Speaking of Deepground, I'm wondering what they're doing with Genesis since they added Nero/Weiss to FF7R Intergrade and obviously Crisis Core just got a remake with Genesis all over it.

I always figured Genesis would be the villain of a hypothetical FF7-2, but instead we're getting this odd Frankensteinian remake/sequel hybrid. Seems like there's very little room for Deepground in FF7R when they already have so much else to get to. And unless Sephiroth is gonna turn face and become a playable character (which at this point wouldn't surprise me) there isn't really much room for Genesis either. So I don't know

Think it'll depend how much of the main story they get through in Rebirth. Granted, I'm expecting some changes, but very likely the usual location spots all still get hit, just maybe some in a slightly different order than the OG. A lot of Disc 3 in the OG was for secrets/ultimate weapon gathering anyways, so if they get through a lot in Rebirth it'll likely leave room for more of that stuff in the 3rd game.

Then again, most people might be happy if Deepground is just mostly some VR super boss stuff.

Man I fell off this hard, I got to Aeris escort area and never booted it back up. Couldn’t shake the fact this isn’t the complete game and combat feels clunky no matter who I am playing as.
There’s no payoff. Seeing some stuff with good graphics was cool and helped it make more sense than the original did with its limited graphical capabilities. Climbing the plate was cool.

Combat sucked. Nearly every battle was dependent upon you lucking out that you had the right materia equipped, otherwise it was slow as fuck or you could reboot, load up with the right materia, then start the battle over. That was a terrible option so never did it. This died down a bit near the end when you actually had enough slots you could spread it out and equip more so that at least one person had the right thing equipped. Still clunky shit though. Curious if they let you start the 2nd game with your equipment from the first or if the lame whisper ghosts reset you.

You'll get reset, no way they would allow carrying shit over. At best it might be something like what Xenosaga did where you just got a bit of a head start but nothing big. So people who didn't play the prior game weren't at much of a disadvantage.

Agreed that combat was pretty lame. Some combination of kingdom hearts and final fantasy 15 shit. Also, hell house aside, once you learn that ability from the nail bat you could break everything with cloud.

The nail bat, you say? I don't even think I ever used it, unless learning all the weapon abilities was part of 100%. Thing didn't seem very Cloud-like (yeah, I know it's in the original too). Tell me more about how you can break everything?

Friend of mine was using the nail bat primarily in his game and he just kind of tapped out around Chapter 14 or so, don't think he even climbed to the tower. Said the fights were taking way too long (on Normal) and it burned him out. Maybe if he can break the game with his bat he'll actually pick it up and finish it.

Disorder is insanely broken. Or at least it was when I played it a few years ago.

You'll build up ATB as fast as you burn it, constantly switch stance, good stagger build up. Even helps with closing gaps. Sure you're not going to spam Weiss but just about every non super boss fight in the game you'll roll over without much thought.

I wonder how long it'll be after XVI release before they let out some more Rebirth news. Part 1 ended up with like 4 or 5 different trailers before actual release, didn't it?

Got a question for people who didn't like the story changes in FF7R. At what point did you realize the game wasn't what you expected or wanted?

For me it wasn't until the final chapter (18), when the game goes totally off the rails into la-la land. Though in Chapter 17 the Barret Death red herring and the too-early Jenova Battle Fanservice Outta Nowhere both made me roll my eyes.

If I didn't already know the game was only Midgar and thought it was a real / full remake, I think I would have started worrying around that interminable chapter with Air Buster parts.

Actually I might have gotten worried near the beginning when they were blowing their Sephiroth wad right outside the first reactor by having him show up and make Badass Anime Poses in an alleyway, followed a few minutes later by the first swarm of flying ghost condoms that nobody seemed to think anything of or speak of afterwards.

An hour in when the Saturday morning faggotry happened with Heidegger twirling his mustache, sabotaging the reactor and undermining the result of the bombing mission from the first game.

Stuck around because it was great to see the world itself brought up to modern visuals. Side quests were fucking stupid and I should have quit during the Wall market slog. Instead I stupidly witnessed the abomination combination of matrix revolutions and kingdom hearts at the end.

The problem is bad writers and bad storytelling, even in a game that you are remaking. Its incredible, how poor the lore has been in video games in general the last decade or so.
