Anyone try solo play?
I did a few just for remembrance runs. The game totally is not balanced around it. Boss fights will just be a slog fest because you will be under leveled and under geared. I heard there is a patch in the works to fix this but apparently there's already a mod as well? Luckily the runs I was doing you could get the item and just suicide out on the first boss.

One issue I have in pugs is when they DC you're just fucked basically. Also you can't just end the run because it tries to put you back in the same session. Pretty fucking retarded and not sure that got past QA.

This game is hard as shit. I'm sure a lot of it is finding the meta, as most Souls games go but holy shit. Just tried the centaur boss. These fights are insane. The cerberus is literally a tutorial boss for Nightlords.

Day 1 - Run around and pick up flask upgrades from the churches and target the mini-dungeons that have the element specific to the nightlord you're queued for (they show up on the map). If you have time, hit a mine but don't use the stone yet.

Day 2 - Kill field bosses (the major ones that are marked on the map in day 2, but not in day 1), hit a mine if you didn't on day 1, and do the under area of the center castle for an easy-ish boss fight and a couple of chances for big upgrades.

With that you should be lvl 11+ heading into the final night which is plenty to kill the boss.

Other than like the very first camp you run through, ignore the trash enemies, and remember to equip weapons along the way that have helpful passives even if you're not going to use them.

What weapons are you using the stones on? I'm guessing starting weapon is S/A tier for every class fully upgraded?

Also, this was me last game with my friend.

The bosses each have an element they are weak too and take like 50% or more damage from that element - you want the stones available to upgrade whatever weapon you find that is that element mostly in the event you only ever find a normal version of it.

Has anyone seen a breakdown on how much impact the +1 and +2 to stats on relics are? +2 str in Elden Ring context is garbage, but there's no way to see in game what your actual stat numbers are so it's unclear how good that is here. If your starting str is like 5, then a +2 relic is huge etc.

While I find the game fun in ways, it's way too fucking rushed. I don't think I've fought the dog one time with anything higher than level 10. We're clearly missing something while trying to accumulate levels. We tried to focus on churches and just bosses to level but it seems like even worse exp.

Was watching Peeve and Oroboros who I guess are in the top 1% of souls players in terms of knowledge and ability. Playing with their squads, usually Level 9-10 by end of day 1, level 14-15 by night 3. Then trying pugs, instantly down to 7-9, 10-12, which makes a huge difference.

From watching them, their "reviews" condensed down from listening to them would be something like

- Watching a stream of a team with voice chat doesn't give an accurate representation of how the game will be just queuing up with randoms. If people don't go the optimal route, you have to follow since you can't do the optimal route alone, which will limit your run.

- Timer is so fast it doesn't really allow for mistakes if you want to beat the last boss, which all progress is tied to. What enemies to kill, what enemies and areas to rush past to kill the boss. (Watching them do the volcano or ice mountain for the legendary upgrades is just funny. Just rush past everything in the volcano for the path down, or skyrimskip up the side of the ice mountain passing everything. But.... if they don't do that, they don't have time to do it since if you stop to do anything in those places, the circle will close before you even get to fight the bosses.)

- Not being in an actual team will also limit you by not having voice chat to call out items you get to swap around as you might get abilities that are really useful for someone else. This can add a lot of power. Not to mention some classes really function better with communication (like the mage one, forget its name). Also for stagger chains on the last bosses, since nearly all of them have constant massive AE abilities that are very suseptible to staggers.

- There also isn't much variation, though assume that will come with patches. But further added that another problem with the variation is also that many events / bosses are "traps" for time. They are not equal. Some are more optimal than others, and once you learn this, everything else is skipped. (Example, they will run into a castle, look down a hallway towards a boss, and with a glance know to call out for killing the boss, or just skipping it because it will take 1 minute to kill instead of 20 seconds)

- It's zoomer Elden Ring.

Patching it to allow for better solo play might make me more interested, but the gameloop itself isn't for me. I enjoy the exploration and taking my time in souls games. This is the opposite.

That said, wouldn't be surprised if this is one of the biggest financial successes for FromSoft since I assume the budget for this is a fraction of their main games reusing 95% of their assets, and it has already sold 3+ million copies.

Well after 18+ hours, I've killed bosses 1-4 and tried the 5th one once. (first boss have killed twice).

From that experience the first boss is the 2nd easiest boss so far.

I watched someone fight the flying boss and it's easily the worst boss Fromsoft has ever made

As I've gotten further in to this (3 bosses) it's become very apparent that they need to immediately overhaul their matchmaking or this game is going to literally become unplayable very quickly.

It divides up the available player pool so many times over that you can't actually find games via matchmaking even with 200k playing. Whatever your terrain alteration is, which bosses you select, which region you're in, there's so many qualifiers on what you can match with that it just stops functioning nearly immediately once all the options start to open up.

Yea why do terrain alterations save past the matches is beyond me. Japs are notorious for fucking up MP so bad in all of their games and it shows here. Game needs some serious tweaks soon or it'll be dead within a week or two.

You can at least go sleep to get rid of the world alterations if you want, but it's still just another thing fragmenting the player base.

You'll basically never be able to do any of the remembrance stuff unless you have friends to play with, because only ONE person in a game is allowed to have a remembrance active and if you enable yours you can't matchmake with anyone else that has it active.

Just the most non-functional 2005 Japan bullshit you can imagine. If it was anyone from FROM there'd already be 50,000 youtube videos roasting this game for being a huge piece of shit/flop.

This game is fantastic but punishing to a level it is detrimental to its fun. Each class has a niche you build towards and while the relics are key, it gonna be solved as best in slot soon if it hasn’t been already.

Lack of comms with rando teammates is the real issue. Folks who multi-ping evergaols without a key to open it or kick ass on day one then want to go beat their head against the center castle right away on day two need a verbal smack down.

Anyone know how to better switch targets? Swear to god the lockon sticks and takes multiple seconds to switch targets, especially when trying to target a downed teammate? I am on controller.

The targeting is fucked from my experience. No idea why it sucks so much but it's not even as smoothe as legacy dark souls.

Hopefully they fix it, it is my main source of fuck ups. When every second counts I can’t be staring at my target clicking furiously to target or untarget.
