I'm thinking the would-be raiders should at least try to get a crafting class up in tandem with their main job. Main thought there as to why is mid-raid repairs.

Agree, however, one thing i noticed beta was that it seemed like to be able to repair effectively would have required three or rmore skills. This was for archer.

I have no idea if there is a way to share the repair responsibility among the specialists that are part of our raid.

Yeah it seems like even as a cloth class (CNJ) some of my gear was requiring leatherworking and even carpentry at times, instead of all weaving, for repairs. Wands and such were goldsmith or alchemy i think? Anyway it seems like to repair a full set of broken gear you're going to require a good number of crafting classes at a high enough level. If people have enough time in phase 4 after leveling their main class + sub jobs, it definitely won't be a bad idea to get started on whatever gathering and crafting you plan on doing as well. Repairs were running kind of expensive for a full set of 30+ gear (I think around 1000 gil total).

I think I remember repairs being a static price regardless of the damage to the item? Like a 1% durability repair vs a completely broken item costs the same amount? I might be wrong but I vaguely remember that being discussed. If that is the case, avoid the easy repair all and take a few seconds to see which pieces are actually low on durability and do them individually to save money.

That was a bug, and they claim it's been fixed.

Re: crafting, I tried Weaving in beta and have zero interest in doing a crafting skill at all based on that experience. I'm just going to do Botany and give the shit to whoever needs it.

Edit: Also, another vote here for keeping the ISIS name.

The only way that won't be true, is if this game is WOW 2.0. Its not, and those servers will be dead in a month.

Good choice going with Gilgamesh - in fact, its the only choice if you have any interest in playing longer than 4 weeks.
I'm not so sure about this, If you had suggested it a year ago, maybe... but I made a facebook post about buying FFXIV and I was pretty floored at the level of response I got. I don't think it's going to be WoW 2.0, but I think this game is going to be at Least as popular as SWTOR initially, which had a pretty good 6 month run, and I "do" have more faith in this game long term than I did in swtor (after about 2 months of playing when it became clear they weren't going to be able to deliver on their content delivery promises)

So question since I am unclear. I was in P3 Beta. Beta finished, should I have received a new code for P4? Or does it just carry over by default.

I was in P2 but stopped receiving all beta emails after that, still able to play in P3 so I assume P4 will work the same.

IIRC the only beta email I've received lately was that accidental japanese one

I'm still on the fence about Weaving or not. During beta it has seemed like there are a few people fairly hardcore in to it that may cover our needs. Gathering professions though I'll probably end up doing. Something you can do while out in the field and help keep crystals or HQ mats coming in shouldn't be too bad. Although those nodes have 4 - 5 different options. I'll probably collect 10,000 Rock of Ominous Glow and crafters will really only need Rock of Dubious Glow.

I have no doubt that people will level their crafting, myself included, but given the initial level 20 cap I don't see many doing it as the primary.

Is this worth $20? I am debating a whole lot...
Easily worth 20 bucks... you can't even take a date to the movies for 20 bucks.

But since this is a MMORPG forum, we know that getting a date isn't a realistic option anyways, so you might as well try FFXIV.

I'd be interested in doing crafting but not sure what my play time will be like, plus it seems rational that you're going to need an adventuring main class leveled in order to gather some of the materials since so much of the crafting is dependent on each other, no?

Why bother with crafting at all if all the crafting gear is worse than drops? Seems like a waste of effort. Just so you can repair your own gear? There is no point in doing that unless every single person in the raid is also capable, which is unlikely at best. I understand people like crafting intrinsically, but as deep as the crafting system is in this game it seems like a wasted effort with no payoff. Who are you making this gear for if all of it is worse then dropped loot?

They haven't said that though, it keeps being re-iterated that crafted gear IS good and will be on par later on. In version 1.0 crafting was the whole backbone of the game
