I highly doubt SoE will be the one to fix the PvP issue. Unless they have someone who had an epiphany while on the shitter one day and realized that trying to unify PvP and PvE rulesets and gear is a fruitless effort. Gear scaling basically ruins PvP. Until someone realizes this and just gives PvP fixed values and whatnot it'll be a constant shitfest.

Nah, been a PvPer since DAoC. It was just in EQ that I had no clue about mmo PvP. DAoC and other games changed that. Still with my DAoC guild griefing players to this day.

edit: EQ classic had a sort of PvP on some raid FFA servers. Guild vs Guild griefing at the endgame. Pulling whole zones onto the other guild's raid so we could take the dragon is still one of my best memories in all of gaming. That time during Kunark/Velious when our guild was fighting for top spot on the server was epic.
That last bit sounds fun as hell. Even on the losing end it has to be fun.

I really want a good mega server world pvp/pve game.

That sounds like Battleground/Arena PvP you're talking about, I certainly hope SOE has realized BG PvP is pointless in the age of the moba.

While I prefer FPS for my PvP, seems to me creating a fun PvP aspect to a game necessitates a level playing field gear wise. People SHOULD PvP for the competitive aspect of it, not the gear. Why not have PvP strip away all magical bonuses and effects from armor or gear? Choices become tactical and situational and more actually r/p/s.

Yeah, there is something to be said for FFA open world mobs. It's a gaming element that was never really explored enough in other mmos (and unintended consequences in EQ). But it was awesome.

Every server dealt with it in different ways. Most had rotations, even our server did for a very short time until it blew up in a glorious nuke ofFuck You All. We had an aussie guild and and asian guild that didn't care about rotations. It didn't help that they were also very good. Plus our main NA/EU rivals were also competent. We had to be cut throat and brutal to win. Thankfully, EQ's systems at the time let us. And the DRAMA was incredible.

A huge part of the reason I wanted to play the endgame was because of the server drama in chat and on the boards. Read it for months before leveling up enough to even join the top guilds.

There was a huge back and forth between all the top guilds for a long time. The flames on the server boards were almost as epic as the actual fights. Joining that realm felt like a badge of honor. And the battles raged for a weeks, months and even years for some guilds. The GM's tried to get involved by enforcing rotations, but they eventually gave up. Our server was really cut throat for a PvE server.

Over time, our guild won and passed everyone so far that there weren't any battles anymore. But that was after Luclin. Being the top guild on the server had it's own amusement value, trying to compete with the other servers and guilds like FoH for world firsts. But it was never as epic, nor as engaging, as fighting the guilds on our own server.

The ruleset can adapt on the fly. I'm talking more along the lines of something like "Fireball does 1040 damage to NPC, deals 25% of health to PC" etc...

If nothing else it's one of those things where you can balance once and then just leave the fuck alone or allow for slight balance changes here and there instead of WoW's sweeping changes every new raid tier because xyz ability becomes overfuckingpowered once you can 3-shot someone.

As far as BG's vs. World PvP that's a whole nother beast to tackle. World PvP typically boils down to just a massive grief fest whereas BG's/Arena's became a thinly disguised item++ grind. There are better ways to do both and I do firmly believe they can co-exist.

You have been very unfortunate to not have played UO. PvPing with the chances of being completely looted. There is nearly no gaming experience like it. I'm not saying we go back to that. Simply saying I wish every gamer experienced at least once. Looting and being looted after killing or being killed by another player. The biggest rush in gaming I've ever had to this day.

I wish some devs had the balls to try it. Never experienced that and wish I had. Every mmo gaming experience since EQ has been a letdown. A lowering of the bar, a reset to something less than what was before.

There have been improvements in the mmo sphere, but they have been at the cost of losing everything that mattered. Risk vs Reward doesn't exist anymore. It's all reward with no risk, and it all sucks the Big Kahuna.

I would do it for sure... and I admit sneaking around in eq2 with Plat when going to that vendor they had where u can get killed was pretty cool... hearing of someone getting whacked with 20 plat was amazing... i could only imagine what it would be like if they can take all your stuff..

That's because World PvP has no consequences.

Anyone know if there is a FAQ or something yet? All these tid bits of info from a million different tweets and 9 hour long boring SOE rambling fanfaire videos and whatever. Would be nice if just all the good stuff could be picked out and put in one easy to read web page.
