This game didnt get a lot of advertisement. So it will grow by word of mouth. I have a feeling it will live or die by the end game. If the end game is any good, people will talk about it and it will grow. From that video above, it seems like its got plenty with more to be added.

One thing im finding a pain in the ass so far is having to rebuild your base all the fucking time, or at least until you get the copter. And with that moving all of your shit you collected too, or jsut leaving it behind which is a total waste of time. Or your stuck traveling to BFE every time you stock up on shit. I know this goes away when you get the chopper, but still its not until like end of the mid game. It would profit from some kind of portal system or some shit. I know its not in the whole Dune lore to have any type of portals so there is that. But its a huge bummer. Or it would be nice to just literally move the base somehow without having to grind up all the mats and all the shit again for the copy. Just make a damn literal copy for some cash or some shit instead of just copying the blueprint.

This is also why most people just build fucking boxes, until end game lol.
you really only need one base over in mysa tarill, near the ramp that goes up to the eastern shield wall, below iron watch, east of the crossroads. easy buggy accesses to almost everything, with zero worm risk. you can drive your buggy from mysa tarill to jabal easily for erythrite crystals and steel making. no worm risk. even before you have the buggy or thopter. it's the most convenient spot to put your base. not to mention the sand over there is full of hidden treasure, spice, flour, and there is a shipcrash spawn area there. the only other base you might need is one in shoel, but good luck with that because of the limited space, that's not full of radiation.

That whole NW area is perfect, centers you on everything.

Got around to finishing the main story quest (for now anyways, they'll continue it in later patches) - was actually more interesting than I thought it would be. I didn't expect the twist at the very end. It was also cool to see the quests introduce more characters from the books - this Dune "What if?" involving Jessica actually going along with the Bene Gesserit's original plans does let them play around with a lot of different ideas.

I got up just in time for a patch.

I started last night. I had a crazy woman chase me all the way back to my base. I ran upstairs and she ran in after me haha. Figured the door would stop her.

Why the fuck is patch day in the afternoon on Friday you Euro cucks?

I'm playing casually but enjoying the game more than I expected. Got eaten by two worms so far. The first was a learning experience; the second was me being a dumb-ass.

Bless the Maker and all His Water. Bless the coming and going of Him. May His passing cleanse the world.

We got out of Hagga Basin yesterday, and man, this one is addicting as shit so far. A lot of it is probably the newness. And bonus is that there aren't shit tons of guides out there laying everything out.

Think we'll be getting to steel real soon. Will probably end up moving the base again when that happens.

This corner is perfect imo. Puts you between all the things you need going forward. iron/steel in the center, aluminum in the north, crystals in the east(cobalt paste), jasimine crystals later SW and Odham area NW . With the final crafting tier all in the deep desert.

This game is just too complex for me, idk maybe I need to read a guide or something. I'm at the part where I start constructing a base. I made mine but I don't understand what any of it means, or what the point is

I lost a lot of shit today. So I decided to go to Deep Desert and get some spice because I was low. About 22km out, I find a big patch of it and no one is there. I load up my assault orni because I had cargo instead of missiles (it can hold 1k weight) with a fuckton of spice (I had the boots + compactor with low worm aggro, so I could just sit in the spice patch gathering spice without the worm coming constantly). But before I go, I decide to get a nearby control point because I was really close to a reward tier. So as I am sitting there, some dude was apparently camping the spot with his scout orni that is rigged for attack, so he rises up and unloaded a bunch of missiles. I tried to thrust out, but had a bad angle and then I started to lose control because of damaged wings. Eventually I crash land and he is just blowing the shit out of my orni. In retrospect I should have just let myself die, but instead I summon my stored scout orni and try to escape. He catches up and downs that, then I die. Worm eats the wrecks of both orni, then because I forgot to set my base in DD as a spawn, I spawn where I zoned in (which has jackshit nearby). 1 guy tries to fly me on top of his scout to the taxi, but apparently the game doesn't let you travel between sectors like that, so I instantly end up in quicksand and die. I have no water, so eventually I find a cave and have to craft a makeshift blood extractor and start surviving off the blood of NPCs so I don't die. Eventually the guy who blew up all my shit felt bad about it and decided to try to give me a ride to taxi, but I ported to quicksand again. So my only option is die and respawn in Hagga, but you lose ALL your stuff if you do that. He holds some of my gear, I respawn in Hagga, make a scout orni that is half scrap parts, and fly back. Guy gave me the stuff, which was cool of him.

