Is this released now or am I misunderstanding?
1.0 is planned for Fall, so in like 6 months or so. This is the last major patch before 1.0, so people are excited about the future 1.0, not so much about this patch specifically(which also doesn't add much in terms of content, it's largely a qol/system rework patch so if you've played the previous version there's not going to be much to do anyway).

Reminder. This is tomorrow. They've been releasing videos.

1.0 patch notes.

1.0 seems like it will be a pretty big update even from previous.

I would call this one of the biggest EA success stories I've ever seen. Like, I mentioned Valhiem was fantastic at release, but felt EA didn't really add all that much. the game didn't evolve or really grow. (freely admitting, I did not keep up to date with the last 4? new zones)

Enshrouded evolved. far beyond what I expected. Adding water. wow.

1.0 adding logicgates..

The combat.. was always the weakest element. (itemization as the second weakest.) enemy variety weak as well.

1.0 Combat: changes and additions:

Enshrouded has a handcrafted world. with voxels. you can dig. your base doesn't reset, but the world will reset outside it. so no mega sructures sadly. tunnels/bridges. (without using your bases. which you can do. you get 16) I absolutely would make bases spaced out in the world. build towers, that I could jump off from and glide around the world.

There are secrets everywhere.

Player suggestions we included because hey that sounded like a good idea

  • Shader compilation times after updates or GPU driver installations have been significantly reduced. Okay that one’s a trick we were always gonna improve it.
  • A new skill allows building in a free-flying mode. This makes it so much easier to build in hard-to-reach areas.
  • The boss in the Albaneve Summits has been reworked with a substantial nerf to its health, and with added opportunities to deal damage with melee weapons. Your twig collections will thank us. Also, the arena has been changed to make it easier for players to stay on solid ground or get back to it after jumping or being pushed over the ledge.
  • Scattered loot can now continuously be picked up in a larger radius. Either on demand by holding a button or automatically by sheer magnificence of being the Flameborn (by setting it so in the gameplay setting). Excluded from this is loot in containers, from enemies or special quest items.
  • Players can now choose between the classic and the new, more realistic character proportions, either when creating a new character or by changing an existing one at the Barber. Perfect for those of you who weren’t so keen on hobbit roleplay.
  • Storage chests can now be upgraded. This can be done in place without having to empty them and pick them up first. Huge win for feng shui enthusiasts.
  • Updraft charge duration is now configurable in world settings, so if you preferred instant updraft, you can have your cake and eat it, too.
  • Custom map markers and chests can now be freely named. We know that some of you are VERY excited about this one.
  • Fishing progression has been improved significantly; players can now hunt for specific fish by selecting the designated bait for each tier. Also, chances for higher quality fish have been improved.
  • And so, so much more..

Looks cool but I'm still playing Valheim for the first time. I'll probably wait until the first major content release for Enshrouded.

Yeah I bought this way back and have just been letting it cook. I considered starting it recently until I saw they were reworking combat and some other stuff. I am also in the middle of a Valheim playthrough as well as sinking time into Wardogs.

Good to hear they have added a lot. Looking forward to playing it with my crew.

Just finished doing basically everything in Dragonwilds 1.0. Enshrouded's looking really good but I don't know if I have it in me to do another survival game this soon. Anyone played both and able to say how they're similar/different? I know Enshrouded is actual voxel-based but that's about it. What I liked most about Dragonwilds was that the survival/crafting stuff was a means to completing the questing and combat part of the game, rather than the other way around.

Enshrouded feels kind of like a Zelda game where you can make bases. In my play through a year ago I tuned the survival requirements way down so I could focus more on running dungeons and solving puzzles

Similar to Enshrouded that. It's much more action based than something like Valheim. Quick movement, very responsive. It's built to explore. Combat has been vastly improved in EA, and like Caliane said, it's one of the better/best EAs based on actually expanding the world and what you can do in it. World is handcrafted, so feels very good to explore similar to Dragonwilds I guess. I like this much more than Valheim in that regard. Hidden nooks and crannies everywhere. Since it is voxel based and environments are destructive, you can also find places underground and hidden behind things you can dig/blow up.

