What makes us different from other servers? The first thing to mention is the professional IT background of the operators. If we're gonna do something, we do it right. We are financially independent and do not rely on donations to run the server. Unlike other Velious/Classic servers, we always give the player the freedom of choice. No matter if he wants to play strictly classic or if he prefers for example the Luclin models, it is possible. Our server is not based on another copy of PEQ. The database and the quests are unique.

Also, the "new zones" thing. Is it kind of like Shards of Dalaya in that way? The zones are actual older EQ zones that have been changed around to fit your story?

I really don't know where I said that we would have new zones. I have not said or implied that in a single word. We don't have any new zones. The focus is on having the old zones as they were in Velious' time. Enhanced with the Elder Dragons content. But these are minimal compared to the existing quests. There are exactly 3,721 quests, of which about 300 are our content.

Pre-nerf items: yup, sure, of course :)

WHY YOU SHOULD PLAY ON ELDER DRAGONS​

  • Our slogan "made for heroes" runs through the entire balancing. Those who take high risks, be it through a complex dungeon or by killing yellow and red creatures, get a much better reward. If you take it easy, you will also progress, but much more slowly.
  • You can achieve a lot of things without raids, only through intensive EXP grinding. For many things there are alternative ways to achieve them besides the raids. Many of us have families and may not be able to raid for hours without interruption. Our alternative systems don't block these players from getting cool items. They just have to put in a lot of time.
  • Our ping is perfect for EU based players and good for US players.
  • We have no, or very few, forced restrictions. For example, the player is free to choose whether he wants to play with modern Luclin models or with the proven classic models. We do not suppress the map functionality, and so on.
  • We have an instance system for raid zones. No guild can block the server. However, the instances are not for free. The players have to "work" for them - to maintain the balance and to keep an advantage for the particularly good raiders.
  • No EXP penalties for classes or races. Play what you like to play!
  • We do not have a super complex policy, only a few simple and clear rules.
  • We have every freedom to expand the server in any direction. New zones, old zones with new storylines and much more will be added over time. Always with care, so that the famous "EQ Feeling" that we all love so much is preserved.
  • The servers are professionally hosted in a data center. It is made to stay!
  • We have created a new way to travel. It does not make druids or wizard ports useless, but if you have to, you can reach your destination without their services. Of course balanced. The travels are paid for with an in-game currency which you get for killing strong enemies.

Once things became easy, we would make "burn down squads". We would have 1 or 2 groups every raid that holds nothing but DPS classes. Wizards or Rogues. Their goal was to get the exp for EVERY trash monster you encounter before getting to the boss. I used to love my automatic invite to these groups, but at the same time, I know other people would have liked to get the kill on at least SOMETHING.
Do you have a way with this new game to make the raid group setup a little different, by having every person on the raid share the experience for each kill? This way healers, tanks and other beneficial classes that don't focus on DPS can enjoy raid EXP as well?

That's a good point.

As you yourself described, it was part of the fun when DPS groups competed with each other in the raid. In addition, the raid EXP is hardly suitable to make real progress. You would also have to make the EXP dependent on the raid size to prevent abuse on the one hand and to make the EXP noticeable for everyone on the other hand. As always in EQ, there are many aspects to consider. On top of that, often certain groups don't want to get the faction hits from raid targets (e.g. if someone is on dragon faction, but the raid still kills dragons). If we would distribute the EXP to the whole raid, this system would have to change accordingly.

So we think it's better for the overall fun if we keep the way we're used to.

Update:
  • Our server will open on July 1, 2021 at 8 AM EST (5 AM PST / 1 PM GMT / 15:00 CEST/MESZ)

  • The Race of Heroes will start on July 9, midnight EST (July 8, 9 PM PST / 5 AM GMT / 07:00 CEST/MESZ)
    When registering, characters must not be higher than level 30. Otherwise, registering them for the quest will reset their level to 30.

Yes.
There is an NPC that rewards you with extremely good items if you have certain tradeskill abilities. It's not easy to achieve, but even a best-in-slot item is included in the rewards. You'll find out for yourself.

Finally the time has come. In a few hours the Elder Dragons server will be unlocked.

  • We will have a daily happy hour with 50% bonus experience at 6pm EST for 60 minutes.
  • We will celebrate the United States Independence Day on July 4th with 24 hours of double experience.

    All events will be announced ingame, the experience bonus only applies to kills, not quests.

Lol I remember that. I remember pogrowth raiding was particularly good exp. I always got a slot in that group, and we got probably 95% of the kills.

so, absolutely no sleight intended, but how is it that the official Elder Dragons forums and these here have been so quiet about this project?
was this all done without any publicity until this post?

I'm really interested, signed up, DL'd and ready to log into EQ for the first time in like 15 years... just surprised that there isn't more noise being made!
