Phase 2 is easier if you ride around behind him and wack on his foot. He'll roll away instead of attacking, rinse repeat. Just have to juke a little bit away if he can get in a swing before you get back behind him.

I'll remember that for next time, but for whatever reason the timing on some of his attacks took me a bit to learn....think mainly due to how delayed they were.

Finally resuming this a bit, after being continuously reminded how much I don't like playing other modern games now.

PS5 NG+: Basically done with the plat, just need to get Lichdragon done and make sure I don't miss anything for that. I'll go ahead and finish NG+ as well, cause I'm like 60% through the main quest anyway. NG+ is much shorter than NG, and is definitely lacking most of the mystique. Map is filled in and everything's just so...easy. Plus I'm using sorcery now and can pretty much gimp any fight with that, the rare times I run into any problems.

PS4 NG: Started a Samurai up. Finding it much easier than my PS5 run, either because Samurai > Wretch or because I'm just way better and know my way around. Surprised that PS4 version doesn't look that much worse than PS5 and even the framerate seems good. Get the impression it's like 48 while PS5 is 60. I don't think it's 30. Only times where it really feels deficient visually is when I look at trees (they look much more blobby rather than having a mass of clearly-defined leaves). The light effects are also far inferior to PS5 without ray-tracing.

Regardless, I got a second Uchi and I've just started leveling those up. Gotta figure out what ashes I need to make one of them frostbite, so that the powerstance can inflict both bleed and frostbite. I guess making the other one a Blood Uchi would also increase the blood effect?

Also slew the dragon in Caelid and leveled Vigor up like 20 points right out of the gate, then defeated Margit without much stress. Next is Godrick, who gave me a lot of grief in the first playthrough. Will be interesting to fight him without summoning help this time or using a shield.

I definitely feel that sentiment already as how can it keep topping itself when all of it has been stellar so far, but it's the journey rather than the destination kind of thing for this game I guess.

Adding to list of grievances - YES I WANT TO USE A FLASK TO GET BACK ON MY GOD DAMN DONKEY.

Day 4: Just got a few hours in. Scarlet rot can eat my butt, but at least I can cast Flame Cleanse Me now. Took out a few bosses and another dragon which are easier to kill than most normal trash for whatever reason. Quit as I started descending down tower of caelid I think it was called. If it wasn't for ghost messages scattered in random spots I don't think I'd ever have willingly explored some of these areas. Hyped to wrap up the rest of caelid this weekend and head back north. Is there any major penalty for killing merchants? I already killed one when it spawned some invasion NPC in its place and in my blood lust I murked him too when he came back. Do they all drop bells to give to that lady in the roundtable?

They all drop bell bearings and there’s no penalty that’s known. Feel free to kill them all for convenience. Pay attention to see if you notice any similarities in their attacks.

After thinking about it some, my only complaint I have with Elden Ring is that it's so large with so many bosses that when I finally completed the game it felt rather meaningless. The final boss was basically just yet another boss. The final area yet another area. The game didn't really build to a climax in my opinion. Sort of a mind-blowing criticism, but the game is so damn epic from start to finish that when everything is epic....nothing is?

Dark Souls 3 was the same way. DLCs fixed that, though.

Sister Friede and pretty much all The Ringed City felt pretty damn epic

The Sister Friede fight was a goddamn masterpiece.

I feel the same way about Darkeater Midir. Soul of Cinder sort of has an "epic" feel to it, but only when Gwyn's music is playing. Otherwise, he's pretty forgettable.

Slave Knight Gael is probably best all around if you factor in the atmosphere of being at the end of time and the lightning storm in phase 2.

Think they may have tried to do something like that with Elden Beast. Like they were going for epic and artsy, but not grasping that players fucking hate fights where they spend the entire time chasing the boss down. The fight is a fucking slog like Micolash

Yeah, IMO the real final battle of Souls 3 is the fight at the end of time with Gael. (That's the last fight in the last DLC right?)

Never played Souls 3 (saving it) but I know all kinds of stuff about it at this point. The Ringed City DLC in particular is something I find super-interesting and I think it gives the game the capstone it needed.

how else do you develop the characters beyond the game? There aren't THAT many characters. cards isn't it. So what then?

One of the nights cavalry in Liurnia drops an ice ashes of war that gives frostbite.
