In general I try to succor before every big hit so my other healer doesn't have to struggle. Perhaps that's where we differ. I generally hover around 50 percent Mana unless I have to Rez.

so i dunno how many ffxi nuts are in here, but having spent the better part of 2years of my life in that game, im noticing some distinct overlap in several soundtracks. probably intentional. like the eulmore music (post lvl 77 story quests) is a take on jeuno music. and kholusia is a variant off sanctuary of zitah (best zone music ever)

I'm not far into SB yet but i assume that's intentional? even when you first arrive there they start listing off some FF11 versions of race names and what not

If you're a FFXI nut then SURELY you've seen the mobs they took from that game as a nice throwback.

Lizards, damselflies, etc.

In ShB, there is a mob called ancient lizard which is an updated texture model of those 2 legged lizard mobs from FFXI

Some flavor text do that here and there. The flavor text for the windup mithra pet says the mithra are regarded as the ancient ancestors of the miqote.

Tons of callbacks to FF tactica and FF12 in the Ivalice raids too obviously.

Just did my first dungeon. I told the party I was new and sorry if I get my rotation off, they said I did better than 99.9999% of the people they have played with including their own guild and then said thanks for making sure no adds popped with the bubble of evil mechanic. Nice folks :) Also, good first dungeon. I liked the mechanics for the last boss fight and interacting with the dungeon itself to prevent adds. One got loose, but it wasn't on me :)

And holy cats does one level fast in there. I can see why people just do dungeons.

Also, played on my PC on the same character as my PS4. It's awesome to switch it up and go back and forth. I doubt I will want to pay for two expansion sets to get the entitlement on both systems. It would be nice if they just made it cross play across PC and PS4 via one license to run both. But still, a cool feature none the less.

Sitting on a crafter specialist set at 2245 / 2224 / 540 atm, no VIII overmelds at all and bare minimum in tools/chest until we see what requirements are for 1-star.

100% do the alc syrup for crafter yellow scrips, you literally print materia for basic gathering mats and retainer/fate gems.

Almost every mob is a take on ffxi mob models . To the point where I’m sure some of the code was just reused. I mean they aren’t trying to be sneaky about it - the ‘weapons’ are also weapons in romaeve in ffxi (remember farming there forever). It works great for them. Save time coding and also hit nerds like me in the nostalgia feels

It's not really every mob. It's a lot for sure, but a lot are originals. But yeah they reuse a lot of FFXI mob models, saves costs I guess and it's new enough for most people, while being a nice callback for others.

Also the race names on the First aren't only FFXI names. Some are reference, but they're not the exact names(other than Humes). Mythra becomes Mystel, Elvaans become Elves, Galkas become Galdjent, Au Ra didn't exist and Tarutaru are Dwarves so these aren't even in the same ballpark(although I haven't done dwarves sidequests to see if they have a name they give themselves that's closer or what). So they're still variations, just like the original names are.

There's a lot of XI references overall, skill names(and animations sometimes), items, monsters, places and so on. One of the better ones imo is that one of the greatest master of Black Magic you learn about in the BLM job quests was named Shatotto and is, as expected, a Lalafel.

Pyros Pyros : No to the dwarves having their own names. The most they really talk about with respect to the dwarves is THOU SHALT BEARD and that revealing your true face to the world is by and large taboo.

Yeah k didn't know if they did some quest where they talk about their "ancestors" and how they wore no masks and were called Tarutarus or whatever. I should probably do some sidequests at a point but currently DPS queues are kinda fast so I rarely get to do much, so I'd rather do one or two FATEs to progress the rank 3 shit than pick up 5sidequests but then do 2 inbetween dungeons. Since I don't think I'll be lvling all classes to 80 until the next time I resub, I'll probably do them then. Love that they all have lvl sync so I can just do them all without worry of wasting xp.

So, got my FSH to 80 the past couple days. Only did 2 leves total to finish up 80 because I had been using the fishing hole for the triple turnin anyways. First 6 levels I just hit the 71 collectable hole and started using the new manuals. Mind you I don't do poopsock sessions anymore, so this was just a couple hours each day. The new manuals are good for 16-17M of catches, just crazy good.I'm thinking of starting trades. just see how far I can get without leves before I get sick of it. All leves will be going to MIN until that is 80 too. Won't take too long. Only reason I am poking at trades is to get all 5 facets done in Crystarium, and because I am mostly insane already.

ShB story is great. So very very good. Khorum is right that it could have easily been a top tier game all by itself. The sheer volume of lore they wove in, and tied up old hanging threads was very satisfying. Emet did nothing wrong!

For avoiding leves, you can spam collectable Iota for ALC all the way to 80, though swap for syrup at 77 if you get that. CUL can spam Grilled Rail or Purple Carrot Juice to 80, too. For GSM, there's a ring for level 71--Ilsewolf something or other--that you can crank out a few levels with, though iirc the exp isn't as good as ALC/CUL. There's a level 75 recipe for GSM that uses the same mats as the recommended leve for that level, so that's a possibility if it's up. I want to say ARM has something like the alembic, mat-wise, that looked decent. The alembic leve is really good though. So is BSM's Bluespirit Scythe. The rest are pretty hit or miss, depending on what's starred, and nothing stands out to me off hand as being kind about mats. Use leves for WVR, and have four million lightning crystals handy. It's horrible. The facet exp is nuts, though. Use that for WVR, too, especially for skipping the Ovim range of crap.
