People who've never played the game commenting on how shitty combat is, terrible PvP is, etc.

"I read", "I watched"

Yup, definitely a FoH thread!
Another 3 IQ Kirun take.

I played the game. The combat sucks. Not even close to being acceptable. That it has unavoidable PVP make the whole thing a bit of a joke.

I read that combat in this game is janky.

Which is it? You "read" that combat is janky or you played it?

"Unavoidable PvP" - Tell me you haven't played the game without telling me you haven't played the game. So no, you haven't played it. You got your "hot takes" from Reddit and YouTube and decided to repeat them.
So are you saying the combat is good?
Is that what people play MMOs for? The amazing combat? Please name me an MMO aside from BDO that has good "moment to moment" combat.

Is the combat good? By the yard stick of MMOs? Yes, I think it's totally fine. Melee is definitely a little weird because of the way hitboxes are, but gunplay is actually pretty decent, especially for an MMO.

Melee can feel a bit disjointed to me. And the AI can be really dumb a lot of the time.

On the flip side movement is fun once you get certain items, and abilities. The AI can be smart sometimes, they will stunlock you and let their melee bro beat on you.

I have no clue how pvp is though, which I assume is where the majority of the combat is going to be once you are done with the base game(the story, PoIs, etc).

I will say I have yet to play a survival game that had amazing combat, as I think it is a minor focus for them compared to the rest of the game. This "feels" like a moderately improved conan exiles with ranged options that play much smoother.

In the end its not amazing combat but its not bad enough to frustrate you or make you not want to play. No one is playing for the combat, its not the hook at all.

A "survival game junky" you called yourself, should know all this.

I'm not playing until they patch out their retarded systems (which they absolutely will) but my understanding is that the top tier materials in the game are only found in Deep Desert, which is a perma-pvp enabled zone. You may not actually get into a pvp fight while in the zone, but you absolutely (if you are gathering it yourself) have to subject yourself to possible PVP to fully experience the game. That may not be unavoidable if you have other people go and get it for you or you never actually see another player who attacks you in the Deep Desert, but someone is being subjected to having to engage in a pvp portion of the game in order to use those top tier materials.

Or are those top tier materials found elsewhere in similar quantities outside of the always on PVP zone?

Just asking questions. I don't think anyone plays survival games for the deep combat trees or anything. Valheim and Enshrouded certainly don't have revolutionary combat by any stretch of the imagination. Can't speak for PVP faggotry games like RUST, but I imagine those are objectively inferior to other FPS games that aren't survival in the mechanics department as well.

edit - Ah if combat is like Conan but ranged actually kind of works, that's definitely a step up in combat. Definitely no dark souls or anything close, but serviceable. AoC was pretty fun running as a private server for friends. I imagine DA will be as well, once they stop with the shared Deep Desert nonsense and let you host the entire game privately. The last thing most people who don't like PVP want in their game is... PVP.

They're never going to let you run this locally - they mentioned IP issues with Legendary Pictures and the Herbert Estate won't allow it.

And if you don't want to PVP in deep desert, I'm sure it is quite possible to do rat runs if you know what you're doing and you're smart. I do solo runs in extract shooters all the time vs. full teams. Sure, sometimes you die, but once you understand player behaviors it becomes pretty easy to avoid getting outmatched or ambushed.

Oh I wasn't saying run locally. I mean like how they have AOC servers setup in g-portal. Currently they let you have "private servers" that are basically default with a couple of toggles but you still have a shared always on PVP deep desert with other "private servers." Which isn't a private server at all. I'm fairly certain given Funcom's track record that at some point down the line they will change that to "your own deep desert" with more toggles (AOC just kept expanding the options you could modify in the server settings) so that they are actually private servers and not the bullshit they are calling private servers now.

And yeah like I said, it's not technically unavoidable if you never actually get into a pvp fight in the deep desert, but it's the being subjected to it part that the people who dislike pvp are not in favor of. Like me! I'll wait until Funcom gets to the point where they still want the game to be relevant and they fix the retarded private server shared Deep Desert stuff and have a setting to disable the Landsraad unless they completely change the implementation.

That's fair. In fact, I was talking about the 7 Days 2.0 release, and that combat is jank as fuck too.

