Because while it sucks not to continue their story, what REALLY sucks is literally when they just say, AND THEN THEY ALL DISAPPEARED because that keeps fucking happening) and old comrades is one of the biggest and best ways to make a connection. Not only do you remember how much you loved those chars/games, but it also means you have more of a way to continue building resources. You made both the warden and the champion famous; what would be fabulous would be to recruit them to your side. This can add in specific things; did you check out all the lore areas in DA2? Do all the achievements? Well, maybe it lends you a bit of knowledge, IE in the same way things change a bit with certain actions in ME3. Find all the alchemy/poison recipes? Bravo, look at this! Made all the armor upgrades? Whee. You can't play your old characters, but at least you can interact with them, and utilize their resources. (And it should go without saying, their RI's should be there too, because shit I miss Alistair and Fenris.)

I really, really hope they do something along those lines. Since they have specifically said this isn't DA3, it stands to reason the actual time line won't extend much, and will overlap a bit, paving the way for perhaps DA3. A way to sort of gather your troops and marshal forward would be fan-fucking-tastic.

I have no hope they actually do this though.

I also don't see kickstarter or community projects on Origin or something similar to Steams Greenlight

Notice my usage of the term "more or less" when talking about Steam and Origin. We could nit pick different features all day, Origin has some features that Steam doesn't.

Anyway, it would be cool to see the Grey Warden or Hawk show up. It would be pretty easy to make their attitudes similar to the way you played as well. In my game my warden ended up romancing Morrigan and following her through the mirror so if the Warden doesn't show up in Dragon Age: Inquisition I will be fairly disappointed considering how central Morrigan seems to be to the story.

Prepare to be frustrated then. The default canon has a dead warden, so the whole Morrigan and godchild angle seems to be irrelevant.

According to Mark Darrah, for players who do not have or choose not to import a world-state into Inquisition, a default "canon" will be provided as in Dragon Age II: an "Ultimate Sacrifice" Dalish Warden, Alistair made King, and Hawke a mage who sided with the mages in DA2.

An elf warden? What is this shit, every good warden was a dwarf in his underoos.
Apparently there will be some way to set up the world state based on the various games without having to actually import saves. The elf warden default is there solely for those who don't care enough to make decisions based on previous games.

default choice being a dead warden = little relation to your warden.

Frankly my preference would be that hawke died and that whole city he was stuck in burned to the ground.

If they weren't a bunch of dicks they'd just let us play the same character from DAO. And give me the sword I got from the temple of vulak mod.
