Another 3 IQ Kirun take.People who've never played the game commenting on how shitty combat is, terrible PvP is, etc.
"I read", "I watched"
Yup, definitely a FoH thread!
I read that combat in this game is janky.
Which is it? You "read" that combat is janky or you played it?Another 3 IQ Kirun take.
I played the game. The combat sucks. Not even close to being acceptable. That it has unavoidable PVP make the whole thing a bit of a joke.
Is that what people play MMOs for? The amazing combat? Please name me an MMO aside from BDO that has good "moment to moment" combat. So are you saying the combat is good?
So are you saying the combat is good?
Oh I wasn't saying run locally. I mean like how they have AOC servers setup in g-portal. Currently they let you have "private servers" that are basically default with a couple of toggles but you still have a shared always on PVP deep desert with other "private servers." Which isn't a private server at all. I'm fairly certain given Funcom's track record that at some point down the line they will change that to "your own deep desert" with more toggles (AOC just kept expanding the options you could modify in the server settings) so that they are actually private servers and not the bullshit they are calling private servers now. They're never going to let you run this locally - they mentioned IP issues with Legendary Pictures and the Herbert Estate won't allow it.
And if you don't want to PVP in deep desert, I'm sure it is quite possible to do rat runs if you know what you're doing and you're smart. I do solo runs in extract shooters all the time vs. full teams. Sure, sometimes you die, but once you understand player behaviors it becomes pretty easy to avoid getting outmatched or ambushed.
That's fair. In fact, I was talking about the 7 Days 2.0 release, and that combat is jank as fuck too.Melee can feel a bit disjointed to me. And the AI can be really dumb a lot of the time.
On the flip side movement is fun once you get certain items, and abilities. The AI can be smart sometimes, they will stunlock you and let their melee bro beat on you.
I have no clue how pvp is though, which I assume is where the majority of the combat is going to be once you are done with the base game(the story, PoIs, etc).
I will say I have yet to play a survival game that had amazing combat, as I think it is a minor focus for them compared to the rest of the game. This "feels" like a moderately improved conan exiles with ranged options that play much smoother.
In the end its not amazing combat but its not bad enough to frustrate you or make you not want to play. No one is playing for the combat, its not the hook at all.
A "survival game junky" you called yourself, should know all this.

And yeah like I said, it's not technically unavoidable if you never actually get into a pvp fight in the deep desert, but it's the being subjected to it part that the people who dislike pvp are not in favor of. Like me! I'll wait until Funcom gets to the point where they still want the game to be relevant and they fix the retarded private server shared Deep Desert stuff and have a setting to disable the Landsraad unless they completely change the implementation.
Honestly, man, it sounds like you're just looking for this thread to talk you out of buying it.Seems like people in this thread either love it or hate it. No one is just like "the game is middling."
Eh, while I hate the whole "early release" bullshit too, the $70 version does get you the season DLC pass too.I want to get this but Ill wait for the $50 version on the 10th. I know, $20 is not much and it isnt, but fuck this early release BS for more money.
I think it comes down to if the early experience is the only experience or not. There's zero chance this game doesn't have some major price drops before real game altering/adding DLC comes out. It's Funcom. Whenever the first DLC in the season (jfc I wish companies would stop releasing shit in season formats. This isn't an e-sport; there are no seasons) comes out, the base game may have already dropped to 50% or something and the total price would be a bit cheaper. But is it being cheaper worth missing out on whatever the initial rush is? I guess if you like PVP you definitely want to get in early on the "official" servers so you can be the only players in a few weeks on said servers? Dunno!Eh, while I hate the whole "early release" bullshit too, the $70 version does get you the season DLC pass too.
Ah does the auction house require people to get the resources from the Deep Desert to auction or is the auction house some kind of npc thing where you have to bid against other players or something to get the resources? You know, good ole buyer vs. other buyer that definitely isn't pvp *winks*Combat was janky in the open Beta, it feels way better. Story is interesting.
I don’t generally love survival games but this has enough mmo mixed in that it’s really enjoyable. I don’t give two shits about pvp. Funcom did say you can buy from the auction house any materials that are in the deep desert. Idk I’m just playing and enjoying the ride, we are old fucks and I don’t have any interest in pushing the bleeding edge and poopsocking my way through this.