They've now added full voice acting on lore scrolls (that keep playing as you pick them up). Lore and world is actually good, but rarely read them. There is lots.

Gameloop is exploration, can travel everywhere, but you usually have quests on the map giving you hints on areas where NPCS are.

Quests can be world quests you need to complete to expand the areas you can explore tied to "flame" level, where unless you unlock that level you die instantly if you go past certain points, but doesn't feel like invisible walls. Progression is good.

You also get exploration quests you find along the way and quests from NPCs you find and can put around your base. They don't do much (don't think even in 1.0) except walk around your base, but as you get quests to find them you get access to their inventories which let you craft more stuff. NPCs are usually placed in combat areas where you have to fight up until you find their "spirits" then you summon them at the base. One of the first you get is a world quest to find a blacksmith, then when summoning him, it unlocks a forge, then later the NPC itself offer you a quest to find an item that lets you upgrade it to make even higher tier items. Pretty much all NPCs work like that. You'll often have quests "locked" as you can see where they are, but you can't get to those areas yet.

Dragonwilds has more intricate crafting. Valheim has a more "immersive" feel to it. Enshrouded though is the best "game" of them in my opinion. It's just very fun to explore.

Excited to play, but hard wanting to play with other people when there's personal progress and server-wide progress. There's always those dudes who can play nonstop (me) but will wait for others, guys who just BOLT for the quest line, and the guys who are all butthurt they're left behind when they log in the first day for 4 hours, then never again until day 5 and everyone's passed them. Really hard to sync up and stay synced with people in these games when there's separate progress.

Yeah, having an issue w/ my group where few even want to play these, and others only want to play them but only co-op together. When I get into a game I want to play it every night. So I've resorted to just spinning up games I wanna play on my server and tinkering with them as my ADHD brain allows, and whoever ends up coming along in the group, does.

So whatever, will have my 'forever world' of Valheim, Enshrouded, etc going on the server, and if one of them ever wants to arrange a 'we play every thursday night' type thing I'm happy to setup an instance for that effort and participate. I think that's probably what we'll end up doing for Windrose once more of them pick it up. Currently doing that with Sunderfolk couch co-op, every other weekend.

yeah. I don't even have any friends, so just play them solo.

also, I won't really be able to jump in and give commentary on 1.0. I'm still finishing up a Wrath of the Righteous playthrough, in act 5 atm. and then I did say I would give Valhielm 1.0 a proper playthrough first.

It's out! Let's see how high I can pump these rookie numbers.

EnshroudedPlaytime.JPG

Honestly though I'm surprised my playtime is that high, as while I have been playing since EA launched and restarting with like all but 1 of the major updates, the furthest I've ever gotten is the mountain area, I didn't beat it, and I've never built any grand structures or anything.

Oh well. As the kids say, "let's fucking go."

Oh cool, I remember buying this right after valheim and being pretty disappointed in it and deciding to just wait for 1.0. I have a neighbor that was pumping this up a few months ago about the progress that was made since I gave up and he had mentioned recommending just waiting for 1.0 for a completely new game. I'll give it a shot. I remember the gamma settings being a bitch in this one between the day and night cycle, I had to tweak things based on what time of day it was, hopefully that's cleaned up.

Hmmm Do I start this and compile shaders for the 32423432th time, or do I wait for the quick follow up patch and compile shaders then?

This is the only game I have seen where about 20% of my "play time" is shader compilation.

They've sped that up considerably. Think it was less than a minute to compile when patching to the 1.0 version.

They've also added a lot of new things, small new things scattered around everywhere in the starting area, new paths with chests and such. Even in the tutorial cave I found 3? new places. Small, but still, nice to think of all the things they've added elsewhere too.

Survival is a thing though. Where there used to be 2 mobs, add 3. Once I walked into the first shroud place I got attacked by 6, then just after them 6 more. It's a bit much considering they close to twoshot me. Think ranged / magic is a must at this difficulty.