Appreciate the responses though. Instead of just calling everyone a faggot for "only watching videos and not playing." I'm 50/50 on this one still. Seems like people in this thread either love it or hate it. No one is just like "the game is middling."

During various dev interviews, they mentioned they will keep an eye on the landsraad stuff. They already have it baked in that they can rotate out voting options or change up the "bingo card" requirements

Yeah - I have a feeling it will go the way of the New World stuff or become more fluff than substance over time. And will almost certainly have a series of options down the road for the private servers to toggle.

I just don't understand how developers can implement systems when all evidence shows to them being abused or broken from previous iterations and think it's a good idea, especially when you know they are going to modify/disable the shitty features somewhere down the line. Like having a popup for dick pills whenever you open your inventory. Yeah, it's going to sell some dick pills, but the overwhelming majority of people are going to be turned off by it. Then like 6 months after release, you put in an option to not see dick pill ads if you don't want to.

Put the option to 'opt out' of the stupid shit right from the start. Like a flag you click on that for whatever week you are in you aren't subject to the landsraad stuff. Players of the "winning faction" don't get the 33% damage bonus vs. you, or any other benefit. Create an alternative to the Deep Desert for people who don't want to engage in pvp faggotry so they don't have to. Or just make it so you can flag if you want to (you know, pvp enabled. Shockingly new idea, I know) and make whatever resource nodes in the Deep Desert semi-random so that the pvp faggots don't throw a fit when they can't gank someone who doesn't want to pvp on a node.

There are ways where you can make both groups pretty happy. Except the pvp faggots who just want to gang rape solo players; no matter what you do, unless you intentionally just let them ruin the game so that nobody plays, they will complain because they can't intentionally ruin other people's days. Because they are faggots.

Honestly, man, it sounds like you're just looking for this thread to talk you out of buying it.

Everything has to be so damn polarizing now. Plenty of people have shared that they're having a good time and what you can expect for your money. Somehow, that gets twisted into thinking the game is either a Top 5 all-time masterpiece or total garbage. Why can't a game just be good and fun anymore? It always has to be one extreme or the other.

If you enjoyed Conan Exiles, this offers a similar experience - but with a sci-fi twist and the added immersion of the Dune universe, which Funcom handles really well. The character models aren’t quite as high-quality as you might expect (especially considering how fantastic the environments look), but they’re solid enough. Otherwise, you’re easily looking at 100+ hours of gameplay - maybe more, depending on how into building you get. The core gameplay loop is familiar: gather materials, craft basic gear, fight basic enemies, level up, unlock better recipes, and repeat the cycle with stronger tools and tougher mobs.

TL;DR: If you build your first Ornithopter and don’t have a blast flying it across the desert... I genuinely don’t know what to tell you other than you're a huge faggot.

I want to get this but Ill wait for the $50 version on the 10th. I know, $20 is not much and it isnt, but fuck this early release BS for more money.

Combat was janky in the open Beta, it feels way better. Story is interesting.

I don’t generally love survival games but this has enough mmo mixed in that it’s really enjoyable. I don’t give two shits about pvp. Funcom did say you can buy from the auction house any materials that are in the deep desert. Idk I’m just playing and enjoying the ride, we are old fucks and I don’t have any interest in pushing the bleeding edge and poopsocking my way through this.

Eh, while I hate the whole "early release" bullshit too, the $70 version does get you the season DLC pass too.

I think it comes down to if the early experience is the only experience or not. There's zero chance this game doesn't have some major price drops before real game altering/adding DLC comes out. It's Funcom. Whenever the first DLC in the season (jfc I wish companies would stop releasing shit in season formats. This isn't an e-sport; there are no seasons) comes out, the base game may have already dropped to 50% or something and the total price would be a bit cheaper. But is it being cheaper worth missing out on whatever the initial rush is? I guess if you like PVP you definitely want to get in early on the "official" servers so you can be the only players in a few weeks on said servers? Dunno!

Is there anything that someone would miss out on that is not replicable in 6 months when the game is $20?

Ah does the auction house require people to get the resources from the Deep Desert to auction or is the auction house some kind of npc thing where you have to bid against other players or something to get the resources? You know, good ole buyer vs. other buyer that definitely isn't pvp *winks*

Not many people are posting on auction house yet, because unless you have your own ride, it costs 2500 per flight (one way).

I suspect the market will see more life once more people have ornithopters
