Yeah MMORPG's attract a lot of reclusive type players that forced PVP just doesn't suit. If the game takes off though, it has the potential to be really good. It has the right elements but the gaming community is so excessive with cancelling games at release when it doesn't shock and awe, and there's a very good chance that can happen here. Worth a run none the less.

Forced PVP is cancer. New World showed this years ago.

I'll hang out and wait until they release a better version. Not a PVP free version, because by default definitions it would be better. But simply a better version.

Dune deserves better.

I got in beta last summer, game blows at full price probably only worth $10 for the time you will get out of it.

Played for a few hours and, yeah, I'd have a pretty hard time recommending it at full price unless you are a legit fan of Dune. The setting is definitely neat and the way they have implemented heat, storms and worms seems pretty cool; but the crafting and building is bog-standard stuff that you can easily match in free-to-play titles nowadays (game reminds me a lot of Once Human). NPCs are as brain-dead as ever. Reminds me of Conan in that regard.

I mean, if you are like me and enjoy Dune, are bored, and like the idea of playing something casual it is okay. But if you need to be careful with money or are on the fence I'd just wait. I don't think the hype around this will last long.

Was surprised that Jeffrey Combs was voicing a character in this - I visited the Mentat trainer in Arakkeen city and that voice is unmistakably his

Having fun. Like I said I dont expect anything long term. Like most survival games there is a wall you hit and it takes DLC get more.

I figure once I finish the all the trials(however many there are), explore all the testing stations, intel points, do some flying around and mining with the buggy and try Pvp I will be done. Come back later if more gets added, like I did with exiles.

If you dont like survival games, not sure I would even bother. There is a lot of gathering and crafting over and over, with mixes of combat when you to go do PoIs, or apparently some of the party dungeons but then its just back to lots of gathering and crafting.

Go watch shroud play for a an hour, its 45 minutes of flying around gathering, 10 minutes of crafting and probably 5 minutes of combat, if you want to see what someone who played the beta and is just rushing min/maxing and will probably be done in a day or two.

I just got done after playing most of the day since launch. One crash and a few bugs but mostly good performance and I’m digging the game a lot.

The game is great.

People throwing shade at this game either live on Reddit and just tout whatever the negative topic of the day is, hate survival games, or have a potato PC.

You'll easily get 100+ hours of of this thing, which is amazing value, IMO. For some weird fucking reason, gamers feel like an "MMO" means that you have to be able to play it 8 hours/day, forever. If you only get a couple hundred hours out of it, it somehow "has no content".

I'm enjoying this too and don't really like survival games that much. The setting does a lot of heavy lifting, but moment to moment gameplay is enjoyable so far too.

People throwing shade at this game hate survival games.

That is exactly why I don't throw shade at it. It's like those fuckers that hate romance movies, but then watch one to review it, and the "Review" is nothing but "Everything about this movie sucked!".

Well I was on my way to a quest and I fell into some quicksand on my speeder bike. A fucking worm ate me and I lost everything. I just scavenged enough to finally get equipped to take on the new shit and now I have to remake everything from scratch. Fuck you worms!!!! Still love this game.

It's not technically DD, but.. it kind of is. it's on the overland map. As soon as you get to the part of having to go to the crash site, then the whole main story becomes full blown pvp and its going to be great watching that shitshow unfold.

the Hephaetous wreck, and water shippers, are both open PvP areas, both are MSQ areas.
I read that combat in this game is janky. No, not janky. It is straight up broken. Broken combat and forced pvp is going to make a lot of people wish they didn't buy it or refunded it when they could. Makes me wonder yet again if devs play the games they are making because the combat is bad and broken in a HUGE way.

Also, they can fuck off with rentable private servers. Either make the game free or the servers free. Don't charge for both. Why in fuck is only part of the game private?

People are already griefing with building placement. Granted, you can climb over them, but it is going to be a huge PITA real quick.

Seems like FC never learns.

Great. Take the worst aspect of New World and make it even worse, and a part of base gameplay.

Why do these companies never learn?

edit - in New World, your zerg/forumquest faction basically ran the server, and controlled the towns worth having. They put shitty taxes on everyone who wasn't that faction, so it completely ruined even trying to play normally. The servers also stopped allowing you to create characters on the zerg/winning faction after a point, so if you wanted to play on said server you were basically fucked if you didn't get into the swarm early enough.

it effectively created a snowball effect where if you weren't on the zerg faction, you were going to fall behind in most aspects of gameplay. It's a terrible mechanic and it looks like D:A is taking that retarded concept and pushing it to 11.

PVP continues to ruin otherwise good game ideas.
Controlling faction gets a 33% boost to combat damage? Incredible idea in a PVP game.

That's been the thing I notice every time I look at a stream of this. The combat looks absolutely retarded. Like, something you'd see 25+ years ago bad.

Then again, whenever I watch, there's very little actual combat. Mostly just gathering shit. Everyone playing it seems super engrossed, but I'm not sure with what.

I'm a survivor game junky and I can't quite grasp what's making this one good.

People who've never played the game commenting on how shitty combat is, terrible PvP is, etc.

"I read", "I watched"
