I didn't pay for early access btw.
I had applied for beta access some time ago and got an invite to try the new client on steam.

Really liking the game again, since they've worked pretty hard on the mission system and a few more PvE systems. The major difference is that the game has shifted to a level based system, as opposed to the original xp-as-skills. So you've now got horizontal progress, plus a deeper vertical progression with gear. Resource collection and crafting has had a very big overhaul and it seems a lot more simple. This might be a bad thing, as the crafting/resource system was primitive but noteworthy further back in beta. If you want to team up and do some shit, friend me in game. I *think* my squad mates still get my +xp modifier as it use too.

I should add, that if you have problems running the game, talking in chat, adding friends or the like: start the game outside of steam using the firefallclient.exe and try then, I was able to log in with my very old account and could then log in via steam after it had done it once.

Spent more time with Firefall and I have to say that I am very impressed.
I will be recommending this to everyone that is in to shooters and also likes MMO's.

edit:
Strangely I am not suffering from the eye strain I normally get from shooters... Not sure why, but its nice.

It's probably the field of view, that's what causes most of the eye/nausea problems with FPS games.

Really strange compensation for xp and character levels.

All of my gear is level 40 while my characters are level 11, tops.

I guess that means I was way overgeared? Whatever.

If your gear is level 40, you need to cycle through all your frames in the garage, and you'll probably level up. I had frames at random levels, and after cycling them, I had most of them above level 5.

I had so much damned fun last night I went and bought the 440 Red Bean bundle... Well worth the $50 IMO.
I see this game having a bright future. Assuming it doesn't make any big mistakes.

So is this game just another Planetside?
Its kind of as if Guild Wars II, and Borderlands II, had offspring.
Lots of dynamic questing, lots of twitch shooting, and reasonable dialogue.
Note: This is nothing close to as deep as Guild Wars II. But what I remember of its world quests (not its primary quests), I see in Firefall.

edit:
If you try it out, and you like the Engineer... Pay the money and get the Bastion Advanced Engineer Battleframe. You won't regret it.
Actually, maybe it would be more apt to say Rift and Borderlands II. Not Guild Wars.

I just found this gun on my Bastion... Wow. (Next to a comparable normal quality gun)
Shame I'm gonna out level it so soon.

I am having a blast with this game...

Going to low level zones and group thumping seems to have a good chance of triggering a mass invasion of the chosen... Fun shit.
I think its tied to the ore deposit. I found a 100% area, and dropped about half a dozen thumpers, and 5 of them triggered invasion. I was Lv15 in a Lvl 9 Area.

Also, my first tornado... Sucks you into what appears to be a timed instance.
(edit: I have graphics turned almost all the way low, as I am running 2560x1440, on a single RADEON)

I got to play for about 30 mins today before I came to work, it seemed fun. Now, do you get to pick weapons of your choosing? I went Assault and I'm not digging the 5 shot bomb/flak cannon thing.

Weapons are very much specific to the battleframe. I'm running primarily Recon right now, but not any of the specialized ones yet. I'm enjoying it, but it is kind of repetitive on what you're doing, and there's TONS of bugs that need to be fixed. It'll be something I'll play from time to time, but I'm not sure I'll go too crazy with it.

Thumping with Sabbat tonight made me realize the limitations of the Engineer class... Also, how little incentive there is to Iron Thump in equal or greater level areas. Its super easy to get overwhelmed, and Engineer turrets get butchered quick, without any mobility. Seems they are mostly a solo class.

Also, the rarity of some crafting materials is insane. It forces you to use the market to get anything but simple crafting done with any regularity.

I've had very few bugs Elidroth, besides the whole steam thing, and the occasional drop out of the market place. I did have a mission last night that fucked out when trying to kill some dude and had to restart it. Escort missions are absolutely shit, they really, really need to work on that pronto or just remove them for the time being.

The instance type missions are some serious fun.

The first Thump I did with Grimsark I planted a Personal Thumper I, designed for 1-2 players, and it was a cake walk. Engineers do extremely well as point defenders, so long as they use the ammo/healing station (lol grim) they do pretty well. The Adv. Engi frame "Bastion" is an excellent defender. The second one I put down was the Squad Thumper I, designed for 4-5 players. Shit got scary fast and we got into some serious trouble. I think if we'd had a ammo/health station down from the Engineer, we'd have managed to finish that Thump (got it to 85%). Pretty sure that Grim had never seen a proper Squad Thumper and was caught off guard.

Night time and day time can make things much more interesting as well.

So far, Iron and Tungsten have the same refine rate from ore to crystite, so there really is no difference in Thumping low level zones for materials. The difference is in the xp generated, if the area is too low, you get no xp for the Thump at all. I've still yet to check if you get mob materials and salvage from grey cons.

I main the "Firecat" assault frame, which is primarily an AoE skirmisher, excellent at clearing waves of mobs with precise shots. The Tigerclaw has less AoE splash, but a higher damage mod on a direct hit. It's also even faster and can stay airbourne longer.

I kept going out of ammo and you were bouncing around picking up all the health so I kinda screwed myself.

Also, I was 17/18, and using an under powered Primary and very under powered secondary (I couldn't kill anything when my ammo was gone). While you and the critters were 20. The Supply Station would have definitely helped though. Already changed up that ability.

I have been wondering what class I wanted to try next, and I still can't make up my mind.

19 now.

Determined that group thumping in areas that are green at their max level to me is most fun. (Watch for the incursions @ roughly 50% chance, anecdotally speaking)

Green (Researched Tier I) Personal Thumping in that same area is also good. You get about 8-9K exp and good drops. (Finished up the last half of 17 doing this)
Grey enemies still drop loot, just not as much, and 1exp. 2exp if you have an active bonus.

Edit:
I think that thump farming green enemies is actually on part for half the quests I did... You don't have to run around so travel is nill, and the loot is better/easier as all the enemies are way under level. I wouldn't be surprised if they scale back the rewards for non-group thumping in lowbie areas.
