I have been busy trying to get some gear and such and along the way I decided to do a little math with regards to damage to mana in an effort to be as efficient as I can when kiting. I was a little surprised by a few things so thought I would post here what I was looking at to see if anything I was seeing was off in any way.

The first thing I did was to just take the Lucy spell data and multiply the damage per tick times the number of ticks on each spell to get a max dmg number. Then, I divided that by the mana cost of the spell to get a dmg per mana number. Now.. ALL THINGS BEING EQUAL (meaning assuming that spell focus was uniform across all spell types and kinda ignoring the fact that dot extension AA's would apply to all of these spells anyway) these numbers, while not exactly being accurate as to dmg to mana, can still be taken as a kind of score on how efficient each spell is compared to all the others.
All rank 2 spells

5.711 Ivrikdal's Pallid Haze 2
5.99 Pyre of Hazarak 2
6.698 Pyre of Marnek 2
6.754 Ignite Potential 2
7.281 Halstor's Grasp 2
7.512 Doom 2
7.548 Ignite Thoughts 2
8.395 Termination 2
8.402 Mortification 2
9.658 Halstor's Pallid Haze 2
10.220 Pyre of the Piq'a 2
10.894 Binaesa Venom 2
11.422 Pyre of the Forsaken 2
11.782 Viscious Darkness 2
13.990 Wuran's Decay 2
14.002 Mortification + Plant 2
15.779 Grip of Zalikor 2
15.856 Blazing Shadow 2
16.923 Splirt 2
17.353 Coruscating Shadow 2
30.872 Necrotizing Wounds 2
34.515 Pernicious Wounds 2

The last two spells were kinda odd in how efficient they were. Also, if dot extension AA's applied to they twice (by applying to the second portion of the effect) then they would be even far more efficient, but I do not think it does. I understand the benefit of the 30 second spells since it makes the spell hit much harder each tick since mobs typically tend to die pretty fast, especially in groups. However, are these numbers correct the way I am looking at them?

Currently I am 95. So I am looking at loading up Splirt (89 spell) over a lot of higher level ones simply due to how mana efficient it is. Granted it will not hit as hard, but if you cast 8 spells that are more mana efficient than 6 that hit harder, but do roughly the same amount of damage, you are getting more chances at gift procs for one. Is this list way off base?

The current state of the game is not about maximizing mana-efficiency. It is DPS. Downtime is not the mother fucker it once was, back in 1999~2005.

The game has changed: You now have out of combat regen, you have AA's like Death Bloom, you have a set full of items with +100 innate mana regen per tick, you have clickies that add +50 mana regen per tick, you have Lich mana regen, and a host of other mana saving/regen'ing items, abilities, and spells.

The faster a mob dies, the faster you can kill the next one.
  • Example 1: You could kill 10 mobs in 15 minutes, and Death Bloom/sit down for 2 minutes to get back to 100% mana
  • Example 2: You could kill 10 mobs in 25 minutes and never drop below 75% mana
The other consequence of using efficient, long duration dots, is that when the mob dies, you usually have 5-6 dots still stacks up on them at various points in their duration. All that efficiency you were saving was just lost because they never got a chance to do their full damage.

For soloing and grouping trash mobs: lead with your swarm pets and snare, stack your 3 fast dots, and rinse/repeat. If you are pulling multiple mobs at a time (you should), add Pyre of Marnek and Bineasa Venom after your 3 fast dots.

Speaking of Necros - for any noobs like myself - I just picked up Reluctant Benevolence the AA, and holy shit. Why did no one mention this AA? At rank 6 you can have it up at all times - procs a group heal on about 1/2 or more of your damage spells. With my shitty healing AAs I do 7k/14k crits. After PP and Death Bloom this is my favorite necro AA.

I just downloaded EQ and am going to give Test a try. I noticed that theWhat to do Firstlink in the first post requires a paid membership access to view. Is that info saved anywhere else, or are there any other recommended sites?

that link isnt needed at all, just make sure you select test server from the drop down menu and click play. After a few hours you should understand everything you need to know, if not general chat is normally 1 or 2 and just ask whatever.

/2 where do I buy me a mother fucking merc in this pile of shit?

just make sure to do the tutorial when you make your first character. pretty much everything you need to know is explained in there. some might consider it a tedious amount of reading, but its very worth it to check out what all the NPCs say if you've never EQd before.

They must have changed it in the in the past 6 months. I removed the link. Disappointing, as it was a wealth of knowledge.

I've been screwing around on Test the last few days. My old 65 warrior I quit in PoP is playing with the progression guild (Return to Glory) and I also copied my 95 / 8k AA SK over. I was pretty floored to find that my SK could solo PoTime. Legit solo, no merc, no box healer. I'm sure people could do this for a while, but something just felt wrong about the whole thing! lol. Lots of fun though.

Anyway, the reason for posting was to offer people some oldschool fun toys that I can copy over for some forum pals.

I have available:
Pre-Nerf CoS
Pre-Nerf Fungi Staff
Holgresh Beads
Scimitar of the Mistwalker

Look for Jysin or Jyson in game.

What software do people use to multibox now? EQW still? Heard some stuff about ISBoxer or something but doesn't that require you to sub to something?

ISBoxer has tools specifically for boxing, EQW doesn't really...unless you count fast switching and screen tiling/CPU limits and crap.

ISBoxer will actually allow you to send keystrokes to multiple sessions. So hitting 1 could cast tank stun, cleric heal, wizard nuke, mage pet attack and nuke, etc. Without "hacking" automation though boxing melee sucks due to positioning.

Yeah, I used to just use EQW and used a lot of macros and stuff. ISBoxer sounds pretty awesome. It requires a sub though I heard? Guess I could just look it up myself.

Haven't played in awhile, but they still update MQ2? That's free and if you have basic scripting knowledge you can have it do pretty much whatever you want.