Moral to the story: fuck control points and next time I'm bringing anti-air for my character

You remember correctly, Ark was almost unplayable and optimized so poorly it was crashing systems, and when Ascended released, it still had the same issues, and still does. Ark is the best, worst game you'll play. Its super entertaining...when its not being a pain in the dick.

I didn't play ark on release, but I had a ton of fun playing it with friends a few years back. It was the fun sort of jank.

Where would you build there? Or just anywhere in that 4 region convergence?

Basically pick a nice spot in that area. I will say the north end is up on a huge cliff, so if you build up there, would need to drive your buggy around and down for iron, carbon crystals, ethyrite crystals etc.

I know a lot that are on the south middle, near all the iron. Myself picked a little north basically in the middle of a rock formation right by the zone line of the east/west areas.

Just curious, but is this a case of hard counters? Ie, this missile battery armed Onrithopter is just going to murder your non-anti-air equipped Ornithopter 10/10 times unless the other guy goes linkdead in the middle of combat? Like oldschool warriors spec'd into improved revenge fighting rogues?

That sounds like a rough series of events, combined with just the general nature of survival games reaaally pounding home the idea of measured backups and not overreaching.

So right now there are complaints on Orni balance

Realistically speaking, there are 2 main Ornis (carrier is almost never used outside large guilds moving spice crawlers/buggys): Scout and Assault

Scout is tier 4, aluminum. You can also get t5 and t6 varieties using the requisite materials. Scouts have limited module space, but they can be equipped with missiles at the expense of no booster and no cargo.

Assault at tier 5, duraluminum. There is also a t6 variety. Assaults have more module space, letting you equip a booster and either missiles or cargo (can't do missiles+cargo)

Assault has more armor and HP. However, it's top speed is much lower than scout. It also has a much worse turn radius, which means it can't do much to avoid missile hits. Your only counter measure to missiles is to try to dodge them, which is hard when your orni moves like a dump truck. The only real advantage the assault has is if you activate the booster, you can gain altitude much more quickly than a scout. However, that isn't the advantage you think it is.

For one, missile aiming isn't done by pointing a stationary reticle on your target that is permanently aligned with the nose and firing, rather, it is based on where your reticle is pointing in general. That means you can use free look and the missile will shoot where the reticle is pointing. So this removes the assault climb advantage, because the scout pilot can just use freelook mouse and shoot straight up without losing speed in their craft.

Secondly, what people are doing is basically taking a cheap tier 4 scout, but replacing the engines, wings, and missiles with higher tier versions. So basically it is like when people take a cheap Honda civic and shove a bunch of racing shit into it to make it much faster than the base model. As a result, you have a craft that is highly maneuverable, faster than any other craft in the game, and does close to the damage the assault orni does. So even though the Assault orni is tankier, it can't beat a scout in a 1v1 because the scout can easily dance around the orni and never get hit, all the while blowing the shit out of the assault.

To make things more annoying, the only reason people want to even use the assault right now is it can carry twice the weight of the scout with a standard cargo module (1000 weight instead of 500). When it takes 20 minutes to fly to the parts of the deep desert where you find T6 resources, having more cargo space is a premium. But because you can't do cargo + missiles, you're basically just a defenseless cargo hauler. And even if you had missiles, the way the ornis are balanced right now, you'd probably still lose unless the scout pilot fucked up. Plus infantry anti-air is locked behind T6 stuff, so it isn't even viable to land and just shoot them out of the sky for most people. Like you can get a "free" lasgun from a quest, but it requires you handin a MK6 cutray, which requires you a) make the advanced fabricator which needs T6 stuff and spice b) craft the T6 cutray which needs T6 stuff and spice. While you can get spice in limited quantities in Hagga, realistically the only way you're getting usable quantities is to go deeper into the deep desert PVP area.

Summed up: Scout Orni needs a nerf in terms of viability as an attack craft against Assault, so that either means nerfing the scout orni and doing something like movespeed or turn penalties when you have missiles equipped or worse damage, or just buffing the assault orni. It is kind of stupid that the literal attack orni is the worst attacker, especially considering the costs involved.

It’s not, but some things need to be looked at is all.
like, no vehicle damage from crashing sounds nice till you have people kamikaze’ing in their or after on people running on the sand (which is happening now) Lol

I'd rather they disable player damage from vehicles than adding vehicle damage to collision. The complaints will change from "that thopter crushed me" to "my buggy hit a pebble and instantly exploded"

Plus I save about 15 minutes on my aluminum run by yeeting my buggy off the cliff after I'm done lol
