Tons of people like chasing the hunter achievements, firsts, and so forth. This would give it an actual reason beyond just people's natural need to collect things for their OCD. It'd make for some interesting guild competitions beyond the usual "rushing to gank spawns".

It checks a very important box too - it's something that Daybreak could actually do with a whole lot of the work already being in place

Way, way after PoP (the PoP that you erroneously think the game turns to dogshit after)
About what expansion does the game go from fun to a spreadsheet mongers wet dream? Maybe I'll play up to just before that expansion next time.. if I ever play again.

It's a long gradual process. Hard to say when it really flips to Live levels of busy. As of level 115 on Phinny, my 6-7 hotkey bars had basically become their own meta-keyboard in the game. I don't like it either. It takes a while to get that bad though.

I'll venture a guess, off old memory, that Level 85ish is probably when it starts to resemble live more than it resembles what came before. Somewhere in SoD/UF/HoT. The ability bloat starts a few expansions earlier but it isn't serious at all yet as of TSS. And Buried Sea, considering what a blip of an expansion it actually is, is the last expansion that really has that "exploration" feel that the old game had, IMO.

TLDR: It's a long slow process of change/decline but I think the first 85 levels of the game are mostly spot-on.

Game seems super bloated and unplayable if you try to go straight into live right now. If you go through the TLP process, you slowly acquire the AA, discs & spells. It makes it a lot easier to manage without getting overwhelmed. Once SoD rolls around, you get mercs and there are a decent amount of AA to manage. I could understand if you don't get the same enjoyment out of the game at that point, it is a bit of a different game by then.

This post over here is quietly the most productive "new ideas" post I've seen anywhere lately.

A scavenger hunt type achievement-based server would breathe new life into even a classic start TLP. Give it sensible unlock timers and free trade and we'd have something legitimately worth playing.

Tons of people like chasing the hunter achievements, firsts, and so forth. This would give it an actual reason beyond just people's natural need to collect things for their OCD. It'd make for some interesting guild competitions beyond the usual "rushing to gank spawns".
They'd have to balance the hunter achievements in original/kunark and a few other expansions. Some of them are absurdly rare spawns. Burynai Cutter and Scourgetail in Field of Bone ended my quest to get the hunter achievements in the old expansions.

Thanks for that. I might... MIGHT... might decide to give it one more go. Fuck me. Can't believe I am even thinking about it with as much as I hate DBG. Fucking addiction.

Some zones have tons of rares with no hunter achievement too, like Blackburrow ignores most of its named, same for Crushbone, East Karana, HHK etc.

Hunter achievements are cool as hell but could probably use a pass to just tighten them up and maybe add incentives.

SoF/SoD was the last point where it was pure fun. They started adding shit like cheevos and card games and bullshit like that afterwards. I did have a lot of fun with my Mischief guild for HoT. But even then there was a lot of bullshit in the game that I just didn't want to deal with anymore. Rep farming is pure ass in EQ and WOW.

I enjoyed Underfoot a lot. Thats where I stopped, but I heard some okay things about HoT.

If they release no truebox, free trade, and no level lockouts on gear I will probably start whenever they get to PoP and see if I can't ride it out until HoT or maybe take it all the way casual mode. BST/MAG combo is amazeballs for group content start to finish. And I have max personas on both my accounts, so I can be whatever seems fun.

Yeah all they'd have to do is ask the community to list the named that should be made optional for hunter. They don't need to try unwinding the named with weird PH cycles or separate the PHs from the non-PH mobs (Though that would be appreciated for mobs like Quillmane...), just need to make the worst ones optional and maybe boost some zones like Jaggedpine.

If they're going to do an achievement pass (which is much-needed IMO) I'd like to see them fill in the huge space between the early expansions and the later ones. They populated achievements through PoP for one of the TLPs (Agnarr, I think) and SoD+ have achievements because that's when they started being added. However, you have this gap from GoD through SoF where most of the achievements don't exist. There are a few, like major quests (BIC, Jonas Dagmire's Hand) and exploration, but we don't have much of anything for quests, missions, raids, etc in those eras. They added a bunch of tabs to the SoF tab with the intention of populating it next after SoD (and probably working backwards) but it just got dropped for whatever reason.

Dunedigger is insanely rare. A guy on Phinny spent literal days hanging out in that zone with one missing mob for Hunter achievement, and it just refused to spawn.

Something else I remember being ultrarare was Pyzjn in Qeynos Hills. Not THAT rare, but rare enough that I never actually saw it up. Back in '99 I heard about how it dropped an item that was basically BIS for the whole game and sold for a tidy profit, so I camped out to see if I could get it (I was like a level 15 Necro, BTW). Thing never spawned in all the time I spent watching out for it.

BST is the one class I'm not familiar with the inner workings of. What makes it+mage work so well? Does the BST play more of a tank role or more of a debuff/healer role?

Weird that I've never run BST, considering I like Monk and Shaman so much and it combines the two.
