I stupidly missed some cutscenes and context around the
Hydaelan Trial
....

Basically
does it just come down to Venat instigating everything we've gone through (the primals, Ascians, Garleans, etc in order to prep us to fight the robot bat bitch? Is that the genesis here of Zodiark and everything we've been through - it was to strengthen us for the final fight with the sentient robot?

I was hoping it was to give us the fortitude to join the robot and slaughter all the retarded moon rabbit people

I don't think she instigated anything. First off because she simply couldn't do all that much, over the years after the Ascians blew up worlds to get Zodiark whole again and shit, her power faded a ton as he got stronger. Second, her only plan for the Final Days from the start was escaping. That's why she made the rabbits to build the Ark to get the fuck out. She did observe people and granted some her blessing, partly to try to fight back against the Ascians that kept fucking up shit. She kept hope that MAYBE, big maybe, someone would arise that could indeed defeat Meteion, but that was just wishful thinking and she didn't really consciously prepare to do that, the initial plan was always to just run away if it came back.

We just happen to be really badass and all and so once it was clear that there was a chance not to leave the planet to die, then she decided to do that instead, if we could defeat her(and in the case we couldn't, it was still get the fuck off the planet plan A). But all the Ascian shit is them doing Ascian shit. She didn't make them blow up worlds and kill people and make the Garlean empire and whatever else these fuckheads came up with, but she was too busy keeping Zodiark inactive to do much about it directly.

I have been slow rolling so far. Doing MSQ and blue+ quests only on my RDM. Also doing daily msqlette. Already level 85, and just got my last MSQ for Garlemald. I think. It's last aether current quest, which is usually the last one in the zone. Once I hit 86 I am going to take a small DOL break to get at least 1 to 86 so I can continue just ignoring the zone while I MSQ. So far I have fought literally 0 mobs outside of the ones you spawn. Travel/escort? BTN. Get to objective? Back to RDM. Once RDM gets to 90 I will pause MSQ in order to get my PLD caught up via side quests and dailies.

Story so far has been pretty great. Not as epic as ShB, but Emet Selch set a particularly high bar there. Definitely some pretty dark stuff this time around, though.

Quintus, nooooooo! And they even leave the blood stain on the flag afterwards. Nice touch. Gruesome, but nice.

Yeah it's the same VA using a different tone. Also an awesome VA at that. Same one who did Kirito and Beetelgeuse (or however the hell you want to spell it, From Re:zero)

I just got all comfy to settle in and listen to his scenes and it is not the same guy at all :( I am disappoint.

Has anyone received their full (not early access) key yet? Thought we should have gotten an email with it by now.

e: NM, I'm a dumbass. Thought it'd be in the email, but have to login to the store and check order status there.

Some people got a notification, but even if you haven't, the keys are supposed to be there anyway.

No I think it was a multifaceted plan with plan A being to allow an imprisoned Zodiark to be the ozone layer against negatively charged Dynamis and sunder people into 14 so they are too weak to perfect or destroy the world and cause one of the fates Meteion saw on other worlds. Of course these weaker people are not powerful enough to overcome their problems and create endless conflict (which is why Emet-Selch hates out existence in Shadowbringers).

Plan B was to kill Zodiark to prevent the Ascians sacrificing and enslaving everyone to their dark god, evacuate everyone to the moon and run away from Meteion.

Plan C was that a Warrior of Light strong enough to defeat Meteion would emerge, with Venat being the sort of person to direcrly test them in battle as we saw in Elpis. The sundering also had the effect of allowing us to interact with Dynamis.

Not sure what scene you were watching then.

There was a point where he breaks down and goes full batshit and it was 100% him. I damn near expected him to say his brain trembled it was so convincing. I think it was in the tower as he was trying to activate it and getting frustrated.

Alright done with that stuff, was surprisingly fast and cheap, only spent like a million on mats, I guess part of it is how easier it is to gather large amount of mats and how much more xp you get out of leves it feels like. 3leves self crafted is usually a level up, plus the external xp(2+ lvls from custom deliveries, 50-80% of a lvl per GC daily, ~60% of a level per sharlayan delivery role quest thing).

Yeah they dumbed it down even more so this expansion. I'm not quite done MSQ, so haven't gone full bore into crafting, although got Blacksmith to 90 just for melding purposes. But I was literally leveling off quick synth craft exp in the lower 80's. Between easy leves, collectibles, and the Studium deliveries going to be a joke. Miner/Botanist to 90 pretty much solely off the 81 collectible nodes you can get super early on. Pretty amusing.

Is there a new Custom Delivery person you unlock from EW? Or just the old ones for now?

I watched one of the scenes in 5.4 Shadowbringers when he was doing the crazy talk. Wasn't him, and the credits list Asahi's voice actor as someone else.

Fandaniel lists him though. Actually lists two different voice actors. I wonder what is going on.

No new custom for now, in ShB it was 5.1 so I'd expect the same. I have a bunch of deliveries to make with the last 2 NPCs to fully cap them(150 achievement thing) so I'm not in a hurry, plus there's very little to do with scrips for now.

And yeah quicksynthing your way to 90 is definitely very possible, although it rapes your gear super fast. Using 81-82 quick synth stuff, you get 60k xp per synth assuming you have 20% crafting xp(squad buff, or FC buff for 15%) and pop crafting xp manuals as you go("only" give 75% more xp but that's still massive). You need like 50m xp or something so it still takes a little while but it's not that bad, I finished some of the crafts with quick synths cause I couldn't be bothered getting the materials for leves, the 86 ones are like 100k xp per.

The Fandaniel voice and attitude change confused me too.

I think Tarisk is right, when Fandaniel breaks down in the Tower of Zot and reveals that he was Amon, this is when he changes from the jovial Amon-Fandaniel (maybe using the Asahi voice actor) to the depressed Hermes-Fandaniel (maybe using the Hermes voice actor).

I don't actually know if the voice actor changes but he sounds and acts different. In the next scene he has a depressed hateful attitude towards Zenos and mocks him when before he was a 100% happy and polite slavish minion (if disingenuous).

Are there not custom deliveries in the Phenomenon in Sharlayan? Or are they just the job quests and you can't repeat them?

That's just the role quests stuff, non repeatable, same as Crystarium deliveries. Also gives pretty shitty xp overall, still worth doing since it's easy and relatively cheap though but yeah that's not customs.

Well done on the spoilers guys! Slow-ass level 85 on the EU molasses server appreciates your efforts.

One question, do you think the dungeons are unlocked a little too late in the MSQ? I mean, I managed to unlock the 81 dungeon at around 83 and I just dinged 85 last night and still have to unlock the 83 one. By the time I've run it a few times any gear drops have already been invalidated by the quest gear.

Might be as a result of me doing every sidequest rather than just blasting through the MSQ.
